I'd really love to see where you go with this! For now the crafting was kind of just "find the biggest thing you can make," but Io could see it adding a really interesting puzzle element to the rpg stuff! Cool idea!
Thanks! Yes, this is supposed to be the Tutorial Battle ( so that's the reason for so much dialogue and a slower pace) so it's correct that you need to understand "how big" (and in some cases Weird) you can go. Then, (I hope,) I will try to teach the player "how deep" we can go with the mechanics.
The idea is to add Elemental damages ( like Torches and Stoves) and increase the attack output creating a workbench that lasts until the end of the battle, and so on.
I will try to limit the hoarding of materials and use it to challenge the player.
Love the GameBoy styling, Clever mechanics too, not what I expected, and funny too! 😁 Curious to see where you go with it. I honestly have no criticism, this is cool.
Thanks! I will need to address some errors and remake some code, using the TileSwap for better visuals and avoiding some GameBoy limitations. Then, I will improve the strategic part of gathering materials by stealing (Avoiding hoarding too many materials) and adding more complexity (Like elemental damages, status effects, increasing the stats, etc.)
This game took me back to the kind of games I played in my youth. The game is very clever and funny. I enjoyed the turn based combat. I hope you get a chance to build upon this.
Thanks! The nostalgic charm of the GameBoy is unbeatable :D
Love the comedy story!! Enjoyed the art and would like to see what you do next with this!
I'm glad you liked it! I hope I can meet your expectations!
The crafting mechanique is really clever, I can see it giving the player a lot of choice of action during their turn with each craft doing something unique. The dialogue was is aslo really entertaing. Congrats on making my favorite game of this first round and I hope to see your works on the next rounds.
I'm glad you liked it! Although the game is still barebones, I hope to pass the round and explore the mechanics further.
The game is comedy gold and narratively very amusing, I REQUIRE MORE. I also see some potential in the turn-based combat itself. I think it doesn't require that much strategic thinking in the demo as it is, but I can definitely see that happening in the future versions of the game.
Thanks for the kind words! The game is rough now, but I hope to improve it as I improve my skills. It's only my first GameJam, after all...
Such an epic story, visuals and design on the game. The gameplay itself is also very creative, I like it a lot!
The cutscenes are entertaining, but I was kinda confused sometimes when they said "now its my turn" cause I thought it was "me as the player" :P
Very cool, well done!
Thanks for the kind words and also for the feedback.
I've used a pointer to highlight the active character (or the one speaking) but forgot the black outline, so it's easy to miss.
I will also change the dialogue to fit the context. Thanks.
Crafting objects to attack with was a cool idea and the game was fun. I really liked the GB art style, it looked great. I definitely would love to see more of this game.
I'm glad you liked it! It can also run on the original hardware (btw, the thrown items are too small, I will need to fix it...). That console still has some untapped potential, I will try to squeeze it. :D
That is cool that it works on a real GB. I looked into some of those GB editors, they look great I just need to commit to making a small game and see how it goes. The GB aesthetic lately has been enticing to me.
GB Studio is easy to use when you understand its limitations (colour palette, sprite size, etc.). It's also good for prototyping or laying out simple concepts.
That is one of the two I narrowed it down to. I'll check it out, thanks!
So much fun!
I absolutely adore the Gameboy monochromatic colours. The gameplay was charming, and the narrative was well written. I also loved the breaking of the fourth wall with the recipe book :D
Only thing missing for me was music, but that's a larger scope for a bigger project. What you implemented here aligned with the Jam Task very well!
Great job!
Thanks for the kind words. Music ( and audio/sound effects) is not my cup of tea and must be improved.
An interesting mash up of genres to be sure. The narrative elements were very clear and the mechanic worked well for the situation at hand!
Glad you liked it!
Art was cute, the controls were unclear to me initially even though it was explained lol. i just randomly hit buttons and then the game progressed. Small game but fairly fun !
Thanks for the feedback, I will add some reminder of the controls in-game next time.
Very unique idea! And a very well written scene!
I'll be waiting for a continuation ))
Glad you liked it!
Good dialogue and I love how we just stole everything from the guards to throw random stuff at them! Crafting in the middle of a turn-based combat is an interesting idea.
Yes, that's the spirit! :D
Nice job on getting the RPG fundamentals down. You have a knack for writing I think, some of that dialogue was very funny. I think that your combination of crafting and RPG battles is cool. Nice work!
Thanks! This is my first jam so getting feedbacks is extremely useful for me. Also not a native English speaker so i feared the dialogue could fall flat, and so on.... With extra time I would love to add some other battles and at least a little boss battle...
