Game Description
Freelancing is a Narrative Adventure game where you take up the role of a new Squire, aiming for Knighthood! Dress the Knight in various unique outfits, whilst measuring the impact each item has on your core stats: Magic, Strength, Temperature and Weight. Each quest will have different requirements as prescribed in your briefing, so listen closely and balance your gear accordingly. On return you'll be rewarded (or scolded) for the Knights level of success, and each successful quest will put you one step closer to paying for Knight School!

How does your game tie into the theme?
Help the Squire assemble the Knights armour by dragging and dropping various equipment for them to use out on their adventures.

This is cute! The art style is well done and really stands out among the other games in the jam (Which I think is evident by just how many people have rated this one lol). I like the idea of having to listen to the quest-giver to figure out what conditions you'll need to prepare for, it's pretty clever and creative.

Although it doesn't seem terribly clear how the different item stats relate to the quest info. Like temperature makes sense, but I'm not sure how things like magic and weight relate to key info like "dark", "steep cliffs", "scary", etc. Not sure what the best solution to that would be though, maybe giving the items set of keywords rather than stats would help (like "Warm", "Heavy", "Protective", etc)?

Overall, great job!

Developer

Thank you a lot for your feedback! Really appreciate your comment and happy to hear you had fun with the game. :) We'll look more into ways to improve mechanics, stats and UI etc. Hope you have a great day!

great job! the visuals were very cohesive. it gave me fallout shelter explorer vibes! it would be cool to see this expanded with more levels. some kind of leveling system for knights with certain skills would be cool too! awesome work for a one week jam.

Developer

haha thank you a lot!! We appreciate it <3

I'm really floored by how fresh this idea is combined with how well it's executed. I really love the idea of games where you don't play as the hero, and this does a great job with that concept with such a fun sense of humor. I did get three stars, but couldn't help but try again and put the knight in the most useless getup I could think of just to see what would happen, and it really made me laugh. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for your kind feedback, we appreciate it A LOT! <3

Absolutely, out-of-the-box, unbelievable, and hilarious take on the theme! Well done! So many great things about this. The art is breathtaking and integrated the limited palette very well! The music matched the setting wonderfully! Very well-written dialogue as well!

Looking forward to seeing more of the story. Thanks for creating this wonderfully cute submission!

Thank you a ton for your lovely words, it really means a lot! Hope you have a wonderful day :)

Absolutle vibe, love it

Wow! Beautiful visuals! The writing was fun and entertaining. The twist of what the armor consisted was really funny! The palette limitations worked really well.

My only complain is that I would like a way to see the current stats! and also a way to replay the game without reloading the page, but these are minor details that don't really detract that much from the experience!

Developer

Thank you a lot for your feedback, it's appreciated! So glad you enjoyed it :)

Definitely one of my favorite games in the jam. Beautiful art, well crafted, and everything just clicks together so nicely. Fantastic job the both of you! Really hope you develop the game further, or at least keep working together to make more games.

Beautiful game. I waited to play it as I knew this would be good. Music, art and gameplay fit together so well. A well-crafted experience that deserves praise. Amazing work, you two!

Really cool game with a lot of potential!

What on earth did you make the art in!? I love it! One thing I'll say is for anyone with red-green colorblindness, this would be an extremely challenging game, because, from my understanding, red generally turns into gray. But all-in-all, you need to finish and publish this. We need to get you a publisher for it - I guarantee this would sell!

Developer(+1)

omg thank you so much! You're right, accessibility options with colour switching would be a great shout :)

The artist (@Kassipi) hand drew all the art in Procreate throughout the week and her hand is taking a rest now haha!

We'd love to do more on this :) so we'll rest up and think some more, but thankyou for your kind words!

Ha, that makes sense! It looks like creating all this art would definitely have taken time and real wrist-strength! That's what makes it so impressive, though. The game, too, must have taken a lot of work. It's awesome, and well-done!

What can I say.
It's all being said )
The art and style is top-notch.

Idea is interesting and original.

Developer

Thank you so much! It's really appreciated!

Stunning visually as others have mentioned! The art style and characters really gives this game a level of polish I didn't expect to see in a game jam!! Something I really liked was the dialogue box/stat pop up designs and how the text is visualized / emphasized to communicate key information to remember!! The custom cursor and eyes that followed it were great additions. Everything worked perfectly with no bugs or issues that I personally experienced.

What a fantastic entry in the jam! Great job :D
