Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yep :D
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
This is an educational game where you do math problems and shoot enemies, with GUNS.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You're a pistol and a shotgun, literally weapons that you play as.
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
That I'm a solo developer and have been doing this for only a little bit so far, one day I hope to develop this game into a Roguelike that will be as fun as Brotato and as educational as games like Kahoot and Blooket.

Nice concept, but I guess it would be more viable if you don't just reload the gun but also push enemies back or something, when you type the right answer.. Or make the monsters approach in lesser quantities - I can do the math, but I just don't have enough time time to shoot them all :)
Thank you for playing! I think a knockback ability would be pretty cool actually :D
I like the concept, but this is not the sort of game I am ANY good at. I can do math, sure. But my brain latches on to doing the math and basically shuts down doing anything else while my mental cursor changes to an egg timer and flips end over end while the cogs whirl and eventually the answer comes out.
In this game, that means by the time I have an answer, I'm dead.
Or, I start typing the answer, just to realise the input hasn't got focus, and I am now dead.
So, as a usability thing - I'd maybe consider either removing the input and just having the game listen for numerical, enter and I guess delete input, and update a label of some sort to display what the player has currently input and not hit enter on?
But yea, the above? Thats all probably just cause I'm shit. This is a fun game, I just think I'm not the target audience.
Last comment(s)... that loading screen my dude... I see I'm the only one bring it up but...
Thanks a ton for playing :D, for the first part of your response, I think it would be a great idea to have correct answers auto submit, kind of like in brain age, I'll work on that right away! Yeah the loading screen was a foolish decision. I was super tired when I made it, at the last minute too because I didn't want the loading screen to just be the Godot logo. I think it is really stupid now, I already have a way better loading screen designed, and yeah Nintendo might come and hunt me down too so that's a shame. I'm not too worried though, I don't think anyone would seriously take offense to it as I designed it like one of these memes:
It's just stupid and immature and I don't like it at all, but I do not think that it would be grounds for disqualification all things considered. In any case thank you for coming and playing my game, and I really do appreciate the feedback, brutal honesty is better than just letting something remain bad. ',:]
Neat concept, it reminds me of The Textorcist, a game where you type and avoid bullets at the same time. The whole gameplay loop is similar to that and I 'd say it's quite fun and challenging too. For some criticism I think the difficulty should increase over time, such as more difficult questions and enemies for the player to deal with. Ah btw I do encounter one impossible question that is 0/0 and that just literally ended my run :(
Anyway, keep up the good work!
While I was playtesting the game I never saw the 0/0 glitch, in hindsight I should've remembered this clip from the amazing world of gumball
Thanks a ton for playing btw. I definitely want to add a way to alter the difficulty as some people will inevitably be math gods and others will hate math with a passion. This is a neat concept. Intense music going on while solving math problems quickly to load your gun is a vibe. Shooting itself worked great. I think an issue I encountered was having to click into the box to solve the math problems. With how quickly the enemies are spawning I should just be able to type in a number and hit enter. I was also encountering an issue with swapping weapons. I would hit shift and it acted like was swapping but then swap right back.
Think you're on the right track to making a fun math learning game! Good job!
Thanks for playing :D! I will definitely try to fix the issues with the textbox, I've actually heard a lot of people are having issues with it so that'll be one of the first things I work on. Your issue with hitting the shift bar is unique, maybe your keyboard double hits the shift bar automatically? But in any case I'll try to fix that too. I appreciate the feedback!
It could be a browser related issue. Just tried it in Chrome solved the shift issue. We love browsers don't we folks?
Which browser were you using originally?
Firefox
Yeah I have no idea what would be causing that, but I'm sure I'll figure something out eventually.
This game made me so mad and I can only assume that's the idea! 😅
No, that's not really the idea. I need to personalize the game's difficulty in a future update so that players will never feel too frustrated because of either the math or the enemies. Aside from that, was there anything in particular that made you mad?
Figuring out that I could move helped, but having to do that and then also move my mouse to click and focus on the text box made this feel extra difficult. The player already has one hand to keys for movement and one on the mouse to turn the gun and fire. I like the added difficulty of doing quick math and typing the answers to get more ammo, but having to completely stop to click on the text input box means I have to stop moving for too long and the game is over before it really begins.
Tldr; Allowing the game to capture these answers at any point would make the gameplay a lot less frustrating.
I was thinking after playing this that maybe it would feel better if bullets didn't stop at the first target and rather kept traveling through several. Then I saw in the comments that a shotgun is unlocked at some point, so that's probably a void consideration.
It's definitely not a bad game and I hope my initial comment was not discouraging. It just came across to me as similar to some other rage-inducing titles that are designed to get blood pumping with multiple things to manage and I don't typically fare well at those. 🙃
Thanks a ton for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I should have made the instructions more clear, that's my bad, I will definitely add a good tutorial. You don't actually need to re-click the textbox in order to input more answers, however, there is a bug that I still haven't figured out quite yet to where if you use wasd for movement then you can't also have it for text input, I'm sure I'll figure something out though, I might just make it possible to only use arrow keys or something so that this bug cannot even happen. I also certainly want players to have a way to keep moving and answering questions simultaneously, again that's a weird issue I haven't figured out a way to patch out yet. I actually am adding bullets for the pistol that penetrate through multiple enemies too :D, and alongside that in order to swap over to the shotgun you have to click shift, I should add that to a tutorial for sure.
I genuinely appreciate this feedback, the more constructive criticism my game gets the better it will be =D.
Fun game! The basic game loop is nice, movement and shooting feels nice, and going back and forth between enemies and doing math problems is a lot of fun! It is pretty difficult though! The gunplay itself is fairly easy, the math problems are fairly easy, but combining the two with the current amount of enemies and the ammo rewarded feels like it needs some more tuning. It's a great idea and I hope you keep building it, great job!
Thank you for playing! One of the first things I am working on is the game's difficulty, I am strongly considering implementing a system similar to Resident Evil 4's adaptive difficulty where you will have a base difficulty for the game and then after that the game will react to how you perform. I want this game to be accessible to everyone, that way everybody can enjoy it! I really want to keep working on this game, the more work I put into it, the more I wish I could have played the game whenever I was younger.
Nice Gameplay loop actually felt the urgency, gun lokks great.
Thanks, I'm still a beginner when it comes to making art for games so it will just keep getting better!
I like the feel of shooting the gun. It has nice pop!
Thanks for playing! I'm quite proud of the sound effects I found for this game, the audio randomizer helps a ton in reducing audio fatigue.
A simple yet fun game. although the shotgun seems too powerful leaving the pistol as useless. would also love more difficult math equations.
Thanks for playing! I'm considering either giving the shotgun a nerf to make it closer to the power level of the pistol or giving the pistol a buff to get it closer to the power of the shotgun. Also, when you say more difficult math problems do you mean larger numbers e.g 23 * 33 or maybe something like adding less straightforward operators like factorials?
I think both is a good way to add difficulty, larger numbers make math problems harder and harder operators might need a small math lesson before they are shown but I still think would be fun with a difficulty slider/options.
Yeah, I really like solving short algebra problems as well so maybe I could find a way to add them in. 5! is probably not a problem most people would know how to solve but I could probably give a tutorial for stuff like that. I would also definitely want to implement an adaptive difficulty system, like in RE4 so that players never feel too overwhelmed or too bored to be having fun. The more I design this game the more I wish I had it when I was younger and still in middle/elementary school.
Bouncing from positioning yourself away from enemies to solving simple arithmetic to aiming at and shooting the closest guy to you, was very surprisingly engaging. Your eyes can only look at so much, so you end up darting them across the screen WHILE having to do math in your head. Very fun.
One thing I do gotta say though is the game spawns a lot of enemies, maybe a bit too much. It's very easy to get overwhelmed in the first minute or so, without using the forbidden tech at least.
Overall, well done! The forbidden technique definitely got a laugh out of me when I inputted the code :)
Thank you for playing! Yeah, I've been hearing that the game is too difficult a lot, I'm probably going to switch the spawn rate to something lower like an enemy spawning every 0.2 seconds instead of what it currently is, 0.1 seconds.
Nice idea, I think it needs to be tuned a little bit to slow the enemies down. Good job tho!!!
Thank you for playing!
I like the idea! Very simple but fun - and the easter egg with the first question made me laugh for sure
I did encounter some bugs though-
I like the concept though and I think with more polish (and a different loading screen lmao) it could work well :D
Thanks for reporting these bugs, I just fixed the bug where the enemies can sometimes spawn right next to the player, now they will always spawn at a reasonable range away (I'll need to upload a new patch for the game first though). Can you clarify what you mean by the ammo counting down at an unpredictable rate means? You should always be getting rewarded 10 ammo for every math problem you solve, do you just mean that you feel like you burn through ammo too quickly? Thanks in advance :) Oh also, I'll definitely fix the loading screen too lol, last night, when I was finishing up the game, it seemed way funnier to me then.
to clarify, I do get 10 ammo from getting a question correct. However, I found that when holding a direction (WASD) and firing, occasionally the ammo count will tick down more than once leading me to have less bullets than intended :o
OH! That's quite odd, I'll try to recreate the glitch and fix it then.
Cool concept, but it was too difficult to play. Not the math problems tho, switching between math and the shooting. I have an idea for this, how about splitting both? Shoot enemies for a while and a pop screen appears(game pauses) you try to solve the math problem within a limited time, if you are successful you are rewarded with an upgrade. Just like Vampire survivors but with a twist
I was actually already considering doing something kind of like this, except with a wave structure. The game would start with you preparing some ammo by doing math problems and then some enemies would come after a certain amount of time had passed. Thanks for playing!
I hate math! All my homies hate math!
Completely fair, I want this game to appeal to everyone so I'll add a way to play without answering any questions, technically there already is just type 21 as the first answer ;)
I do really enjoy the split focus of this game - I like trying to kite enemies, aim, look at the question, and move my hand fast enough to quickly input a solution to the problem. This is cool.
Thanks for playing!
Yep, it says it on the tin, math and guns.
This could definitely be one of those games to teach kids math skills, though you probably would not find it in any schools.
I don't really like the disconnect between the shooting and the math. The split focus is a bit hard.
Solution could be that the gun aims automatically and me doing math adds ammo and/or makes it shoot.
Other than that, functional, kinda funny, and simple. Well done.
Thanks for playing! I want to make a separate version of this game specifically for schools that doesn't have guns, maybe replacing them with slingshots or something like that. I know that if I were to have played this game as a 7th grader the teachers at my school probably would've tried to block the game XD. I appreciate the feedback :D have an awesome day!
