I really like the extent you have gone to to make mechanics as clear as possible, that too in appropriate contexts. I also liked the idea with the movement mechanics, although it took me a while to 'drift' (like car 'drifting'; idk ship lingo) properly for better results.

A few things that come to mind are-

When displaying the instructions, give a little more time gap before showing a text after another. In the first level where it says the sail follows mouse, I missed the text that the corner arrow is pointing wind direction. I noticed this text only when I finished the game and started the second time. In all of the first run, I thought the water waves were moving in the wind direction xD

Wind direction could be displayed in a more immersive way. You could try experimenting with the cloud movement, water movement, or some other particle effect, etc. but it should be very clear at all times.

It feels a little counter intuitive to follow the arrow and head straight into land if the destination information is unclear. In the final level I noticed all the pirates grouped up. Then in the second playthrough, I realised that there were tiny sprites of pirates on all the islands. You should make it more obvious to the eye that the island is the target.

It's a very cool idea and the mechanics are fun. With further polish, it can be more enjoyable. If you make a post jam version, I hope you add more levels with diverse gameplay experience. Overall, nice work!

Thank you for the feedback!

I tried to make clouds and water move with wind but the player has no sense of place anymore. No constant thing to reference speed/direction. I made clouds to stop so player can have a reference of whats moving  and how fast the ship's going.

Thank you for playing!

Love the game! I had a laugh when I missed to catch a crew in last level. xD

I like it very much! Especially as an ex-sailor :)

Very nice idea to move with the wind. I had some issues with ships spawning right next to me, but with some polish this seems like a very good concept

Thanks!

I think this game has potential as a fun puzzle game after a bit of polish.

To start, it’s not immediately obvious that the wind is really your soul method of propulsion. I understood that having your sail with the wind would speed you up and against it would slow you down, but wasn’t quite prepared to have virtually no method to navigate beyond manipulating the wind. This limitation isn’t a problem, in and of itself, but perhaps a bit more warning about the near total lack of control..

I also didn’t quite grasp right away that I was supposed to head for the islands. I didn’t even really see the guiding arrow in my first run. Also, for a while, I thought I was loosing after crashing into the islands. It wasn’t until I crashed into a rock that I grasped that I wasn’t actually loosing to the islands. Perhaps if the “crewmember” moved from the island to my ship before the level completed… just to add that little extra visual queue.

Lastly… and this is actually my biggest issue… the player should never be able to leave the stage. My very first run, I easily sailed into “the void”. The game definitely should have ended (like hitting a rock) as soon as my ship gets to an “out of bounds” area instead of just letting the player continue to sail beyond the bounds of the game.

Like I said, this game definitely has some potential as a solid little puzzle game! I think a little more warning about the very limited navigation, a stronger visual or audio queue than a level was completed, and preventing the player from sailing out of bounds, and this would be an excellent game!

Thank you for the feedback! I was aware that I was making my games "obvious to me"  but I wasn't expecting this much detachment.  Guess I learned a lot in this jam.

Again, thank you a lot for the feedback 👍

It took me sometime to get used to the controls but once i did it was fun.

Nice game! I had a few issues like at the very first level, I didn't understand correctly what I was supposed to do and ended up on a gray area, so I had to refresh the page twice haha. But other than that it was a fun experience!

Developer(+1)

Yeah I could have made world margins but i forgot! Not for next time. Thanks for playing !

Neat game you've got here, I enjoyed playing it! It's simple to grasp and satisfying to control. Well done!

Developer

Thank you!

Very cool !

The boat has a lot of inertia, it takes a while to get used to, but when it makes sense its quite fun.

Maybe introducing the other ships mechanic a few levels earlier would have been nice, it adds some cool variety.

Thanks for the feedback. This was the first time I tried a story based game. Learning a lot 👍

Fun game, simple but good, takes a minute to get used to the controls, but then it's "smooth sailing"... I'll let myself out

Developer

😆 Thanks for playing !

Oh, I'm not destined to be a sailor! Dreams smashed against rocks! :D

Developer

Well, I accept it. It looks like "easy to me" is not valid.

Tricky I couldn't really master the sail lol. be cool if you had a radius around rescues  they would anchor up and send a boat. That would stop the high speed grounding in the rush to save your crew mates.

Developer

Thanks !

I'm pretty sure with the approaching speed, it might be the people on the boat needs rescuing. xD

Kool game!

Don't skip the animation day 😆

listened to pirates of the caribbean music while playing, cool game

Nice game! The difficulty curve felt a little off to me at points but it played nicely overall. It could use for some boundaries to the playable area that just auto-restart the level if you go outside them because it is easy to miss the island and end up floating forever. Lots of fun overall though!

Developer

Thanks !

You definately need boundaries on the levels, a few times I sailed past the objective and it just sailed into blackness. Good concept though, well done

Developer

Thanks !

The game idea seems cool but one mishap and the wind overpowers you can rotating thee ship and sail does nothing

Developer

Like in the real life !

Ok just for that im going to improve my rating on this since that makes sense

Cool concept  ! The gameplay is just hard enough to be challenging.

Good job :)

Developer

Thanks for playing !

Loved your concept… Nice simple and the movement of ship when you see island is satisfying… Good job, mate
