A solid game that became quite hectic the further in you got. Throwing the cleavers felt really satisfying and the random chaos of micromanaging your shift and space added to the gameplay.
The only feedback i have is that i would love to see more monsters/skills perhaps as the game went on.
Well done!
A fresh breath of air from all the dice only themed games. My highest score was 56K, want to see if anyone has beaten that. My only critique is that my throwing knives would get lost into the void most of the time and I don't think it was because I throw them to the edge (unless I did). 5/5.
This is a very fun game, and a unique take on the theme. I love the art and the music, the fast-paced music really helps the game. It's fun to watch things become more and more chaotic, and the variable attack range makes for a lot of fun where you have to move differently depending on your attack. I could see myself playing this game for an unreasonable amount of time. The only issue I found was your knife throw sometimes doesn't work when you are standing by the edge of the board. Great game!
Yeah, I noticed that bug way too late to fix. I'm sorry about that, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This was pretty fun! Exactly my type of game. It makes you really addicted.
Some things I'd tweak given the type of game:
This is essentially having you focus so much on the player that I'd put the coolDown bars of the space bar move, and the shift move as a bar right above the player, so you don't have to look away.
Apart from that, really solid, easily addicting game.
That's a great idea. It was an issue I noticed early on but I was too worried it would clutter the chaotic screen if I put those sliders any closer. I should've thought of displaying it on the character somehow. Maybe even an sfx at least to know when the cooldown ended. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Honestly incredible game, especially in just 48 hours. I could see myself buying this on steam and playing it for hours!
114,950! Wonder what people have managed to score.
I genuinely found this super fun, might come back to try again later. I thought of sushi dicing too but wouldn't have managed the art for it so I'm really glad such a great implementation of the idea was made!
There's always going to be features and mechanics to add in a Jam game, so all I'll say is that I wish the throwing knives didn't disappear on hitting the walls - sometimes I'd throw them and be too close so I'd just lose my knife. Also, maybe we could know our D6 roll before we use it so we can plan our next move better (though I realise that is less random!)
OMG! I can't even beat my own high score. I got that once and haven't reached it again. That's amazing.
Yeah the knife thing was a bug I caught too late. Sorry about that.
As for the D6 roll, I wanted the player to take a risk. How deep are you willing to dive into danger in case lady luck screws you over? I tested knowing your roll early in development but it was a very different game.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it
Really fun game with an original concept! I got a highscore of 133200 points. The d4 feels a bit overpowered, though (especially when spamming the d6 attack) - one suggestion I have is decreasing the chance of getting the invincibility and health power-ups, and also maybe adding a small chance of rolling a debuff (e. g. slowing down). Anyways, good job!
I am floored. I almost want to get an AWS server and make an actual leaderboard. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I'm amazed you survived so long.
I actually almost reduced the chances of getting invincibility because it's pretty worthless in the early game until I realized it is the best power up in the late game when you start drowning in Nigiri. I hate RNG as much as the next guy but ngl it does create great ebbs and flows in chaotic gameplay.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it that much!
Nice concept! It is pretty fun to play, and i like the artstyle and audio. One thing that annoys me is the wall of text, people usually don't want to read that, so maybe make an interactive tutorial. Here's a video about that:
Hope the feedback helped you a bit, maybe you could also check out our game, thank you! :)I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I'm so sorry about that wall of text. A good tutorial is always essential but unfortunately the time limit was getting too close and I didn't have enough time to do anything but a wall of text. Thanks for the kind words and the advice though. I generally should've considered the tutorial from the start instead of panicking at the end.
No problem! Now you knoe for next time! :)
Cool Game !
The visuals are really neat & cute !
The fact that your range is tied to your roll dice is very original but do lead to a very random play since you never know if you're gonna hit or not. The use of specials seems to balance that a bit though.
All in all a pretty solid entry. good job :)
The sprites are adorable and the game is fun, but a personal nitpick is that there's no reason for the player to wait on using the d6 attack. If anything, I feel like the dice should automatically activate and roll on their own. But I'm excited to see more of your work! Great work!
The sprites are really cute! Love them, especially the sushi roll sprite. I like how you inverted the theme but still kept the original theme in mind. A suggestion that you probably already have in mind is adding more buffs when you roll. Of couse with the time limit of the gamejam one can only implement so much. Hope to see this game idea expanded in the future! Good job :)
Beautiful looking game with great soundtrack! If it were me though, I'd maybe put the random factor on the type of pickup you get from the item or something like that. I also felt the cooldown kills the flow a little. Just keep chopping and maybe increase enemies to balance?
Definitely not bad, I usually say if I can play a game jam game for about 5 minutes or longer it's pretty good, and I played this for a little bit. It's simple, and I feel like the controls could have been simplified. Good job.
Very nice game! It looks and sounds great and gameplay is enjoyable. It would be nice to have some collision for tables and be able to kill enemies that spawn while your still attacking. Anyway, good job!
Yeah the spawning thing was a bug I didn't have time to fix. It's as simple as changing Unity's "OnTriggerEnter" to "OnTriggerStay" but I caught it too late. Table collision made the game significantly harder since you had fewer places to dodge to. It was going to be featured if I had time to make more levels but alas, 48 hours is a bit too tight. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Great game! I love the art and concept a lot, it is very unique!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Creative and funny way to use the theme.
Couldn't move at first, but restarted the game then it worked.
I'm glad you got it working. I can't seem to replicate the no movement issue. Apparently someone else had it too. I'm assuming this was a problem with the Web build, not the downloadable exe, right?
Yeah the web build. I think it just happens randomly at this point, I've seen others have the same problem on other games and a restart fixes it. Both for unity and other projects.
Kudos on the music, it's great.
I am really impressed by how well made your mechanics are, everything feels good and dice mechanic constantly forces you to think ahead. What do I do if I get a low roll? Combined with cleaver mechanic to keep you afloat when things go awry and you have a solid basis for gameplay.
I think that given a bit more time this could've been a lot more then just an endless fighting game. Perhaps an streets of rage-esque game or more of a fast paced call of duty zombies idea, regardless, good stuff!
Thanks for the wonderful review. Trust me, I wish I could've added so much more but the time limit was getting too close. For a while I was terrified that this wasn't enough "game" to publish. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I like the idea, but i can't move :c
I'm sorry about that. Apparently someone else had the same issue and restarting fixed it. I can't seem to replicate the issue on my end but if the issue continues in the browser, try the downloadable windows build instead.
I found the abilities quite interesting.
I love the spin on the theme for this. So creative. And fun gameplay too!
