How does your game fit the theme?
you have time to prepare for the enemy, mimicking a calm before the storm, this repeats until the storm is finished as in killed

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
code written from scratch, we used some copy right free assets, we linked them in the description

Really cool, love the concept and the atmosphere! Feels inspired by Amnesia: The Bunker. The monster was creepy enough, induced a minor panic especially when I ran out of ammo. The biggest issue I had was the ladder - it was really hard to just get off it on the floor, I kept smacking my face against the wall and falling down.

Amazing entry, the bunker building system is so cool, the atmosphere is spot on, and the monster is great. You really hit the horror vibe when the lights start blinking. The only criticism I have is the finicky controls (it is a little confusing to exit the scouting station, and the ladders are weird.) Please make a full game based on this concept!

Congrats to the whole team on a truly fantastic entry!

Developer

Thank you!

A cool set of systems and a great atmosphere. The base building worked very well, and the 3d added a surprising and nice touch of visual depth. I never did find out of the gun actually did anything to the monster. That thing freaked me out, with what looked like a procedural walk animation?  The ladder definitely hurt a bit, but really great project for getting it done in a week!

Developer

I don't know what 3D you mean (backgrounds?).
Yeah, you can call it "procedural walk animation", but it has no inverse kinematics
You can actually kill the monster, it just takes a lot of ammo and a few days.
Should add more feedback on damage...
Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted

Oh interesting, it wasn't a 3d effect? Whenever I moved between rooms,  it felt like there was some added depth.

I'll have to give it another shot to kill the monster. It always killed me first

Submitted(+1)

Shame about reusing assets, not a bad game though, well done!

Developer

Yeah, tried to make every room somewhat unique,
but it's all "programmer art" and only rooms have taken 2 days to draw
Thanks for trying out!

Building your own base is really cool and the build system was really well done, the highlight for me I think was running headfirst into the monster the way the tentacles latched onto points and crawled forward was really cool.

Developer(+1)

Don't get to close, or it will bite :)
Thanks for playing

Submitted(+1)

Very neat!  The tentacle monster was a cool touch, seeing it for the first time from the scout room was a cool surprise!

Developer

Glad you find it cool, thanks for playing

Submitted(+1)

Amazing Game! The ladder was my greatest enemy :)

How did you make the monster? The Tentacles attaching to close objects really made it incredibly ominous.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

It is verlet integration that is usually used to make ropes (learned it from Sebastian in his "I Spent a Week Making an AI's Video Game Idea") and ray casting. It has a very simple behavior tree for it's AI

Thanks for trying it out, and sorry for the ladder >_<

The illusion of 3D Assets with every ladder going up and down is so unique. The monster is terrifying and seems well programmed. The ladder was a bit clunky to get off, but thats really nitpicky. Best game I played so far, amazing team and entry!!

Developer

Thank you for these nice words!
happy to hear that you enjoyed the game :)

Submitted(+1)

that monster gave me a jump when i first saw it. ladders were a bit funky tho but its understandable for a jam, well done

If you've got some free time please try my game out too

Developer(+1)

Tried, your game is amazing dude. And thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Very good idea ! I love the world building part and I really felt lost when I entered the bunker ! You really deserve a good rank !

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed!

Very ambitious and well executed, I had some trouble getting off of ladders and I'm not sure if there is a gameplay mechanic I've been  missing with the water. First encounter with the monster was terrifying and I died almost immediately. After a couple of attempts I was able to fend it off, but it is a very tense and atmospheric game you guys have created. Great interpretation of the theme and very well made, I'd love to play a more fleshed out version with more mechanics.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

We haven't had time to finish the water room and ladder needs work.
We will try to finish the game after the jam, but no promises
Thanks for your comment!

The atmosphere and visuals are top-notch. Well done.

Developer

Thank you, we gave it our best shot!

Submitted(+1)

This is an incredible game! Well done for managing to do this in such a short time!

The atmosphere is very gripping and I really jumped the first time the monster attacked me ^^ The only flaw I would note is that I have no idea if my bullets have any effect on it.

Developer(+1)

Bullets do have effect! Yeah... we need more indication of that for player,
but health bar for semi horror game feels wrong
Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I agree. Maybe just a flash on the monster ? Or blood ?

Submitted(+1)

You did a great job with the atmosphere and that enemy!

Developer

Happy to hear you enjoyed it, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Love the fact that you build the bunker before the monster comes, feels like you can personalize the game to what you want. Also very goofy sometimes as if the monster grabs you on a ladder you can avoid damage by jumping onto the ladder. The gun keeping it at bay is a nice touch.

Developer (2 edits)

We thought ladder was instant death.. because there was nowhere to run. Oops...

I'm glad you liked it, thanks for comment!

I almost ragequit cause I died twice on the first day and having to rebuild the bunker was annoying >.< But I did it in the end and survived up to day 8, I’m not sure I understood everything. Can we kill the monster? Does the water slows it? What are bed good for? Is it a bug I can’t heal during an attack but I can get ammos?

Of course, I understand it’s a jam, I just felt a bit overhelm, maybe cuz there is a tutorial and it doesn’t show or explain any of it ^^ That’s actually a great job you did here, the atmosphere is great, great sounds and graphics, creepy monster, multiple gameplay phase… I could see some kind of loop here and it would be very interesting.

Developer(+1)

Man, sorry to hear that,
Yeah, we probably need to save the bunker as a template for the next runs or let the player generate a random one.
Yes, you can kill the monster, and water was planned to slow down the monster, but we skipped it for the jam.
Beds have no function yet. And it was planned that you couldn't get ammo (need to fix that) or heal during an attack.
8 days is actually not bad! Thanks for the review!

(+1)

Pretty good game, if only it had more enemies and threats to make you move around the bunker more, it would be awesome!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with you,
the game needs more monsters! but for jam we focused on this one

Submitted(+1)

The level of polish on this is insane for one week. Love the sprite work and the (I'm assuming procedural) animation on the creepy guy. Was super unnerved the first time it showed up.

Developer

Thank you for your comment.
You're right! Scary dude is procedural,
uses the verlet integration rope technique for legs and raycast

Submitted(+1)

Pretty fun. Very unique that you need to build your own bunker and survive in it. The "horror" aspect also works well!

Developer

Thanks,
glad to hear everything is working as intended!
