Really nicely done :)

Good job!  I thought the dodge and shoot back mechanic was a really good idea!  It would have been nice to have an indicator of when my spin was ready, and I think the shoot back mechanic could have been leaned into a little harder since it felt a little optional, but was really fun, but I liked what you did and thought it was a really good idea!

Developer

The spin actually does have an indicator! When it's ready, your ship will pulse and turn yellow briefly. Maybe it was too subtle, I'll look into it. And you're right about the shoot back mechanic, I might do something experimental with that and see if I can make it more useful. Thanks for the feedback!

The turrets were rather easy as the vertically moving ones could be dodged by moving close enough to the boss, and the horizontally moving ones had too many gaps for them to be any difficult. I only managed to get one upgrade because I was prioritizing health, but I couldn't really get any progression from it, but not going to dock points for that because skill issue.

Cool mechanics! Well done! ;D

Fun but there are some spot where you can go where robot will not hit you and you can safely hit robot.

Fun! top-down shooter formula with roguelike upgrades is a neat combo

Perfect title and sound effects.  Movement felt responsive.  This feels like the start of a really fun game.  Well done.

This is a good prototype and I firmly believe you can make this a bigger game if wanted. Great job.

The game is fun, I think different bosses would have helped the feeling of progression. But otherwise I think the top down shooter with upgrades works well and is a fun concept.

I actually am planning at least two more bosses along with making the first boss have more varied attack patterns! I'll implement them in the next update after the jam. Thanks for the feedback!

I played a few times and accidentally figured out that you must shoot the powerups to buy them. It worked for me once I did that. That being said, with some additional bosses that have different attack patterns this could have potential.

I would have liked to see some form of health bar to know that I was doing damage to the boss. I know the color changes to represent that, but for the first 10 seconds of shooting, I felt like I was doing no damage to the boss. If you don’t want to put a health bar, then I’d at least add some type of flash animation to the boss or particle effect to the bullets so it’s clear that they are hitting the boss and not just going past.

Developer

Yeah, I didn't make shooting the power ups so obvious lol I'll make sure to fix that along with a bunch other fixes

I was planning a second boss actually! But I ran out of time cause of my poor time management skills. As for the damaging the boss, I was actually thinking about making a health bar for him, but I didn't want the UI to obscure the player or the boss, so I thought about making the boss blink too. I was all in my head about it and ultimately didn't do anything about it, but after the jam, I'll decide on something. Thanks so much for the feedback!

The idea is fairly simple, but I imagine it makes up for that with the upgrades! Unfortunately  I wasn't able to get them to work no matter how hard I tried. Top-Down movement is always fun! Would love to see more attack patterns and variations through rounds in the future!

Edit: I forgot to mention, the art is really charming!

Developer

Thanks so much! I will deff have more bosses, more power ups and more weapons in the future, but first I'll definitely fix the power ups not working. Thanks for trying it out!
