Incredibly polished with gorgeous menu navigation and a ton of juice! I had quite a hard time getting a hang of the controls, though. The fact that the background doesn't scroll when you move makes it really disorienting to judge the relative distance between the ship and the meteors. But that might just be a me problem. Overall, great work!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the review! The background was supposed to scroll in a parallax effect, but definitely could be improved further, along with the controls. Thanks for playing, the feedback is really useful!

This game doesn't even feel like a game jam game given the amount of polish haha. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The polish took a lot of work, glad you liked it!

A lot of ship block-building games out there, but yours is really well done. Polished and is a lot faster pace than the others. Love the UI.

Developer

Thanks for playing our game! The polish and UI took a lot of work, so I'm glad you liked it.

Starship Scale is a blast—literally! This rogue-like shoot-'em-up is incredibly polished, with top-notch visuals and awesome effects, like the laser lights and explosions, that really make the game pop. The core mechanic of scaling up your ship as you blast through waves of enemies is super satisfying, and I had way too much fun (and frustration) trying to survive.

The only thing that bugs me is the delay before entering the shop—definitely slows down the pace a bit. But honestly, I spent way more time playing this than I expected because it’s just so addictive. I really can see this as a top-100 contender. Great job on this one!

Developer

Many thanks for the kind words! We definitely could have improved the difficulty curve given more time for testing, but I'm glad you enjoyed the game. Definitely hoping for top-100! 🤞

I've seen a lot of similar games over the game jams I've participated in, but this one managed to get more fast paced than most, which is really nice. I think the camera could have been a bit more zoomed out to make it easier to see enemies incoming, but that put aside, the game plays really well, and the graphics are pretty cool. Well done !

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

The camera zooming out with the ship's size was a common suggestion which would have been good to add if we had more time. That will surely be important when we work on the game for a further release.

Glad you liked the pacing and design!

At the beginning, I thought about creating something like this, good game btw

Developer

Thanks!

A little difficult to control but great idea and execution nevertheless.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the review! The ship control is definitely one major reconsideration for when the game is expanded upon.

Submitted(+1)

Cool Idea with the ship scaling!

Developer

Thanks!

Had a great time with this one! The challenge of moving towards your aiming direction was rewarding to master, and the despawning health packs created a nice risk-reward. It was fun to try all the upgrades and the scaling system was quite well-implemented. Though I didn't have much reason to upgrade beyond the 1st stage, as my ship was already quite survivable and would be more at-risk with a larger hitbox. Also, would've liked to see my hitpoints somewhere on-screen. Very pleasant UI and overall presentation with quite appealing sound design.

A very fun game with a good overall concept! Cool interpretation of the theme too :)

Thanks a lot for playing and reviewing!

Upgrading would make the ship bigger, but also unlocks damage reduction and health regeneration modules as compensation, so it mostly balances out. As for showing the health on screen, there might have been an issue with the game's screen size but in the top-left corner, there should be a health display.

Glad you liked the challenge and design!

Submitted(+1)

Ah! Definitely could've been a screen size thing. I've had loads of issues with that in the past.

Very nice game, the music and sfx are very good, only little problem I had is that the camera is a bit jittery but it's no big deal, great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and reviewing. The camera jitter was definitely a known issue but we chose to prioritize other things. Appreciate the feedback!

I like the start screen! At first I kept taking so much damage I didn’t have time to open up the shop. The concept is interesting but health pack spawning felt quite inconsistent. I liked being able to upgrade my ship, but would have liked to keep parts I already paid for previously.

I love the graphics, the sfx and the layout of the HUD. However it was a bit frustrating to play when I kept dying after making big upgrades. The game looks very polished and the upgrade mechanic is very cool.

Overall the game was a pretty fun game! Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

The difficulty balancing and saving of the currently built ship before upgrade would have definitely made the gameplay significantly more player-friendly but we would have needed more time in the jam to implement those things and test.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Loved the style of the game! Building the ship feels really satisfying!

Developer

Thanks!!

This game is awesome. Very satisfying to play, very well-polished -- even though I can't get past three minutes.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The difficulty curve could have definitely been improved.

Submitted(+1)

Very polished but also I struggled to control the ship without slamming into asteroids, haha.

Developer

Glad you liked the polish! The controls were definitely challenging, but that was to encourage more action and dodging 😊

Submitted(+1)

Es un juego muy divertido y frenético, con mejoras y personalización de nave. Muy bien diseñado todo, felicidades!

Gracias!

This is super polished for a game jam game, nice job! I loved the music and sfx so much, and the visual style was great as well. Nice job!

Developer

Glad you liked it!

Developer

thank u!!! ❤️

Submitted(+1)

This is amazing already! Music and visuals work nicely and it plays very well!

Developer

Many thanks!! The audio guys really elevated the feel of the game.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

That was very pleasant experience!
I've seen several game which had the similar idea. But this game has the most polished and coolest implementation so far!
So many sexy details, like red transparent laser which helps to aim!

Grumpy note: make ship follow cursor and place "Buy menu" button on the screen which pressable by cursor is cursed :)

Very cool! One of not many entries which I want to play not just because it's a game jam entry but because it's a nice game! Take "high five" stars!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing and reviewing! The polish, building, and lighting took a lot of time and hard work, so we're glad you liked it!

We did mention TAB to open shop in the guide screen, but we definitely could have been more clear about that shortcut.

Really appreciate the kind words and rating!

Submitted(+1)

Oh, shoot. My bad then about TAB button. I thought about Esc during the game but it was pause menu.
Maybe a little (Tab) on the button will help in future :)

Anyway, that was cool to play! Stop by to play our submission if you'll have a moment to spare.

Declaring this game as one of the best from the jams would not be a doubt because it's a game with complete features, art style, mechanics and clever ideas linking to the theme.

It will be an ho our if you play and rate my game as well.

Developer

Many thanks for the kind words! I will definitely play your game too.

Submitted(+1)

I suck at these kinds of games, but I like the upgrade system!

Developer

Thanks for playing!
