Fun game! The only thing I would like to see is the BAM (I think it said) when you hit them with a lemon be bigger like comic book style. haha Great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback, it does say bam yeah we will definitely make it bigger after the jam

Developer(+1)

I wanted to make it bigger, but unfortunately we ran out of time so it ended up being left at the size it was when I put it in at the start. Will make it HUGE after the jam! >:D

Submitted(+1)

Fun theme and story! I enjoyed trying this game, though I think a defeated enemies counter could have improved the experience further.

Well done with managing to complete the entry in spite of the Github issues!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad you enjimmed it, we will definitely look into a counter and we have a large list of things we wanted to add that we had no time for. Thanks it was a nightmare, but it was worth it in the end.

Submitted(+1)

I like the minimalistics art style. Seems I am way too slow for the game, since I died often without even noticing why :-)

For me it would ease it up if the zombies would approach from further afar and maybe give some indication, that you are in immediate danger when they are near or behind you. But on the other hand, I am just whining for being too slow.

Nicely done.

Developer

We didn't get a lot of time for balancing, but the minimap shows the enemies before they get to you, I will look into further cues as a few people struggled with it so don't feel too bad. I didn't want to rely on a sound cue for it because of accessibility issues. I will be sure to mention the map use when we update, we had no time to add the rest of the dialogue scripts or a tutorial unfortunately.

Submitted(+1)

Loved the story, quite hard to make something consistently funny. Game play was good, would probably look at adding some features to the landscape and maybe some visual and cues for where and when zombies are close. Well done!

Developer

Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it. We will be adding some player and zombie damage cues and landmarks in the update after the jam.  The minimap shows the zombies so you can see them shortly before you get attacked, but I will look into some ideas for other hints as a few people didn't realize you can use it for that. I was trying not to rely on sound as a lot of people don't play with sound on or have a disability that prevents audio cues from being useful.

Submitted(+1)

It's not a bad entry! To me a counter is missing telling me how many zombies I've defeated; that way I have a sense of progress on how many there are left to discover the amazing surprise :)

Developer

A counter is a really good idea, after the jam we will see about adding one. Maybe the Lemon Wizard could comment on how many zombies have been killed every X amount of zombies rather than having a counter constantly on the screen.

There is an amazing surprise at 100 kills, and another at 500, but because we didn't have the time to do any balancing I don't think anyone will get that far. We'll be changing a lot with this game after the jam.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback! :D

I'm impressed the most by your UI design, especially the audio tab.

The gameplay loop is good. I'd wish that the map could be better decorated with maybe landmarks, sky background.

But overall, very solid. Good job on this one!

Edit: Also again, congrat on this submission! Apparently you guys lost a bit of work due to github issue. I don't think I would have recovered from that. Good efforts from both of you!

Developer

Thanks i'm glad you enjoyed it, landmarks are definitely one of the things we will be updating in the first update after the jam. Thanks for the UI compliment, it was a collaborative effort to make it look nice and actually work.
Yeah it was fairly stressful with random things missing and about 2 days of work lost. At a time when were almost at the end of the jam and should have been polishing.

Developer

"At a time when were almost at the end of the jam and should have been polishing" is a fancy way of saying "roughly 24 hours before the submission deadline", lol. >:D

Great story and intro.. really funny :)

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :D

Such a unique experience way different from other submissions. Keep up the good work! 🙂

Developer

Thank you! :D

Developer

Really glad you enjoyed it, we definitely will :)

Your project elicited the most chuckles from me so far out of all the submissions I've played haha :D The puns and writing in the intro to the story were hilarious and I would love to see where you continue to take the idea. Something about shooting lemons at zombies that I didn't know could be so fun.

I also saw in the forums about your GitHub corruption and am very glad you were able to restore to submit so I could enjoy your game!

Developer

It's feedback like that that makes me really glad that we managed to make the submission. Thank you so much for your comment, I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. You're Jimply the best! :D

Was drawn in by the title, and the starting write-up was really well done to set the stage for a humorous, fun game.

I think death as a corporate employee facing bureaucracy is a nice theme, and can see this being built on. In this iteration, don't think it was developed to its fullest potential.

It's a good thing that you mentioned the sound issue on the itch page. I promptly activated it. Though i must say, without your warning, i would not have figured out that there were additional tabs in the setting menu. The tabs were located too far in the left on fullscreen mode. Perhaps somewhere closer to the middle of the visual field would help!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

I completely agree that it wasn't developed to its full potential, 24 hours before the deadline Github corrupted our project so we had to revert to a previous version which unfortunately caused us to lose quite a bit of work that we had done. This mixed with the fact that this is our first game (I only started learning coding in October, and my team mate had only dabbled on and off with blueprints in Unreal before starting learning GDscript and the Godot engine with me in October) definitely held the game back more than we would have liked. It's something we plan on continuing working on after the jam though, so with more time I'm hopeful that we can turn it more into what we originally envisioned.

We have a lot of plans for this game for the future, and changing the location of the tabs in the menu is definitely something we will be doing for the first update.

This reminds me of the most amazing Lemon Party I went to recently.

Developer

I hope you jimembered to drink responsibly!

Hey you two! Nice work! Your game has a lot of personality and charm. I will definitely remember the humor!

I just want to congratulate your team on your submission. I know that Lazarus you had made a post on Day 8 indicating that your team was experiencing some problems with Git where your files got corrupted and at that time you thought you might not be able to submit. That was honestly heartbreaking to read and I couldn't get it out of my head. I just kept thinking "how harrowing! To work so hard and then have something like that happen!"

Well lo and behold, I see that LazarusCraven is a team member on this game and after doing some digging through some forum posts it sounds like the two of you were able to bring the game back from the dead! I'm really proud of you two for not giving up when facing that difficult situation.

Excellent job!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

I'm really glad our game left an impact, It's been really nice seeing how much people are enjoying the game so far. Honestly we did nearly give up over it, but I was determined to submit something after all that work. I'm still in shock that we managed to submit it, and also over the amount of people who are enjoying it.

Thanks for playing and the really nice message.

Submitted(+1)

yeah lemons are underrated, they even help  against zombies. nice work.

Developer

Very true, even Jim promotes them! Thanks for playing!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Lots of clever writing here, love the sense of humor. I'm also like the combination of 2D visuals with 3D gameplay. Great job!

EDIT: The game name and thumbnail are so eye catching! I couldn't not check this out.

Developer

Thank you! :D

Submitted(+1)

Amazing writing! The music is also very nice, for the one loop that it plays. :)

I want to love lil'Jim but... he frightens me more than the zombies. I mean, normally I like capybaras... there's just something unsettling about him...

What there is of the game is fun, but even though I unlocked a lot of health increases I couldn't actually see a health indicator anywhere. The radar is really helpful for noticing a zombie sneaking up on Jim, but limited enough in range to keep things tense rather than always knowing exactly where everything around you is.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

I agree with you about Lil' Jim, I think some people will love him and others will find him creepier than the zombies. Unfortunately, despite being his inventor, I am in the latter group. Fun fact: Lil' Jim was originally going to be a small red demon.

The health indicator is the ice cubes in the lemonade glass, when the ice has completely melted your health is gone. The lemonade is your XP bar, you level up every time you drink all of the lemonade. This was originally going to be explained through dialogue with the Grim Reaper (he was going to show up every time you leveled up so you could choose your upgrade) but unfortunately we ran out of time before we could add it. I'll add it to the game description.

Submitted

Ah, I see! I recognized that drinking the lemonade indicated gaining XP so I didn't consider that the icon as a whole was also showing health at the same time. That's really clever, now that I know. :)

It's a shame you didn't have enough time for more words of wisdom from the Grim Reaper, I love his letters!

Developer(+1)

Really glad you enjoyed the game, that was exactly what I was going for with the minimap. At least lil_jim is a friend, unlike the jim_reaper >:)

Submitted(+1)

Love the intro, and your page in general, haha! Witty writing, nice work :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! :)

Submitted(+1)

This took a lot of Jimagination to create! Great job on this! I had a lot of fun and the story is hilarious!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Your feedback has Jimply made my day. :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjimmed the game!

Submitted(+1)

Well done on your submission. I liked the gameplay, but wished there was a bit more feedback on shooting. I think with a few bits of environment art in the level it would be easier to orient yourself. The writing is very clever and funny. Good job!

Developer

Thanks!

I wanted to add lemon seed projectiles that fired from the Lemon Wizard, and some more dramatic movement from him but unfortunately we ran out of time. The same with the environment art. We will definitely be changing both of these things after the jam. :)

Submitted(+1)

The story and the limonade wizard are the best!

Good job here!

Developer

Thanks! The Lemon Wizard is Jimazing! >:D

Submitted(+1)

Game looks great and is funny too

Thank you! :D
