How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
It is a Gameboy style game, only 4 colors (At a time), and it takes place in a haunted mansion full of monsters on Halloween! So yeah its a bit spooky.

this is really great! i didn’t get too far yet though. i’m a little confused about buying things. there’s an item near the door in the shop that says 10, but i can’t figure out how to buy it.
i ran into a bug in the shop. after going through all of the dialogue with the shopkeeper, i pressed X when standing below and a tile to the right of the shopkeeper and the character just walked down and through the wall and then was stuck at the bottom of the screen where i could walk back and forth along the bottom of the screen but could not go back up into the room. i was able to reproduce this consistently.
Yeah accidently zipping is a big bug I'll need to work out.
as for the Shop you can't buy things your full on, so the health drop you couldn't buy.
oh, makes sense! i wasn’t sure what it was i just saw that i could afford it lol.
fantastic job on the game. congrats on 9th place!
Very solid Zelda clone, really got it's vibe and the music is good too. I did not went much far i think and had some anomalies like getting stuck on the wall, or getting enemies or the yoyo to get stuck, falling multiple times on the same hole (not sure if it was only the animation) and infinite firecrackers (which i don't know if it was intentional or not).
ZIPs and ZOOPs abundant, still loads of fun and such polishing I truly envy. Can't wait for the full release.
As amazing as your last year entry! Amazing work!
Ok, I am impressed! This is super expansive for a game made in a jam. Mechanics worked for me perfectly and aesthetics are well made including sound and animations. It really feels like an gameboy game. Well done!
By far one of my favorites from the jam! Incredibly complete package, and really evokes the feeling of the old portable Zeldas. The graphics, audio and gameplay are very well executed.
I think I might unfortunately have run into a bug that's blocking my progress: I've blown up a wall, but it seems the collision is still there and won't let me through:
Aside from that, there's also a few couple bugs with screen transitions triggering twice and such, but I bet you're aware of those, and these kinds of things are to be expected in jam games, so they didn't hinder my enjoyment in the least.
Had a whole lot of fun with this one, keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed the game so much!
btw that's not a bug, that room was gona connect later, but it was unused due to time restrains for the jam.
also the double transition was a bug I didn't have time to fix in the jam.
It feels like replaying those old zelda games should feel like. I'll be revisiting this quite often
That was cool! The art is proficient, the character designs are charming, and the soundtrack is simply excellent! The mechanics are highly competent, fleshed out, and fun to use. It's simply an overall great entry!
That was a cool GBJAM 12 splash screen!
There's a couple of sound balance problems. The item pickup sound, the spider jump sound, that noise when you hit the jumping gargoyle with the stick, and the pot breaking sound are all a good deal louder than the other sounds. It's a little irritating.
I know this is my own fault, but it's possible to open the menu and save the game after losing all of your health, softlocking the save.
I could be wrong about this, but it seems that, if the player is standing on two different moving platforms that are both moving in the same direction, it will add both of their speeds to the player's speed, making them slide off.
Fantastic! Great work!
Wow thats a lot of text! Thanks for finishing the game, Glad you enjoyed it so much!!
Yeah sorry for the Sound Balance, audio is not my strongest suit, I tried my best.
Also Wow, did not know about that softlock, gona need to address that, thanks for telling me! Guess I'll make the minimum starting health for a save 3, and stop pausing while dyeing.
Yeah the moving platforms is something I coded quickly in the last day. they apply velocity directly to the player. this is why play testing is important, but I didn't really have people to play test for me so I missed a few things.
Amazing game! The Link’s Awakening vibe is real and I loved it! Even the music is nice, very well done!
Thank you for playing! I wanted to try my hand at a zelda like for a while, and the theme just kinda pushed me to it. ForteXP's music is always a treat, so happy They helped me again this jam!
LOVE THIS GAME! it not only feels like a Zelda game, but it feels smoother than Zelda, and my hands just fell in love with the controls. definitely one of my favorite entries on this jam!
Glad you enjoyed it so much! Thank you for playing!
After getting the monster phone, it's a bit strange to go to the village for the first time and having tutorials by talking to people (the jump, the vase push) because we already know as player these kind of things that we have already done in the mansion to get here. i didn't find what to do after the shop and getting back in the mansion.
Else it a fun spookie zelda game ! great story telling, great pixel art and great music !
Thanks for playing! Yeah you start out able to go to town or the mansion, and I made the starting location kind of push you to the mansion first. the NPC teaching you how to play where my just righting throw away dialog, to fill the town a bit.
Awesome game! Really cool music (complex!) and as a whole totally hits the mark for nostalgia, on all fronts!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it! my friend ForteXP did all the music, I'm always happy to get to work with them.
Really fun little RPG! Excellent work on everything from the gameplay to the town which teaches you how to play. Great combat UX. Absolutely captured the soul of the Zelda games for me.
Thank you! I think getting the enemies to react in a good way is what sells the combat feel. I was playing link's awakening on my game boy as I was programing, so I'm happy I got it to feel right!
Excellent execution, reminds me of illusion of gaia! It should probably be clearer that ESC isn’t just a menu, it’s your inventory! It took me a long time to figure it out, after I unlocked the item that helps me get across holes
Thanks for playing! never played Illusion of Gaia, but a room mate of mine was all ways talking about it.
Yeah I should be more clear, menu has always just stuck in my head as an go to interface in games, so I though it would suffice sorry.
This is a total hit of nostagia for when I would play Zelda on long car trips in the 90s. Amazing job.
Playing on those old LCD screens in the car was almost impossible. the car turns and the suns no longer lighting up the screen UGH. so happy when back light screens became the norm.
Very cool game. but somehow I don’t know how to advance. I found the secret room with all the loot. and next to it there is a room with 2 rows of holes…how do I get across?
Won't spoil much, but you'll want to start by heading to the top right of the manor for the first power. There's some puzzles along the way
