Great entry ! It feels like you took the theme more as "gadgets", but it's executed really well !
I had a lot of fun trying to beat every section, and failing jumps didn't punish you too much, so it was fun to keep trying (it took me a while to understand that I could just climb from wall section to wall section, if the hands were touching it. I kept trying to go as high as possible, fall over to the next wall, and reactivate the hands by pressing E, but it was hard to pull of consistently because of the fall momentum that would pull you down 2/3 of the time haha). Once I understood the climbing better, it was less frustrating, and really enjoyable to play !
The SFX and Art go well together and are nicely polished. ( I just noticed his hand in the background would change color in the Idle animation, you probably just forgot to fill his glove in one frame ).
Another thing that felt off sometimes are the hitboxes with the pipes (it actually helped me with some jumps, since you can almost make it, stand on the side of the pipe, and make a small jump to get on it haha)
Overall a great entry, had a lot of fun playing it (why I noticed the little "bugs" :) ), and looking forward to your next one !
I’m getting nostalgia from a certain 1990s cartoon inspector here :-D
OH MY GOD I LITERALLY DIDNT EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT WHAT THAT IS SUCH A GOOD REFERENCE HAHAHAHHAHAH
Thanks for the submission! This game was really fun, especially for a rage kind of game. You did a really good job of making the setbacks bad, but not morale crushingly bad. I fell in that one section with the multiple walls so many times, but it was nice not to fall all the way back to the start. The art was also good and was all cohesive.
The music loop was a little short for my taste (although good the first few times through). If you have more time, probably padding it out a little bit would help. Also, it took a while to swap between gadgets (which I think played some important roles in ensuring the level couldn't be cheesed), but when I kept having to reset it did take a small bit of a toll on me.
Good use of the gadget wildcard (I didn't really see that many others use that one) and overall great submission.
Thank you so much for the nice comment <3 glad that it was a good balance of how punishing the setbacks were.
The music loop was something I added the last two hours before the deadline, so I definitely agree that it was a bit short, and maybe a bit too annoying for being that length. Music is definitely something I will focus more on next time :)
As you said, the time of switching between gadgets was made to not cheese the levels, but I hope that in the future I will be able to design the levels in regards to the tools and not vice versa.
Nice game, like turning a platformer into blacksmith with gadgets. Beat it in 7 minutes, difficulty was tough but not too tough, not quite rage quitting level :)
Overall great submission especially for just being your 2nd.
Looking forward to seeing your 3rd.
Thank you so much :) and yeah, trying to make it difficult but not ragequitting difficult is a hard line to balance hahah
A tough but fun game! Pretty much the same as other comments, although I would add I think it'd be great to have something that makes it a bit more obvious that you are currently climbing (rather than just noticing you're not falling).
glad that you thought the game was fun <3
I implemented some animations and sound ex to show that you are currently climbing, but maybe that wasn't clear enough and I should have an icon or maybe the character show in some way that you are climbing... Definitely something to think about :)
Difficult but a fun play! I agree with some of the other comments I read that are saying the gadget switching could be a bit faster. I also would say that the climbing gadget was a bit difficult to activate when jumping from one climbing wall to another. Great entry!
thank you for thinking it was difficult hahaha. I think the activation of the climbing gadget could be easily fixed by just having different controls, so not everything is on one hand. Having to move right with d and simultaneously change the climb gadget with 3 with basically the same finger is way too much effort. Thx for the feedback <3
Very fun, got 5:10 on my first run and 1:29 on my second one! Reminds me of Getting Over It with how vertical the map is and you definitely captured the same feeling of falling down, well done :)
Jump king and getting over it was my main inspirations, so its really fun hearing people mention how similar in feel they are to mine :) thank you for playing <3
AHHHHHHHHHH. Falling feels miserable hahahaha, great job. My main critique is that it would be nice if the item swap was much faster (like 0.25s-0.5s or something) because there were some situations where you would be able to take a faster path. Also maybe being able to change the items with your other hand (arrows or something), I feel that would help, as having to use one hand for everything makes the player slow down. Solid entry, I really liked playing it.
Thank you for enjoying playing and heating falling down <3
Having all controls only on one hand was definitely something I overlooked being a problem, but its obvious now that its been pointed out. When I learn how to make a proper options menu with rebinds I hope this doesn't becoma a problem in my future games haha xD
I enjoyed this game a lot! The gadgets were cool, although switching them a bit too long. Otherwise a very satisfying platformer, I wish it was longer :)
Thank you :D I made the whole level 4 hours before the deadline, so I didn't really have enough time for what I had in mind xD My plan was to at least have triple the length of what it is rn, but well of well, it is a game jam, what can you do haha
Nice work! I fell a very long way down and had to stop. Only thing I'd point out is the controls. The movement could have been a bit more responsive and it was hard to switch gadgets in midair with my fingers busy on WASD. I hope you don't mind the criticism. Altogether a really nice accomplishment for a second game. Cheers!
Haha if I made a player rage-quit my game because of a long fall, I see that as a success xD
I made the mid-air switching useless because I realized if I made it possible the umbrella - blower combo would be really hard to balance since you would only use that all the time. But with more time that is definitely something I would try to make actually work, because there is a lot of potential to do cool combos with different gadgets mid-air :D
love the art and the mechanics are so unique, am bad at platformers so was challenging at some parts but so much fun^^
Thank you so much! I am glad you got some enjoyment and hopefully a challenge to go along with it playing the game :D
Loved it! I struggled to pass some parts, that made me frustrated, but it's mostly because I don't like platform games that much so I don't have much skills for that hahaha it would be a nice twist if you get fall damage, I would cry but would feel awesome to think how to get down with dying haahahahahha. I have mixed feelings about the gadgets, I like how they are done, the time it take to change... but at the same time I would like to change them mid flight for more possibilities. Maybe that would not fit your concept well, so I don't think that you should change it, but who knows in another game?
Tahk you for playing! If you got frustrated, I am happy that I successfully made some type of rage game haha. The changing mid-air was something I thought about and it would allow the player more combos. The problem that I found was that almost everything was then solvable using the blower + the umbrella, and then the hands for the climbing part. So I scrapped the idea, but if I had more time I would be able to balance it :D
Really cute designs on the gadgets! I think the switching time between them could be a bit faster :P
Thank you!
Yeah, it kinda messes with the flow of the game, which is not very good for a platformer hehe
Very original mechanics :)
Thank you :D
5 : 23 time ! the game is fun. the only feedback i would like to give is to make the switching of the gadgets responsive
but overall well done !
Thank you :D Great time as well, I hope not half of it was spent switching gadgets xD But that's something I will consider in the future for sure
Nice job! Nice platformer, you can sort of stick to the sides of poles if you're near the top of them, which doesn't feel right, and the transition between gadgets could be a bit quicker for me, but overall great work!
Damn, hit box problems that slipped through. Probably something wrong with the tile sets hitboxes then! Thank you for playing :D
The gadgets are a nice twist on a vertical platformer, and the animations on the hats are cute. Overall, a fun little game.
Thank you :D
My first time trying to actually incorporate some animations in the gameplay, and glad that some of it was successful!
i feel bad for the blacksmith, he must do this everyday lol
liked the game! tho if it was longer i could give up. music in the main menu is surprisingly relaxing and nice! my only problem is that moving and choosing gadgets with only one hand was not very comfortable
It's not easy being that succesful :(
I think I got used to the controls myself during testing, so I never really thought about it but it's 100% true. You live and you learn and I'll make sure to think about the button layouts more in future projects. It's such an easy fix as well :D
The music makes my ears bleed. The platforming is wonky and cumbersome. There are many bullshit jumping puzzles. I hate everything about this game so much. You have captured the essence of the rage platformer in microcosm--well done!
I don't know if I should be happy or mad at this comment, but that is the essence of a rage game's emotional complexity -- thank you!
