Simple and awesome deckbuilder! Good artwork and funny sounds! The game is quite difficult in the beginning, because of the combinations that seem incomprehensible at first. But after a few tries I managed to figure out how it works.

I wasn't really sure what I was doing but the art and sound were like amazing. Definitely felt scared the more cards I played since the sound was keeping me on edge--I defeated the first enemy though I'm not sure how, and lost to the second, but the art for these enemies is brilliant especially the art for the cards too. Overall a good game!

This game does something very right! the sinister vibez, the epic B movie voice acting and the simple art brings it together nicely. I think the whole card combining and burning mechanic is very clever, it is also very unforgiving (which is a plus). Can't believe you pulled this in a week, that is crazy! Good job everyone, one of the favourites from this jam :)

Incredibly fun core game loop here! It does take a while to understand the game and attack vs keep deck alive mechanics, but once you do, it turns into an interesting gameplay that you have to think quite a bit. It's a challenging game!

I feel like everything you have in your game I could have blended into mine, as it also have cards haha

Really nice job!

In terms of improvements, I think that during the game play it took me a while to understand what each card did, so visual tips on mouse over would be nice. I found it clever that the "attack" is the total of points, it's almost like you mixed blackjack and tarot here!

Congrats on your game!

I didn't know what I actually did during my first game

While definitely not beginner friendly, at least slug has only 2 health so you can restart after figuring out how to do some stuff. Interesting card combo idea and also the announcer is pretty funny.

Nice game. Would be useful to have more instructions about how to play up front. Great job!

Wow, loads of depth in here and it's amazing how many effects you were able to design and implement over a jam! The two card combo to trigger effects is pretty genius for a jam game. Makes me think what could happen if you were able to unlock a third slot and other ways to manipulate the numbers...

This was hard but I really enjoyed figuring out how the rules worked and retrying it over and over until I won! The goofy voice over made me crack up. Having way too many hours under my belt at slay the spire and inscryption, I'm always excited about card game themed video games.

I hope you do more, with more ennemies and different mechanics... Maybe something that would allow the player to generate more cards, because they seemed to run out fast! Either way, I really had fun.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Yeah Slay the Spire was a big part of the inspiration. Definitely thinking about how we can take it further while still keeping it interesting.

I have no idea how I won, I was just placing random cards. The rules of this game seemed confusing but I really dug the sound design and art

Developer

Pure skill I reckon 😎 Glad you enjoyed!

That was difficult! But it was fun playing while learning what cards there were, and the voice-over just made it a lot more fun to play the game again and again.

Cheers! It's definitely tricky at first but there's some pretty OP combos 😏

Cool idea! I found it very difficult and barely made a dent on the second opponent however. Good use of cards and fun game!

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed!

Really cool idea and addicting too. I got close but still can't beat evil eye :'(

Developer

You've got this, you can take down the eye 💪

Oh no, my only weakness: Rogue-like deck builders. Now with my tarot card themes, you can't do this to me.
Ok, jokes aside, I really really enjoyed this game. Like despite some control jank and beginning difficulties I got really into it, played again and again, and now I just wish to see more of it. Not even necessarily like "more content", but some quality-of-life changes to hone the gameplay and make it more readable. Using players cards as health is a good concept, hard to balance but good risk-reward system, and I'm not sure if I can explain it, but using the Arcana's like this gives that deck builder feel, or "How do I play my cards right", literally. Also the announcer was fun, music good. Great work on this.

On a side note, not sure if it was intentional or a bug, but I got the evil eye down to 2 health, used 2 Deaths in a row, it didn't take any damage, when it became it's turn it burned like 6 cards from me :| After this even if using Lovers I could not kill it. Shame, I had such a good run going.

Thanks, so glad you enjoyed! We'd love to keep working on it; definitely keep an eye out, we'll take those suggestions on-board.

Ah, I think I know what's going on there with the Death and the Eye. Cheers for the report, I'll look into it.

Fun ideas with merging cards and discovering effects! Goofy VO work made me chuckle!

Nice entry on the card games, the mechanics of merging cards to cast spells is cool, nice sound effects too :)

I not sure about the mechanic of burning cards as the main enemy attack, I find it really frustrating and hard, I ended up drawing my whole deck and spaming the Justice card ahah

Developer

Thanks! Yeah it's a hard one to balance for sure. The Sun and Justice combo is a powerful one 😂

Tried couple of times but never beat the third enemy. I rarely have card that dealt damage. or maybe i just play it wrong. Very cool game, however. Good work!

Developer

There's definitely a knack to it, but nice job getting to the Eye. Glad you enjoyed!

My friends would disagree but I definitely love the graphics. My favorite so far.
In terms of gameplay, you could have added more interactions, like 'combos' with the card pairs, which would have made the game mechanics more engaging.

Developer

Mmm good shout, we'll have a think! Really glad you enjoyed and thanks for the kind words!
