game feel was super solid, and the concept was adorable! i also really liked the mechanic of the decaying floor, it was really unique how you had to kill the bats to keep the floor intact. really innovative with good game feel and sound design! i could not figure out what the different nozzles did, but i had fun anyways!

I like how you used the theme, very good game.

The only thing that bother me is that all the controls in game are with the keyboard but you need the mouse for the menu.

Really nice game, I love the idea and the chosen sounds and art!

This is a fun take on the typical wave shooter, and encapsulates the theme very well. I think the core conceit is very strong, as I've come to expect from you, and you've executed on it very well.

I do have a handful of things I would tweak, though:

- The level feels quite small from the start, even before platforms start disappearing. I imagine the intent was to keep rounds shorter/tighter, but it makes the whole thing feel quite claustrophobic at times, especially when paired with the slippery player controls. Neither of those things individually are necessarily bad, but the combination of the two definitely led to some frustration.

- The visual clarity between the intact tiles and broken ones was a little difficult to parse, especially in the heat of an intense round. There were a lot of times I would be artificially restricting what tiles I moved on because the lowest levels of decay can be very difficult to distinguish from the goop. Either a different (brighter) tile color or a different way of  having the tiles break would have cleared it up.

- The enemy spawning locations could make it really tricky to actually reclaim ground at times. Oftentimes I would already be trapped on one edge/corner and all of the enemies would spawn clustered around that area which doesn't help in the long term. Maybe some amount of weight on the random spawns would improve things? They could probably also spawn slightly closer to the edge of the screen in general, the arrows showing up so far before they could be interacted with struck me as odd.

That looks like kind of a lot of negative, but it really is just nitpicking, I loved a lot about it too!

- It's a very satisfying gameplay loop, and an excellent use of the theme.  It's very compelling to go back and try for another high score.

- I do quite like the absurdist framing of the plot, and I appreciate that you have that opening cutscene to give some clarity, crude as it may be. It definitely has a certain amount of charm.

- The different spray patterns were a great way to add some subtle strategy to a largely quite simple game, and they force you to really think about your best option to kill any given enemy.

- Tracking your highscore between rounds is a nice touch!

I can truly see so many more ideas that could effortlessly slot into this existing formula, which I think is how you know an arcade game has succeeded. You make a lot of similar games for jams, but it's because you know what you're doing and it works! I'll never stop telling you to refine your graphics though X)

Very fun game (especially considering the timeframe)

  • very cool sprites
  • cool idea
  • good writing! I laughed a few times lol
  • good sound design!
  • nice backgrounds!

I have a few notes though:

  • the UI audio is a bit loud
  • player feels a bit too fast
  • I'd like more contrast between tiles and void/goop. Maybe white tiles?

Very good job though ^^

fun idea and polished very nicely. got a score of 7k after about 10 mins of playing. loved seeing your updates on the discord!

The intro was hilarious! I really liked the game's core concept; my mind wandered thinking of all the ways the main mechanic could be explored further. Great polish and VFX too. Nice work!

I love the game design. You wish for more enemies to stay alive, at the same time you need to maneuver around to dodge them too. It's a nice little arcade game where I wish to see what it could be, if you had more time to develop on this.

Solid Work. good Job.

Good Sound design, really polished, you can feel the juice, or should I say, Goop, while playing! It would be really interesting where you can go with the concept, add different enemies, weapons, floor-types, maps etc.

Also the intro with the Picasso level art is exactly my kind of humor, great job!

A bit lacking in features and game balance

but VERY polished and clean looking, sound design was great! though since i have a 60% keyboard i stood in the middle with the spary gun and just shot around me, got to 10k in score still so maybe rebalance and make it so u gotta move around more

all in all, great game for 48 hours 7/10!

Great little game.

Got a score of 5330.
Liked the cutscenes, very funny. Game concept was cool, you had to think about where you want to kill enemies to regenerate the floors. Too bad there was only 1 enemy type, would have been cool to see more enemies and power ups and what not.

Nice game, innovative and fun. The difficulty was really fine tuned, having the game challenging. The different sprays and the green arrow added a tactical layer which I enjoyed. Awesome game, well done!

Very fun little game managed to get like a 7800 score. The use of the theme was very smart and I also loved your discord updates lol.

I really enjoyed playing the game, I liked how the tiles dissapear after a certain amount of time so I had to make strategies of killing the bats at the center so that I could shoot more freely. Only complaint is that the controls feel a bit clunky, I would have prefered if you could use the mouse to shoot instead of the arrow keys.

A fun little game, I like how due to tile decay you wish for more enemies, I was feeling happy whenever I saw a bat on the other side of the screen. Also intro was funny, loved the art. Bats and goo, that is one unlucky man :)

This is genuinely a lot of fun.

The background is trippy in a good way, and it's not too distracting from the foreground either.

The spray modes effecting the tiles (and not the way your attack works) is really clever! Also, can I just say that this game has such a great take on the theme?

Honestly, one of the best jam games I've played in the past few game jams. It's incredibly easy to understand, it's short, it's fun, it's well polished.  5/5.

What an entry.

Edit: and I got 9020 points on my best run.

Very kind feedback, as always. And 9020 points! Nice score, well done!

When making jam games, I always seem to end up making the same thing - an arcade style point-gainer that gets harder as time goes on - and I think it's because they always tend to be fairly easy? Not easy in the sense of easy to make, but easy to quickly prototype, "fun-test", and then expand and polish into a full title ("full" in the sense of cooked through before the deadline). They also leave a lot of room to add experimental mechanics, polish, theming, and just extra "sauce", I guess I'd call it. Maybe my calling is just arcade games and this is a moot, I don't really know. I'm glad that my jam game hack job worked as well as it seems to, and I'm thrilled that you had a fun time playing! Thanks again for the feedback.
