Nice, like the guy with the gun and how the enemies com to try and destroy your stand. I think it's fun and you did a good job on it.

Developer

Thanks for playing :)

Fun game, controlls were hard for me (using a glove80 as keyboard) but managed to get by shooting only up and down. :) And permanent upgrades fits the game perfectly! Great cover art, Thanks for the entry!

That's very interesting, never heard of it, but I'm curious about it. What do you think would be better controls that might work both for your keyboard and regular keyboard?

Also, maybe I'm biased or something but I think once the game uses up, left right, down to shoot in just one direction like that by key, then the game already has to do more work after that to stand out and be good IMO. After that, it may usually actually not be that good for some reason, at least for me (not sure what though or why). I actually thought this game did a much better job somehow than many of the others I saw before with this sort of four direction shooting by separate key. (none from this jam, this is first one I saw from this jam like that with shooting in that way).

What do you think about this? Besides that you're using a Glove80, suppose you're not. For example, I didn't use one, but there's something about this shooting in 4 directions thing that already makes any game that does that much harder to impress me after that, than if the game did something else instead. Why might that be and what might the real reasons be that you think might be the case? Wonder if maybe you had some idea about it out of curiosity, or even felt somehow the same way and why you might feel that may be the case.

For people that don't have a normal arrow key cluster, I think the good old ijkl (like in liro for those old enough to remember that game) would have worked well for this. I am not saying that the controls were bad, as I by no means use a regular keyboard, as my < and > keys are below c and v, so can't hit those while using wsad to move.

Hmm that's good to consider. It's funny, for some reason (not on this submission, but on my first one) I did add IJKL as alternate keys as well as WASD, arrow keys, even controller left joystick, and controller dpad as all alternate controls working smoothly all at same time. On my first time making a game too, period, in any engine, never even exported a build or made even a small prototype before that point (which was - I mean, probably just couple weeks ago too. But I also only targeted Desktop too for that jam, since it was.....my first jam and my first time using itch.io too. And that one was a completely different kind of game than the submission I have for this jam).

The submission for this jam however uses a different engine, one that I found much harder to use than the one I used for the first jam (for me  at least) but really wanted to try it, for certain.....reasons. This submission just uses simple, basic keyboard controls instead, and it's a totally different kind of game. This is my first jam exporting a web build, period, and my first jam using that specific engine I chose. Somehow I pulled it off (not sure how actually as I was pretty sure I wouldn't have anything, period - for either jam but especially for this one, so I was surprised).

We had never even considered different keyboard layouts. This is incredibly useful feedback! I will try to implement key rebinding in my future projects. Thank you!

Overall this a great submission, very polished and has a nice game loop.

Has a good amount of a game feel, but I will say the controls and shooting felt a bit sluggish, especially at the beginning, as people has pointed out, not having the ability to shoot diagonally really debilitates the player's ability to kill mutants. Maybe switching the shooting to be independent of the keyboard and use the mouse to shoot in any direction you want would help?

Developer

We've gotten a lot of constructive feedback about the shooting. It's definitely something I wish I handled differently. Lessons learned for my next project! Thanks for the feedback, we really do appreciate it!

I loved the humorous tone of this :). Definitely cool gameplay, I had to quickly figure out not to stray too far from the stand. I couldn'y figure out if money was supposed to be worth something, is it spendable?

Developer

There is an upgrade shop but I don't think I did a great job of communicating that within the game, it's a little easy to miss. A lesson learned for next time! Thanks for playing and for the kind words!

Love the art!! But I would like if there would be some obstacles for the enemies coming straight to the stand is a luttle bland.

Developer

We had breakable defensive items planned from the start but due to time constraints they never made it in :'(

Thanks for the feedback!

Game and controls feel great to play. Well polished

Nice work team!

The art is fantastic and the upgrade system has a lot of nice variety. I think exploring the upgrades and how they affected the gameplay was ultimately my favorite part!

Music and sound are great and definitely make me feel like I am truly alone as the last lemonade stand on the planet.

I know it is tough to implement all these little details but I would have loved a key rebinding option in the menus. Maybe I missed it but unfortunately my arrow keys are awkwardly placed on my keyboard.

Overall awesome game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! Key rebinding was something I had never really thought of, that's very valuable feedback, thank you!

Really like the idea, the art is fantastic, and I like the upgrade system.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked it :)

Idea is super cool!, just a very slow beginning, and it felt weird not being able to shoot diagonally.

Developer

The lack of diagonal shooting seems to be a common complaint and I am starting to agree, Thank you for your feedback!

Submitted

It's a nice one. i like games where you can't rush it and you need to take your time.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! :)

Slow in the beginning. It takes a couple tries to get past the first 2 levels. Once you get a couple good upgrades then you can sail through the levels. Nice game.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

great art style and the UI design is great. would love where you could shoot in any direction using mouse to aim. Also would love an intense music in the bg for increasing tension in the survival environment.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words and feedback!

I'm kinda bias by giving you more rating because I originally like Django style game.

It's a shame that I can't upgrade between the levels and can't shoot diagonally.

It'd be nice if there is a clear line for player's restricted area.

I personally hate defending games. So having to defend the stand is a negative for me.

The artstyle, music, and sound are all good. Theme is direct. Story is a bit mid but it's fine.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! We came to some of these conclusions ourself after it had become too late to change :P
The lack of visual indication for the players movement boundaries is probably my biggest regret.

Submitted

Lots of fun. The mechanics you've implemented with the upgrades are great. I really enjoyed the hand drawn art style, and the little details like displaying the controls on the newspaper. Great job!

Developer

My teammate did all the art so I will pass on your kind words! Thanks for playing!

Really fun! Great aesthetic! The little guy is great, and I love how the lemonade stand breaks down as it gets damaged. Solid game. Now if only I could make thousands of dollars a day with a real life lemonade stand...

Developer

Haha, we didn't get around to balancing till the final day and some of the values are a little crazy. You wind up making thousands per wave in the later rounds. Glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted

Not too bad. I did almost quit after the first level because it seemed imposible, but the permanent upgrades saved it. In spite of the fact that you can only shoot 4 dir I still played it for about 20 min!

Good job guys!

Developer

Glad you didn't quit, hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

Fav one so far, I got kinda emotionally attached to the lemonade stand. Reached wave 11, and maxed out my upgrades lol. Great game!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted

This is fun! Love the art style. I only wish keeping the stand undamaged would give you more money, takes a while to upgrade to decent stats.

Developer

A bonus for keeping the stand undamaged is a great idea! Thanks for the feedback!

Amazing art and fun gameplay. I keep wanting to play more.

Developer

Thanks so much :)

This really brought me back to my childhood of playing armorgames on my papa's computer. The audio just needs some fixing and some music can help too

Developer

Thanks for playing! Appreciate the feedback!
