All the art/music/sound effects are great. I've always liked the aesthetic of low color-count games, especially ones like this that still manage to keep everything important on screen clear and distinct. The idea of traversing each level once, then stomping back through it in your mech destroying everything is a really fun one too.
I do think the game is a bit unclear on what exactly to do in the beginning (Although I appreciate how all the information is conveyed in a way that makes sense in the context of the game, cool touch). I ended up walking to the end of the level, where I thought I was stuck until I wandered back to the ship and my character repaired it. Maybe having the first level be extremely small, like one room, and forcing the player to go through a full loop of gathering resources, fixing the ship, and leaving all at once would help with this initial confusion. Or maybe force the player to do a small bit of repairs before they can continue on.
Overall, great job!
Good call! I like that idea a lot. If we continue it, will add that for sure.
Real fun, had to download the Windows version since firefox had some problems, I'm glad i did. It's fun, it's Macgyver ;), it's retro, great palette. Wanted to complete the game after seeing it on stream. Nicely done. 5 Macgyver out of 5 Macgyver from me, Selma and Patty from the Simpsons would be proud.
Hahaha, fantastic reference - and a rarer one these days, since it's so old! :P Thank you so much for the kind words!
Very polished. Nice game.
Thanks! We had fun building it.
The sprite art is so slick, nice use of the colour wildcard! Game play is sweet and intuitive, great job!
Thank you so much!
I love the art and music, very well made game.
Thanks!
The game's art style is pretty amazing, and i enjoyed playing the game! Nice one!
Thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words!
Downloaded Chrome for this since Firefox version still gives the same error on console. This is very nice and feels "full". Little bit obsessed with the graphics. Also music slaps!
Thank you! That's weird, I definitely turned off the shared buffer array support for that. I did see this: https://candordev.itch.io/foxfix, which is supposed to fix Firefox, but I don't endorse it or know anything about it, since I can't use FF.
nice entry! the music and art was killer. it even sounded great on my laptop speakers. it took me a minute to understand what to do, but when it clicked it was interesting going back and forth gathering materials for the mech! good job making walking with the mech feel powerful and cool.
Thank you so much! Sounded great on your laptop speakers!? That's got to be some kind of world record!
The graphics are really cool. So many details and that with 4 colors. I am no 2d expert but this looks well made to me and surely took some time to make. Pretty nice! I also enjoyed the animations they were pretty nice as well. The music and the ambient you made gave me good feeling. Good Job!
Thanks! Yeah, our artist was working overtime on this!
Really cool vibe to the game! The team should be proud :D
Your sprite work is sick. Love the vfx when the enemy robots explode, so smooth and satisfying.
Very cool game, I liked the style of the art, and the animations of the characters!
I had the same problem with it not running on Firefox, in a perpetutal loading state. Worked fine in Chrome though!
Sorry about that! I determined that it gives me the infinite loading in Chrome if I don't have that box checked. I think in the future, I'll probably upload two projects, one with the value set and one without, submit one of them and reference the other in the description.
Also, thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad you liked it!
This is my favorite game from this jam! Very high quality, very fun and I had a blast playing it!
Thanks, that means a ton!
This game's aesthetics are *chef's kiss*: one of my favorite submissions for this jam!
This game is really really fun!
Thank you so much!
OVERFLOWING with style!! I wasn't sure what to do after running out of ammo, but even just walking around felt great lmao. Loved being the mech too. Amazing work ya'll, hope you're feeling stoked about such a job well done 😎
Thanks, yes we are! There's a signpost tutorial you can read to learn how to refill your ammo. 😁
Man the song and the walk cycle are whole vibe. Great pixel art as well.
So far this is my favorite comment I've ever received on any game! 😁 Thank you so much!
Amazing artwork, the use of the 4 color palette did wonders for the aesthetic. The mech destroying all the enemies after you finish build it up is really rewarding too.
I only had some problems with the melee enemy attack, where it didn’t seem really clear to me, but not a huge issue!
Thanks so much! And yes, the mech trouncing enemies like that was a big part of what we wanted: hard to get to, but extremely rewarding.
Hey! Just a heads up, I think that you've got `SharedArrayBuffer` setting turned on in Itch. It's preventing me from running the game in Firefox.
Interesting! I do have it on because in the past, my games wouldn't run without it. I'm not sure if that's still the case, I just did it by default. Will test for future reference.
I went ahead and made a Firefox version! Please check it out. https://wolfgangsenff.itch.io/mech-gyvr-firefox-edition
such a well made game, loved the music and sound effects
Your art was *chef's kiss,* and picking up all of the little items was fun. I didn't enjoy the overall gameplay very much (although I should not be one to talk), but this was overall a really polished experience.
Thanks for your feedback! What do you think we could have improved re: the gameplay? Or was it more of a genre mismatch with what you generally prefer?
I don't know that anything was inherently wrong with the gameplay, but I think one element that could have really spiced it up is a more detailed landscape. Things like traps, flora (or some empty bits of architecture), and pits would make shooting and collecting parts more engaging. Overall, it was a pretty good game, though, and it is definitely partially genre mismatch.
Okay, thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer!
