I first tried to play this one four days ago. I thought that the cursor I was supposed to play the game with was the mouse cursor and I couldn't figure out how to make any progress! I assumed it was bugged and came back today to see if it had been updated. Finally today I understood that there was an in-game cursor I could move around, the page description even says to use the keyboard to use it, so I'm very sorry I didn't see that earlier!
It took a while to find all the points of interest. Once I learnt that being in the right area for about three seconds would always indicate that I was on the right track it became more satisfying to play. I let the screenshots lead me astray, I was so certain that the door must be one that I kept going back to it.
The atmosphere is incredible, the monochrome art combined with the ambient sounds work great together and the distraction of the video game works both mechanically and narratively. The 'bad dreams' were both imaginative and horrific, though I didn't understand the one with the child.
Really great work!
I liked a lot the art and the graphics, when i started i was very scared with what was going to happen, then i realized the game were the videogames that Tama was playing. It could be a really good horror game in the future, but well done!
I played this game 2 times now, once for 10 min, and another for 5 min, and I couldn't get anything to happen, only the game Tama was playing would appear, I don't know if it has happened to anyone, but it was eery nevertheless. The visuals are hella good and combined with the soundtrack it makes it a good experience. I will add the game to my collection and play it once in a while to see if things work for me sometime (or just tell me if I am an idiot, cause I read the rules and throughout both playthroughs I was moving around with the mouse nonstop). Great job making the art, and I hope you had fun in this jam! (Cloud)
You were supposed to stare at an object, not move the pointer nonstop 😅
You could play the Windows version, which is more polished than the WebGL version. Don't forget to use an earphone or headphone for the best experience. And if you want to rate the game, you could rate the WebGL version as a jam version. Thanks!
Thank you for pointing it out, it is a bit weird from a design standpoint, but I can see why you made it like this. (P.S.: it was also 3 in the morning when I played it so my bad 😅)
One of the best works in terms of atmosphere and art in the jam.
My congratulations!
That... is awesome pixelart and art style. I really adore that.
Didnt find a way to do something else, other than pressing buttons not to die, though.
nice arts and sound, i think it may need more instructions on what to do or a mechanics that helps you progress fa little faster in the game.
Nice atmospheric graphics and sounds, but I was a bit lost on what to do
This can really be confusing to the level of unprogressive, if the player hasn't read anything on the webpage.
However, this has really nice atmosphere. The ambient and sounds are superb.
Great game! The narrative was quite confusing. Didn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to what was going on. I also found it repetitive to have to hover 3 times on each. Once I knew how it worked, there wasn't really anything else, just felt like it was dragging on. Really good job though, keep it up!
I'm still figuring out another mechanic that I can use for variety. Thanks for playing!
Nice atmosphere, but I really don't see what to do but pressing "z" when the clock on the tv is on the green spot, over and over... you really should clarify the gameplay
Yeah I know, I'm going to add in game instruction. Thanks for playing!
So many scares in so few pixels! Amazing job!
In-game instructions would've been nice, but I know it's standard practice to just put them in the description for Jams (I did it too) :)
Interesting decision to move the cursor with keys and not mouse, I think not having fast movement adds to the tension.
Repetitive in a good way, kind of 1 investigation 1 in-in-game move. Also loved the game's game gameplay, nice timing, forgiving mechanic, enough to be challenging but made it clear that's not the point of the main game.
I found 3 of the creepy ones, would've liked some indication of "how far" I am, not where stuff is, but maybe you could use the clock and like "1 hour pass each time you find one, survive from 12 to 6am", just an example ;)
My first 5/5 rating on everything this jam, well deserved!
I really appreciate your kind words.
Yeah, I'm going to add in-game instructions because I realized many people didn't read the description in the first place. And I can really consider your suggestions! Thanks!
Took a bit to figure out what I have to do. Took even more to find what I have to look at. The game as it right now requires a lot of patience to finish. Maybe make the object you have to look at seem a bit more suspicious or a bit out of place would help.
The ending was kinda anti-climatic for me. Probably because the high expectation the in-game cutscenes gave me throughout the game.
Love how the game looks and sounds. One of the most aesthetically pleasing game I have played this jam. There was so much attention to detail. The in-game cutscene was great, make me really want to finish the game.
Great game. Now I don't even dare look at anything in my own home, thanks.
Yup, I really missed pointing out what objects to look at. Thanks for your feedback!
It took me a while to figure out what we were supposed to do but overall the game was amazing!
The gameplay was quite hard to figure out and I'm not sure where else I need to look at. But I really like the atmosphere and the way the nightmares are implemented!
I like the atmosphere and how the game looks, but honestly I just can't get the TV screen to flash black ones, I'm sure I've scouted the whole room with the cursor and tried but nope. Only gameplay I get is the TV flashing yellow and pressing z on the green dot :D
It looks lovely, but for my taste it's too hard to find the actual gameplay to be interesting enough to keep me there. I'm sure there are people who LOVE this kind of games and I'm sure this is really well done, since it looks amazing and as I mentioned the atmosphere was on point! :)
I loved the look and feel of the game. I am not a big fan of this style of game so it is hard for me to critique. I just do not have the patience for moving around a cursor when my character is not really do anything. This is just me. I think you have a niche game that is definitely good for its genre. I think you have some wonderful ways of showing it in the style and art. The music and sounds were also very engaging.
Well, the game is really atmospheric but as a game... eh. Main gameplay mechanic isn't really interesting, and also unintuitive how it works: at first I spent 5 minutes trying to understand how game works, then I gave up and went to read description, and then I spent 5 more minutes until got it. And then, after I lost before 4 nightmare I had no desire to replay game to look for next ones, so decision to restart game on failure is too doesn't really works for player.
But it looks good, especially TV light. Only thing which I didn't liked it's that hero head color is the same as bed behind it so it's indistinguishable.
Yeah, it's quite hard for me to make the main gameplay intuitive (I just jumped into this kind of genre and I still have a lot to learn). I've considered in-game instructions and it's still in progress
And yeah, the player's hair! I wanna make it a little bit darker. Thanks for your feedback!
Art style and Music are really well done! Gameplay has a lot of potential here, though it was a bit confusing I was able to understand the mechanics after several plays. The animations are really well done and the vibe is consistent, which gives it that cool eerie setting. Overall Nice Job!
First, off, those "nightmare" sequences were the star of the show. They were very well put together and a good idea to only use a few frames to keep the scope small. They were definitely the payoff I was looking forward to after the gameplay loop. The cohesive art and overall sound sound effects were also great.
I did find that it took me a long time to figure out what I was actually doing, and I had to re-read the instructions a second time to get the hang of it, however once I knew what to do, it went a lot smoother. My main wish would have been to activate the "hauntings" at any given time, rather than in a specific order. My reason for this is that you end up having to retry observing certain areas many times to see if it's going to have anything happen, which might make people impatient (and sometimes I'd forget if I had checked a place in some "cycles"). Regardless, those are minor nitpicks that didn't make me want to stop from completing the game, so great job!
The graphics and the music really set that eerie vibe, and the cutscenes are pretty interesting as well. It looks amazing, for sure, but the gameplay was kind of underwhelming.
It took me awhile to figure out what to do besides play the TV minigame. I knew you were going in a mysterious direction, but all it did was cause confusion. The concept could’ve been executed more properly, but still, good job! :D
Sorry to hear that and yeah I've to refine the concept. Thanks!
