This is an interesting project with some really high potential.
While I love the music and the sprites along with the addition of moving enemies with functioning enemy AI, there are aspects which could use some improvements. Before I talk about that though I will elaborate a little on the above.
The music is at a pleasant volume and didn't require adjusting which is an often overlooked aspect of sound design. It was also a very pleasing tune that made me want to keep playing so well done there.
The sprites are very well made and frankly they look amazing. The animation on the Hollow Mage is also a lovely touch which brings life to the MC. It's a really nice use of pixel art and goes to show how good pixel art can still look when done right.
I also liked that the enemies moved towards the Hollow Mage when you approach them, Enemy AI is not something I've seen in these game jams before and I think it's great it was in there.
...
Okay, so that being said the level design didn't work hugely in favor of any of these things. The spikes and the platforms could have been made placed with a bit more of a linear progression in difficulty instead of being immediately greeted with two enemies at the point of spawn and platforms that were not visibly on the screen and thus created a leap of faith effect, which seemed a bit harsh even as the final challenge. Also as much as I love the music I did feel like the music was a bit at odds with the combat, perhaps with the right sound effects and added animations this could be resolved. The feel of the music took me to a tavern or a small town. So perhaps having that shown in the background or in the strangely large amount of space, left of the spawn point, would be a good idea. One last minor thing is there appears to be a slider with seemingly either no obvious use or possibly no use at all in the options.
With these things reconsidered this could be a fantastic little fantasy adventure platformer!
Art is great, especially the mage and it's cute animations. It's nicely pixeled and has a great colour - yay purple! The enemy looks great and creepy too although shame there's no animation.
However the level design isn't great as the start is unforgiving and it seems that the sizing is all off or something? It feels that we're zoomed in and the platforms and spikes are weirdly or incorrectly too big.
Spawning with two enemies right on top of you is cruel and I kept instantly dying, plus there's a platform blocking you. There's also the option to go left which feels like a long time before you finally hit a barrier. The platforms and spikes seem to be incorrectly sized and placed at weird heights as neither you or the enemies can go under some of them so both get stuck. Nearer the end there are platforms that lead down and there's no way of knowing where they are so it's just jumping and hoping you land on them. Not sure if that's intentional or not.
Music is good, but starts weirdly after a few seconds of silence and there's nothing in the menu so that could have been a good idea to do. Some kind of background would be nice as well, whether a forest or village. Finally, instead of just insta-dying, there should be a damage or heart system as the hit boxes aren't great so death is likely.
In short: great work on art, not so much design.
The main menu seems very basic but I do like the buttons. It's a shame that only the options button changes colour when you hover the mouse over it as I quite liked this. Unfortunately the options menu doesn't seem to do anything with its slider and I don't like the way that the buttons aren't uniform.
It's a shame that when the game begins you get some enemies basically spawn on you, but after you know this is coming and I had figured out that I could shoot, it was easy enough to get myself out of that sticky situation. I feel as if the enemies shouldn't attack you the moment you spawn, so you can get your bearings within the game I did however like the death screen as it kept with the same them as the main menu.
I enjoyed the music that had been chosen but I think that the main menu could have used some of it's own music as well. Unfortunately there are no SFX in the game which, personally I feel made the game feel like it was lacking in something.
The sprite animations for the main character was nice but it was also the only animation and when the you jump up on ledges then you would be floating above the ground which was strange as the ground floor you were almost touching it and the goblins had no animations which was a little strange as they just glide towards you.
I liked the challenge of only having one hit but wish there was some kind of checkpoint system so when I did die, I wouldn't have to start the whole level again. As a lot of the hit boxes felt like they should have been a little smaller as there were several times that I cleared some spikes but then I died anyway.
I liked the crystal at the end of the level but again a shame it wasn't animated and because of the way that you can spam the shoot nothing feels threatening except the spikes because of the slightly oversized hit boxes on them.
Overall I feel as if this game had some potential but falls short because of a lack of SFX and animations and that there is only 1 level but I did enjoy it.
The beginning is pretty insane, since not only are 2 enemies right there, but you also start facing away from them. Took me a couple tries.
Also once you kill the 2 enemies you can just "peace out" to the left, there is an invisible wall there but you can go quite far.
Other than that very enjoyable. The music was lovely, so was the art style.
Took me a couple of spawns to work out how to kill the first couple of enemies that were spawn killing me. After that the game was a lot better, nice art and pretty solid movement.
Art and animation are flipping great and the gameplay loop is challenging. Only issue I had was the fact you get spawned killed instantly if you are not quick enough to react.
nice art and works really well and feels good to play. i realize ur aiming for a hard mode as the enemies one tap you so i find it odd at the end u had to jump into the nothingness which could instantly kill u if ur unlucky which made me not want to jump. just something to think about.

I like it, some really nice character and enemy sprites. I found it a bit weird to have two enemies spawn right next to me as soon as the game started but it was fine once I knew to expect it. Controls were decent and attack was very responsive, overall a really solid platformer.
I like the artwork and the gameplay from what i got to experience of it sound work is also good however there is a slider in the options menu with no description to what it do. Also I believe there is some code or something in there somewhere that some anti viruses don't like as this happened.
The game has a cool art style and the music is nice.
I did find it odd you couldn't fit under any of the ledges and the goblins kept getting stuck everywhere.
but overall it was a fun game to play.
Dificult to make to make jumps as collision on the player isnt very clear and you have to jump at the last second for jumps makes that dificult otherwise controls fairly nicely and the options button is confusing as it seems like it doesnt effect anything
a goblin just over your head as soon as the level starts.. talk about harsh lol
Jokes aside this game was quite fun to play, nice working controls and the design of both the level, sprites and background were really nice. Something that I'd add for next time you make a game like this is possibly more levels.
Quick question though, what is the slider in the options menu for?
Apart from that, nice game!
It is a fun little game. However, the lack of any explanation of what the controls are makes it very difficult to play, especially since there's little to no time to actually press random buttons to see what they do before dying.
While the start is a bit confusing and a little cruel to someone not expecting to be attacked, it was a fun little game to play.
I think the sprite work is amazing on the game, with the players character being very well and interesting, same with the goblins. I just wish there were more levels and such.
