"Your pet is now kind."

This is such a well executed take on the theme, using the same concept as so many other games in the jam only better in every area.

I didn't feel like I had to optimize my pet towards a goal or style, I felt free to pick whatever I imagined my pet to be like, especially with the brilliant personality/action questions. This really felt like evolution, gradual adaptation over time, compared to many other games where it's just a linear power progression with unlocks (like practically every game ever).

So when, after making a bunch of choices and focusing on eating carrots and apples, I get the confirmation: "Your pet is now kind." My heart got all warm. Such a great experience.

Did you make the art yourself? The level of quality is ridiculous for such a short period of time, so for your sake I really hope you didn't work that hard over the last 10 days :D

If I'm to suggest anything  for a full release, it's to really focus on the "home" area. Make the pet move around and do stuff, and have the different actions you can do be implemented in the scenery instead of "popup panels". Implement more of the "tamagochi" things, I guess, so the player can stop what they're doing and enjoy watching their pet.

Developer

Ah no, I didn't made "most" of the art myself. The UI were from "kenney rpg UI pack" and the monster sprites were from "calciumtrice" but a few edits to make elemental evolutions look better. The BG and Music were royalty free, I just played around with the BG to have it fit better into the theme.

And ty for your comments :)

Seriously, it was really good and enjoyable. I edited my comment with a suggestion for what to focus on for a full release (if you want to continue working on). It's nice with the story and multiple endings as a cherry on top, having all your choices feel like they matter.

I love the charming story and the variety of options! I'm a big fan of letting the player's choices influence the outcome. It was fun raising my elemental slime!

There were some places were the text was harder to read, so maybe an opaque grey background would help.

Developer

I should have changed at least the font colors depending on the background, didn't think about the visibility while rushing for the deadline :D

Oooh, that was really good, I got endings 2 and 5.

Really well done and polished game!

What a game,

The art, the music, the UI, the story.

It's just perfect, I loved it

Developer

Thank you so much! :D

This game was great! The art and animation was so cute and well done. The music fit perfectly. This is one of the top games in this Jam! Everything pulled together and felt complete. Made me want to eat cheese and get a pet.

This game is sooo good! It is unbelievable that you made it in a couple of days. This is something I would have payed to play. It is fun and after the end I just wanted to play again to see the other endings as well and see how the little slim monster can evolve. I ended up playing like 5 times in a row and managed to see 3 different endings. Will continue tomorrow to find the other two endings as well. Well done! (Gf of another contestant here, he showed me some of the games and I made an account just to write this comment.)

Developer

Thank you for your kind words, I have two more endings in mind that I want to add after the jam.

Sounds good, I am looking forward to it! :) I am still trying to find ending 1 and 3, but I had no luck so far. I will keep trying tho :D

Finally I managed to get ending 3 as well! ^^

Nice project! I liked the mix of pet simulator with visual novel, it really makes you attached to your pet, the music also really fits with the style, and the art is cute and smooth. The text has a good font, but it would be better to read if had some drop shadow or stroke on it. The evolution aspect of it could have a little more weight on the gameplay, but was fun to test out different skills with the slime. If you decide to keep working on that project i would love to see the endings with different routes and interactions. I would pay for play a final version. You have a good idea in hands!

I tried to avoid using too many shadows in fonts thinking it was clear enough to read but maybe I was mistaken. Ty for your kind comments :)

I loved this game. Its great how different actions result in different changes in your pet and how you can push it in the direction you want. The music and art is also great. Did you create these images during this jam?

Developer(+1)

The sprites are mainly from Calciumtrice & Kenney, but I modded the slime sprite to modulate better with elements. This was a solo project while working a full-time job so I had to use royalty free assets to cover it in time.

Very relaxing experience, with great audio design, and polished gameplay.

Congrats!

Nice mix between turn based combat and pet simulation

I really liked the little story bits and situations where depending on your choices it influences the evolution of the little slime, i played without the food hints so i'm not sure what determined what he liked or not untill i tried a bunch of different items, the evolution is fun though and it seems like there's quite a bit of possibilities.

Overall nice and chill experience, had fun taking care of the slime pet and fighting the occasional forest monster here and there.

Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Originally the game didn't have a food hint system, I added it at the last day after a few playtester friends explained about their confusion. I decided to make it optional because many were enjoying the hintless food guessing game as well :)

Really loved this! Very well made, good combat system and story, and a really comforting vibe. Well done!

Thank you so much. I am happy with the outcome and I have a few more endings and plenty of more event to add after the jam

Very good! Perhaps my favorite of the jam so far.
Your story is very cute and even a little touching.
You really can't help but get attached to your little slime monster.
Music and visuals are great, the mechanics are well thought out, the gameplay loop is satisfying, it's a fun experience!

Happy to hear you liked the game so much :D

Tough to believe it was a game jam game, it was so well put together! I grew up on monster rancher and this definitely had that energy. Thanks for letting us play it!

Very cute art, would have been nice to see the pet evolve visually as the game progressed

Developer

I planned to do it actually but I couldn't manage to make good variations that would still stay in the same artstyle. Ty for the comment :)
