Didn't realize the first time I thought I had completed a pattern that my molecule was oriented the wrong way, so I had to scramble to rebuild it mirrored before the time ran out. It was a lot of fun, good job!

Developer

Yeah, the orientation shouldn't matter really, in a later update after the jam I will fix it.

I loved the game! I've been playing for 30 minutes straight, it's super addictive, and I got to a 208 high score.

In my opinion the movement is fine as it is. I've seen other people say you should be able to move more freely, but I think the fact that you have to coordinate both vertical movement and rotation to get the atoms to hit where you want is genius, as it is that you have to mind the correct orientation and that both main mechanics (making and breaking bonds) can be both good and bad depending on *where* it happens.

It is a very challenging game. It gets very hard very fast, so you could tweak the number of atoms or their hitbox (maybe the clock?) to get a difficulty curve a little more smooth. I also found it pretty punishing when you get atoms where you don't want them, as they quickly bump into others and it gets more and more out of control. However, the game also lets you recover and start from scratch if you manage to break the right bonds in the middle of the chaos.

To be honest, this is the best game I've played in this jam to this point. I hope you get to the top 20!

Developer

Thank you SO MUCH for the super kind words! I think 208 is the highest I've seen anyone get (if I don't count myself, my highscore is 599). It does get out of control pretty easily, and I will do some tweaks after the jams to see if I can make it feel like the player has more control. And once again THANK YOU!

Developer

Because you seemed to enjoy my game so much, I'm just telling you now that I just published an update with some polishing fixes and a bit faster movement speed, to hopefully make it a bit easier.

Submitted

Great idea for a concept! Maybe let the player also move sideways. I loved the aesthetics and the music.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! My sister (13 years old) made the art! (I'm 17 btw)

Submitted

That is impressive. I enjoyed playing your game very much. Big compliments to both of you ^_^

I love the idea! This would also have fit quite well with the "out of control" theme as it gets a bit chaotic when the molecule is so big you're picking up every atom that goes across the screen. I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this but it would be nice if it was a bit easier to break off branches (although having everything done by hitting atoms is a good concept in my opinion). Also it would be nice if the game wasn't quite so pedantic about which way up your molecule has to be for it to count as correct, there were some times when I had the correct shape but the molecule I was meant to be copying was a different way up, which was quite annoying. Overall great though! I was able to get a score of 144 before giving up.

Edit: I forgot to mention that just making the biggest molecule possible was really fun, maybe that could be a goal or a different game mode?

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for all the feedback! The rotation will get "fixed" in a later update, and I will tweak the hitboxes further to make it easier. Making the biggest molecule possible could definitely become it's own gamemode too.

This was an interesting idea. I would have liked to be able to move more freely and for atoms to come from more directions since I felt like I wasn't much in control. Anyway, the game was still very fun and the idea has potential.

Developer

Thank you! I will do some improvments after the jam :D

Submitted

Nice work :)  I wish there was an easier way to remove or undo a connection, but overall I had fun.

Developer

Thanks! I will work on some improvments after the jam.

Submitted

Really nice idea, the music is pretty good and fits the game, the only thing is breaking the links is very hard the atoms keep adding instead of breaking the link, other than that its a very cool concept

Developer

Thanks, the game can be a bit tricky at times.

Submitted

I am really bad at this game, but I think the mechanic is really cool. I had lots of fun just making giant molecules. Nicely done!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it!

Cool puzzle game

Developer

Thank you!

Super original and incredibly enthralling. Absolutely sucked me in and kept me engaged! i particularly love the challenge of avoiding the molecules as your main atom grows

Developer

Thank you so much for the positive feedback! What score did you manage to get?

Very original concept-- I especially like how you can break molecule chains by letting other molecules hit the connections. I wish I had more control of my main molecule though, especially when it came to the more complicated patterns I was constructing.

Developer(+2)

Thank you for the feedback. It does get very hard pretty quickly, but I still managed to get a highscore of 599, so it's absolutle possible to get pretty far.

fun game to play! great work u have here keep it up!

Developer

Thank you for the positive feedbackI will do an update after the jam with improvments.

Rather tricky, but once you figured it out it goes okay :) similar theme to my game^^

like the art and music!

Developer

Thanks!

We both went for atoms joining into molecules, but in very different ways ! Your game is really fun and very pretty, good job!

Submitted(+1)

This is such a cool idea! Found it quite difficult, but it was definitely fair – I knew exactly what was about to go wrong (either having a segment destroyed or accidentally attaching a bunch of particles) and how to stop it, but I just wasn't fast enough to actually do it! Difficulty has a really nice, natural scale and the art design was absolutely perfect for this kind of game

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

Submitted

Cool concept! Game can get very punishing if you screw up though, everything just starts barreling out of control as your molecule grows bigger and bigger.

Developer

Maybe this game could've been in last year's jam too hehe

Submitted

Damn molecues out of control AHHHH

Submitted

this was way to well made for 48h ;)

the difficulte scales very naturally.

maybe some indication for the next molecule after you finish the current one would help or atleast a freeze frame

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I will do an update after the jam with improvments.

I enjoyed the game! However, the mechanic for destroying segments wasn't very clear.  What if you had anti-particles that floated around as well to provide both an explicit means to reset your molecule but to also add to the challenge of dodging unwanted atoms.

Developer

It does say in the tutorial that the connections gets destroyed when an atom hits it, I thought about having seperate cutting particles, but I considered the gameplay to be more interesting when having a single atom to do everything (both adding an cutting.)

Submitted

Ah I see. Not sure if it quite worked because if the player is attempting to connect to the atom but ends up destroying a connection by accident, it isn't as satisfying.  Whereas if you had a antiparticle or "delete atom" it would be clearer and more consistent in terms of what to expect in each collision.

Developer(+1)

Yes, it would. But I think it's part of the charm that things get a bit chaotic and that one atom is useful for two things.

Submitted

Fair enough.  Overall great job!

Submitted

Very entertaining! My only thought is that you may want to make it so that would don't need to have the same rotation at the atom you're making. Additionally it was a bit frustrating being unable to move to either side, which probably is just me as I like top down games. Otherwise it's very fun and pretty addicting.

Developer

I will do an update after the jam that makes it so it isn't so picky about the rotations.

Submitted

Haha loved it.

when your atom goes out of control it's maddening to see it get bigger and bigger knowing you have to try and break the segments off

absolutely love it!

Developer

Thank you!
