Yes, all sprites / tilesets were free assets on itch. Sfx, text boxes, particles, and mouse cursor were also free itch assets. I have linked the pages where I got all my assets in the description of the game.

A fun game that matches the theme well - although I've not managed to get past the second room yet :)

Very cute and fun game. I like the art style and the movement and shooting is dialed in really nicely. It provides ample challenge and is addicting to keep playing. I found that my bullets would collide with some of the cracks on the ground, which I'm not sure was intentional or not. Great work!!

Nice game, difficult but smooth gameplay nice work.

Very smooth controls and good feeling. Hard game indeed.

WOW really challenging game! I like this mechanic, maybe you can add some kind of level up :)

This is dastardly.....it's difficult to the point that you end saying "....just one more time.  I can do this" XD

Well done.  A really solid game with good mechanics.

Pretty cool and fun game I didnt make it too far but I can see how it could get addicting to want to keep getting better at. Well done. The visuals are very clean and it looks quite polished for a jam game.

Nice game. Loved the aesthetics, music and sounds. A little bit hard, but not unfair. Reaaly liked it!

Developer

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the game, thanks for playing!

I like the look of the game, but I am very bad at it. tried about 10 times and could not get past level 4.

Great job on making a game, keep it up!

Nice idea and a good approach to the theme!
It's really rewarding if you finally clear all enemies in a room :D
Had a blast playing!

Very cool! This reminded me a lot of the little arcade machine mini-game in Stardew Valley where you play as the little cowboy, shooting goblins or something. The little eyeball spawner things really added to the difficulty, but the walls being able to block projectiles also helped!

Great job overall!

Developer

Thank you so much! That was definitely an inspiration for this game, especially in the beginning when coming up with the basic gameplay ideas. Thank you so much for playing : )

Ahhh I'm so bad at this game!!! I know it's entirely my own fault, too! I can almost never get past the skeleton room (well I imagine they're skeletons, anyway, it's the third room) and never past the fourth room. I also get impatient in the spider room and end up losing there a lot of the time. I really, really tried my best!

It's fun though, and I super appreciate the auto-fire! I'd appreciate the dash too, but I keep forgetting to use it.

One thing to note, I think it would be helpful if the enemy projectiles were a different color from the player's and also the cursor, sometimes I mistook my own cursor for a lethal attack. That might also be a 'me' thing.

Thank you for the feedback! That's a great point that I hadn't considered, the cursor certainly does look like a projectile and I see how that can be a potential issue. I'm glad you thought it was fun despite the difficulty though! I'm currently working on a patch to make the beginning of the game a bit more forgiving :) I loved your game as well

This is really fun! The 1hp concept is interesting and makes it very intense, but the soft music/sfx balances it nicely so it never feels too overwhelming. The furthest I made it so far was room 4. I'm curious how many rooms there are in total, the screenshots look intense.

There was something I was colliding with in the 3rd room here that didn't look like I should be.

Minor issue aside I loved the game! I'm gonna play a bit more and see if I can get past room 4. Congrats on your first game jam submission!

Developer

Thank you so much for pointing this out! That is an embarrassing mistake, I will be sure to update that! That is the remnant of a collidable object I that I missed when cleaning up the levels. Thank you so much for playing my game!

Nice, challenging game. I like the consistently retro aesthetic.

Really awesome! Fun, tight gameplay, and perfect length for a jam. Keep making games!!

Developer

Thank you so much! I really loved your game as well and I'm looking forward to what you're working on next :)

A very difficult game indeed. I couldn't make it past the 3rd room after several attempts. I enjoyed the art style and the challenge. I did notice that some of the enemies would get stuck on the obstacles, which made some of them easy to cheese, but something you may want to consider working around in future games. Overall, you did a great job!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! The game might be a bit too difficult, so I'm working on patching the first few rooms so that they're more forgiving. And the collision definitely needs some work done as well. I hope you enjoyed the experience nonetheless, thanks for playing!
