this must have been hard to make if it were me id do a tiny bit and end up getting distracted lol

Developer

Thanks! I think the game jam environment really helps with focus. When everyone else is trying to get something  out the door in 48 hours, it helps to know you're not alone. I also try to remove all distractions for the whole weekend. Makes for a great opportunity for rapid learning

I cool play in the sandbox mode for hours

Developer

So glad to hear! Included it because  I was feeling the same way haha

Thanks for playing!

It's really cool, the mechanic is interesting and puzzles are well done - I just wish there was more!

There is a few small things, like the UI design and spheres aren't really spherical, the levels are pretty sparse - which is totally understandable for a game jam and I think the work was put where it counts, definitely one if not the best game I played during this jam.

And the sandbox mode is a nice touch, love it.

Developer

That's so awesome to hear! Thanks so much!

Keep your eyes out for the post-jam update coming this weekend :)

Wrap liquids around spheres? Why not!

Developer

I can't think of a single reason not to!

Great physics ! Fluid dynamics open to so many gameplay possibilities, it's a great base for building a portal like game ! I think the sphere is not the best gameplay element for this kind of game, the behaviour of the fluid around it is quite difficult to predict, and moving it by an inch can completely change the path it will take. But as you adapted the level design to it, it still works really well !

Developer

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed the physics and gameplay. I'm planning to keep working on it so thanks for the note on spherical sensitivity

This game is visually stunning and the fluids work great I would love to see this expanded on in the future great work!!!

Developer

Yay! Thanks! I'm hoping to!

The fluid sim is amazing! Also the mix of colors is absolutely beautiful.

For a little bit of feedback - I didn't think dying was a useful mechanic since it's about puzzle solving. I wish I fell into a pit I had to climb out of instead of starting over. Also, it'd be cool to have more platforms to move around on since jumping to place the vortices was difficult to control.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! And that's a really good point on the dying mechanic and adding some platforms and height variety is a great idea too

Oooooh this one is so cool! Having an audio cue when you open the gate would be nice, as I was walking around for a while on one of the early levels before realizing I had solved the puzzle ages earlier lol. But other than that, this is a pretty game with interesting puzzles, but also not so many that you get overwhelmed. The fluid physics worked out really well and just made this a great experience! Thanks for making your game!

Developer(+1)

Yay! So happy you enjoyed the game and glad it felt balanced in that way. You're totally right about the audio queue.

Thanks for playing!

This is super cool! I've never played a game with fluid physics like that before, and this game does a good job of giving you fun tools to interact with the liquids. They also look great, absolutely mesmerizing. And they act super realistically too! It would be nice to see some levels that are a little more challenging and explore the properties of the fluids more, I definitely wanted more.

Developer(+1)

You're my hero! Thanks so much for leaving this comment. I'm really excited you had that experience :) I'm hoping to make more soon!

Really cool stuff! Love the fluid dynamics, really impressive stuff. The game does fall a bit short on the visuals/sound side tho, some more signs/feedbacks would be appreciated (like clearer indications on which ball does what, some sound when the level is complete, etc... Still, quite fun to play around in!
I also made a portal-inspired game, feel free to check it out if you want to!

Developer

Thanks I appreciate it and the thoughts on areas for improvement! I'll check it out!

It’s quite nice to look at and all, but the mechanics are a bit finicky. It’s difficult to get the streams to behave in a reasonable way, and especially on the map with the gap in it, to me it wasn’t clear at all how the player was supposed to get the fluid across. The spheres don’t stay where you put them if you have any motion whatsoever when you left click, so they have a tendency to float away and then you have to reset the entire level.

All in all, it comes across as more of a tech demo than a game, but it was still fun to play around with. Would be nice if there was some more stuff custom to the game on top of just the materials.

Developer

Thanks for the play and comment! I'm glad you liked the aesthetic

You were really close to solving that level. The trick is to use the motion of the balls to your advantage. As with the previous level, the drain just needs a few more drops for a moment

Cool idea, love the fluid physics. Would have been cool to see some non-default art and some more feedback, such as an indication for when you've successfully completed the level. Nice work!

Developer

Thanks! I agree those would be great additions

Woh, those fluid simulations look really neat. I had a little bit of difficulty figuring out how to move the cube around to join the two screens. The movement felt a little too quick and sporadic for such chill gameplay. It looks really cool though!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! And thanks for leaving a comment. That's a really good point. Maybe it would have been more intuitive if the gun looked more like a "grabber" and I agree  on the quick movements. Hopefully the cube will mellow-out if I have it snap into the players hand more slowly

That was a really satisfying play. After completing the puzzles, I built myself a whirlpool in the sandbox (a.k.a. enclosed a fluid source with cubes) which ended up actually working. Did you implement the fluid dynamics from scratch during the jam?

Developer(+1)

Yay! Satisfying was the goal! Nice job on the whirlpool, I'll have to give that a try

The fluid dynamics and shaders come from NVIDIA Flex. I already had the custom build of UE4.18 installed so the work during the jam was learning to use and customize it in Unreal's particle system.

Game was a very good look into fluid mechanics in something like unreal. And Also puzzle design for this sort of thing.

Developer

Thanks! I wanted to try out a specific fluid simulation package and it's integration with unreal and I'm really happy the theme allowed for it

VERY pretty game, the gravity mechanic is pretty fun as well. It would've been nice if there was some kind of audible or visual GUI indicator that you solved a room though, sometimes I just walked around in a room and the door was open.

Developer

Glad to hear it worked on the visual and fun levels :) Good suggestion!

There are a couple subtle changes like the drain will stay lit up if your solution stays over the threshold and the door will change to the word "open" but I agree audio and GUI would make it more clear

Really love this game, amazing concept with fantastic execution

Developer

Thanks and thanks for leaving a note! I just downloaded Glass Kiwi and am looking forward to giving it a try

Submitted(+1)

Super cool effect with the fluid, very interesting idea. We can recognize the default gun of Unreal Engine though ;-)

Developer

Thanks! I guess that's the downside of making a game for developers haha

Submitted

Yeah, we are the hardest crowd to impress haha, but you can't go wrong with Unreal. You did well don't worry :-)

Developer(+1)

That's great to hear :) I just downloaded Grabball, it looks like you have the honors of being my first UE5 game :)
