Ah yes, Roger the demon, absolutly terrifying.
I just finished your game, I'm so stressed it was so intense!! I love the story and the twists that make the game harder, it definitly felt chaotic. I love typing game so much, and yours was so well done! You srtoy was great too. 12/10 my favorite game so far. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Roger is a fiend and must be stopped!

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the game :)

what a  creative and interesting idea for a game. this was so much fun. I started off slow trying to practice  a "proper" typing position but that soon went out the window as demons with names like stu and kevin show up and make thing get faster. adding last names as you progress was a nice way of upping the difficulty . very fun game

Developer

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)

I also really loved your game's name and forgot to mention

Developer(+1)

Cheers! I've got a thing for puns, loved the name of your game too, along with the puns on your game page :)

Submitted(+1)

We too are fans of a good pun, that's for sure! Cheers

such a good  way to learn english.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'll have to add educational to the tags :)

Genius, I love the ending.

Thank you so much!

Interesting we both went for typing games! love this idea of progressing the narrative and even attacking through typing. The names of the demons made me laugh as well.

Developer(+1)

I love how different in feeling our games are with such a similar concept! Yours is amazing by the way - going to rate and comment presently :)

I really enjoyed the idea of using the one mechanic across every aspect of the game, glad it seems to have worked well for people :)

One of the few games of this jam I actually played from start to finish. That's how good it is! I love the idea, the execution, everything! Amazing job!

Thank you so much!

5 stars! love it, jeff the unclean lol. great ending!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I found that choosing names and titles was a wonderful distraction during coffee breaks haha

I love it. I love it I love it I love it.

Amazing game! The concept felt really different and challenging! Even the visuals looked good!

Developer

Cheers! I always enjoy working with simpler, low res pixel art, really happy it was appreciated :)

Submitted(+1)

This is so good! The cohesion of your visuals is really something. Didn’t make it all the way through but I definitely could if I had more time. I’d love to see this style expanded with more intense story elements.

Very well done sir.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Had a fantastic time coming up with ideas so far, sure it'd be a whole lot of fun to expand upon :)

Excellent game! I love the artstyle, & typing games are a unique genre I have not seen in a game jam yet, so props for that. Unfortunately, I was not able to complete the game, mainly due to my lack of skill, but I would like if it was slightly more clear when you switched between modes. Making the letters flash a different color when you enter the wrong key would also be a good addition in my opinion. Overall though, awesome game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! This is  great feedback!

For mode switching, perhaps dimming the text in the inactive area would add a little more clarity, or maybe making the border flash. I'll have a play and see what looks good. I love the idea of a quick flash of colour on an incorrect answer too.

I'll have a think regarding difficulty - I certainly don't think it hurts the game to give the player options here, my current leaning is potentially adding a slider to allow the player to amend the speed of the enemies to a level that suits them.

Cheers for the thoughts, really appreciate it :)

Interesting take on the theme and limitations. Linear story that is fun and rewarding. Gameplay that feels manageable but can be difficult for the slow typers out there. Simple but done very well. I can see this winning at least one category of the jam! Only thing that I thought was troublesome was some of the text like 'u' and 'v' looking very similar at times but maybe that adds to the challenge! Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Really happy with this :)

I should definitely have put a little more thought into the font I used - I absolutely love it, and it's one of my go to fonts, but 'u' and 'v' are a particular issue for this game, and there's definitely a few other moments where things can  be a little challenging to read. Might have been worth sacrificing the low resolution aesthetic for clarity in this case.

I also regret not including some kind of difficulty adjustment, as something simple like adjusting enemy speed might make this more accessible. I honestly hadn't considered it all that much, having mainly balanced this to work for myself - thanks for pointing it out, it's good to be reminded to give options for players of all skill levels.

Really value the feedback on possible improvements here - thank you!

Wow! It starts with that lit demon face and it catches you till the end!

To be honest it takes sometime a bit too much text to type but I still appreciated the  whole story and the ending :) really clever use of the theme and limitation. And well the atmosphere was really stunning, I was that lil robot fighting the portal of chaos.

The big demons with big names were perfectly represented. Not much to say, it's a  pretty good entry!

One thing to add maybe, you could've add some challenge by using some memory for the name until they reach a certain distance to you. If you remember the name, you can destroy them directly or wait for them to be closer or something.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Definitely a fair point regarding the text, in retrospect I think I should have saved more of the thematic stuff for later in the game as typing paragraphs when there's no external threat can easily get tedious. Something for me to work on for future titles!

Really intruiged by your idea regarding remembering demons names - would be really cool to match that mechanic with some kind of ghost enemy that phases in and out!

Awesome, my favorite game for this jam. Great challenge, great tension, great presentation, the finale is awesome, rewarding, fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Really glad you liked the game :)

Submitted(+1)

I loved the art style. The choice of color really fits the atmosphere and the way the letter shakes when your on it is amazing!

Developer

Thanks so much! Always fun working within a really limited palette :)

Submitted(+2)

Wow this was hands down my favorite game I've seen so far, the typing mechanic was so great I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it myself. The art was great and I loved the chaotic part at the end. Make it longer and you could easily publish it on Steam!

Developer

Absolutely thrilled with this comment - thank you so much! Delighted you enjoyed the game

Submitted(+1)

Agree this could be a steam game.

Submitted(+1)

Oh, what a game!

It starts off simply enough with the concept of a typing game in Story Mode (and you had won me already when I waited for the tutorial text to advance... only to realize I had to type in the tutorial text!)

But then the game plays around with mechanics beyond your expectations - jumbling letters, undoing written words... You took a good concept, and made it very, very interesting!

Bravo, awesome entry!

Developer

Thank you! I had so much fun coming up with ways to mess with the player, particularly that first tutorial page - it was one of the first bits I thought of once I'd come up with the concept, and sold me on this being an interesting idea to pursue, so delighted that it worked for you :)

Submitted(+2)

I really like the trick at the end !

Developer

Thank you :) glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

So i love the concept, typing out words to slay monsters. But i hate that when you die you need to restart all the way at the beginning, and re-do the tutorial. And after i died once, i was not able to finish the tutorial? In the very first sentence you have to type out, i was stuck at the last word because the game just didnt progress.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Your comment on not being able to skip the tutorial is absolutely spot on, and it really should have occurred to me to add it before I published as I'd already implemented it for playtesting purposes. I've uploaded an updated version of the game for Windows, OSX and Linux with this feature added (the browser version will remain the original through the duration of the voting period).

I can't seem to replicate the bug you encountered on replaying - do you have any more details regarding what was happening in game so I can try and fix? Not a problem at all if not.

Cheers again for your comment - really do appreciate it :)

Submitted(+1)

After restarting itch it worked again, and i cant seem to replicate it anymore either, so just ignore that. Thank you for the positive response though, i have seen other game devs reacting far more toxic.

Developer(+1)

No worries - thanks for trying it again! Always grateful for feedback, I'd like to improve so it's incredibly helpful to me :)

Submitted(+1)

Super creative and a very challenging (yet fair) game! Without spoiling it I very hesitantly followed one of the instructions and was pleasantly surprised! I really love how it looks and sounds as well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Glad you had a good time with it :)
