I love it! We both made retro styled games but I think yours follows the restrictions of the consoles a little more closely than mine. Great work

Many thanks for your kind comment. I think if we made truly period acurate 1980's retro games today, no-one would tolerate them :D

PS Your tape loading screen really is neat.

I love the retro art style and I really love how the whole game feel complete that's a lot to say for a week long jam great job!

I really loved the sound effects especially the drop sound and the timer added a whole new element to the game I found myself with 5 seconds left on the clock dashing for the last key.

overall I really loved the game amazing work!

Developer

Thanks! Yes I felt it was important to make a fully functioning game, with user menus etc. Of course it helps that the game is graphically very simple.

Your game looks interesting, hope to check it out later tonight.

I'm a sucker for this retro games. I loved it. Very nice mechanics, challenging but fun to master!

Thank you! Coming from you that's appreciated! :-)

Simple game i love it! The artstyle, especially the keys remind me of an old game i used to play on my pc, i forgot what it is. Very nostalgic game.

Developer

Thank you! Glad it stirred some memories, I was worried it might be too old fashioned for a modern game jam.

The game is captivating. "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is a good soundtrack choice. The first game I've seen in which there are controls for the left handed (?).

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it! The controls are WASD, IJKL and cursor keys (which all do the same thing), so I hoped this would be suitable for right and left handers.

I love the "HaHaHaHaHa" when you get hit XD

Simple, yet VERY fun to play, great work!

Developer

Many  thanks!

Great work, your game brings nostalgia, it's graphic, controls and music perfectly mimic first computer games!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! My aim is to bring early 1980's gaming back to life.

artwork is brilliant, and aside from that I really liked each level trying something different, this is a well designed game! also, those "cheat codes" were a brilliant idea, there would be no way of me "beating" the game otherwise lol. lastly, the main theme melody reminded me of the old jardinains game :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kinds comments, glad you liked it. The main theme is known as "In the Hall of the Mountain King". I believe it's public domain (the composer Edvard Grieg died in 1907) and has been used in many games throughout the years.

This game felt so nostalgic and I had a lot of fun playing it😁

I like the old school skin of your game, and the level design is pretty good.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It's done using ASCII style 8x8 character graphics for an early 80's feel.

Fun game...i enjoyed the 8bit music!

Developer

Thanks! Yes, it gets quite tough later on.

A really nice retro game. It takes some time to learn what you can and cannot do, but this was the way back then.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, games were brutal back then!

Developer

Good fun! Reminded me of some classic old school games and I think the movement not being super smooth really helps in that - and in the tension of fumbling jumps when the timer is ticking!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
