Simple but fun game! I liked being able to pick your own car, and making a car game at all is a really cool way to do the two buttons modifier. the gameplay is also very satisfying because of all the sounds and effects

Developer

Thank you for playing :)

Really fun gameplay! The visual effect when cars explode is awesome and I like that I can choose different cars. Neat game!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and I’m glad you liked the effects :)

Submitted(+1)

Really fun ! A bit hard to understand how to properly hit car without losing but that part of the gameplay. The trail effect is really nice ! Good job !

Developer

I guess there could have been a tutorial which tells you how to properly destroy other cars, but I’m glad you enjoyed the game regardless

Submitted(+1)

Ahaha smashing cars is funnnnnnnnn… I liked it … Btw what was your high score.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I think my highest was around 22500

Submitted(+1)

This was fun to play., good work on this one.

Fun little title - good to see a few layered mechanics like the police following. Will admit the art itself didn’t stand out too much to me, though the design of the cars themselves were cute

Fun arcade style game. i have always loved car games like this and this one felt good! I would hope to see levels or maybe upgrades in round 2. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Well I have no idea how it would function as levels, but others have mentioned some upgrades… anyway, I’m glad you liked the game

Fun little game. The red and black car is my favorite, those are my colors. Great take on the theme. Just to nitpick a little, I would not mind a quick restart and keyboard controls for selecting cars and starting the game.

Developer

I tried to implement that but then it keeps changing the cars as you play the game, which looked absolutely hilarious xD, and by using booleans its still possible to end up with a different car as the frames update :/

Submitted(+1)

The car switching was an excellent touch!  And it's very satisfying to crash other cars haha.

Developer

I’m glad that you liked the game, what’s your favourite car?

Submitted(+1)

I love the ability to change the cars... i've been wanting to learn how to do that for some time!! Also the two buttons is such a good take with the game you made!!

Developer

It took me way too long to figure out what to make… and I’m glad that mostly everyone enjoys the game. I see that you made your project in Unity, so I have a few solutions:

  1. Create/delete each gameobject for every car/charather you cycle throught 2)Use animationController and make each character a seperate animation You can make it on the same scene, as the game is played on, probaby? If not you can use SharedPrefernces or PlayerPreferences, to carry over the ID, and then simply use that to create the charather that has been selected when starting the game

Took me a couple tries to figure out how to maneuver the car properly (I was just hanging out at the bottom of the screen previously... I don't think I've had enough coffee this morning...). Like another commenter noted, the controls are very tight and feel responsive, especially considering you can only turn. I was also reminded of Destruction Derby for the PS1.

Since you left some very helpful critical feedback on my game, I'd like to do the same for yours. I'd definitely like to see, if not a tutorial, some text or a graphic that explains that you need to hit as many cars as possible but avoid head-on collisions. Seems like it should be obvious, but initially playing it, it's hard to know why you died. Part of that is the size of the sprites, I think. I'd love to see them a bit larger. Not much, since it seemed like you're trying to crank up the number of cars on screen for the spectacle of it, but just a bit.

Speaking of spectacle, some polish notes that could help with that: I actually think you could slow down the collision animations/add more frames to the explosion to really sell that contact and make it super satisfying. I also think it would be cool to lean into the drift mechanic you've implemented and slow time juuuust a bit when the player has a near miss. Like let's say I'm about to get a head-on collision with another car and I drift out of the way at the last second. Would really sell the tension and spectacle.

Developer

Yeah… I definitelly agree there should be some tension seconds before disaster xD, and I haven’t thought about putting a tutorial because it was obvious and straightforward to me… Well players didnt make the game, so how would they know… Anyway, thanks for the feedback

Very dope entry. It reminds me of a game I used to play a bunch as a kid. I could see this as almost a battle royale game in the future that would be so much fun to play with friends! The only thing I might suggest is maybe a faster death and restart. I wasnt very good and died a lot so it might just be a skill issue lol.

Developer

I thought it looked cool this way, but I can certainly make the button appear a bit sooner

Submitted(+1)

Its very cool! It really may just be that Im bad at the game so I encountered it more often than most folks would.

Submitted(+1)

Great take on the two button mod. The car controls very well considering there’s no acceleration or braking. The art and animation are both great too. It might be cool if there was some more variation in the background. Maybe some puddles or grassy spots.

Developer(+1)

I was trying to make a tileset, but I’m not that good at them :/ but yeah, I could have added some decorations like grass patches and puddles

Hi. I like how you implemented the theme (reminds me "Destruction Derby" on PS1 ^^). About the game rules, I didn't catch when you are wasted or not. Also I would like to warp around the screen like the other cars (or like it seems to). All in all there is potential in your game and I had quite fun to play it !

Developer

You are supposed to avoid heads-on collision with other cars, and avoid contact with the police, I didn’t really thought of player warping around the screen.. I’ll play around and see if that makes the game more fun, or maybe add that as powerup?

Submitted

You are supposed to avoid heads-on collision with other cars
Alright, thanks, this is common sense after all ^^ I was not sure ! And lets keep the rest for the gameplay round ;) but yes, power-ups could be fine.

Fun game, I wonder if anyone can beat my score of 14180. I agree with what RicoTV said about the scale of the car. There is a lot that I like but I particularly liked how you can choose your car and how it drives from the menu screen. Also the cops were a fun challenge and reminds me a lot of the early top down GTA game. I think if you wanted to take the game further, some speed boost collectibles could be fun that makes you invincible from head on collisions for a short time

Developer(+1)

I’m glad you liked the game so much… I don’t know what to expect from round 2 so I kept the game relatively simple, so if we need to update our games, this is a really neat idea

Submitted(+1)

Solid game, it was a bit annoying as the other cars appeared to wrap around as the drove of screen (I know they didn't but it looks like it) and then when you as the player hit the edge is a bit of a surprise. It seems the player and police are slightly up scaled which for the player comes from the select menu (the menus are really good nice and juicy and interactive) i would scale the cars down to normal size as they do initial drive out. Another thing that has been made easy in Gdevelop in the last year is a leaderboard this obviously adds a lot to this kind of game so or you can local save a running best score fairly easily which is always nice for replayability :).

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank so much for really detailed feedback, but the car and police are scaled up cause just having a glow didnt really make them stand out that much… And I will look into leaderborards

Submitted

maybe try a transparent lighting effect with simple animation would make the police car pop out and look cool. I get what you mean about the player and could see you can lose it among the cars on screen.

Perhaps if it is helpful after the comp you and I can exchange or game files so we can take a look and learn bits off each other. I really like your smoke effect and trails 😎

Developer(+1)

I will try, and yeah I’m down to exchange files after the jam, as having a look into how to set up a leaderboard would help me out a ton…

Submitted

cool we are all here to learn 😎

Submitted(+1)

Fun! Steep learning curve lol, but becomes fun after a few tries. I especially like going into a drift and seeing the skid marks :)

Developer(+1)

I’m glad you liked it, what’s your favouritecar so far?

Submitted(+1)

I always go for green... Everything green!!
