Developer

Thanks for playing !!!

Very nice presentation and cool concept. There's loads of potential here. Need a bit more info on what does what. Overall great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you !!!
We didn't  have time for a tutorial even though it would have been a lot of help.

Really nice concept, loved it. The randomness of the dice is nicely balanced with the strategic approach, avoiding an easily frustrating effect.

Congrats !

Developer(+1)

Thanks !
Yes ! We wanted to reduce the randomness of the roll.

Nice Game!

Very cool game, super impressed that you pulled that off in 48h! This could really be made into a full-fledged indie with some polish. The intervall between player turns (watching the enemy) can be a bit long though (nitpicking, i know :P).

Developer

Thank you.

It isn't that nitpicky. It would be a huge improvement of quality of life.

This is such an inventive entry! Creating land for your little dudes to run over is a super engaging concept and the camera following is a really nice touch too! Also your art is fire! Great work :)

Developer

As the artist, thank you so much !
I'm glad you liked it !

The art looks amazing, unique approach for the theme and interesting concept. GG

Developer

Thank you for playing !
I'm glad you had fun and found my art cool !

Great job on the art! Loved the little enemy sprites.

Developer

This is the artist speaking : thanks !
The tininess has a lot of charm doesn't it ?

Submitted(+1)

The concept and gameplay were really impressive! Great game!

Developer

Thanks for playin !

I love the gameplay and the creative idea. It took some time to get used to, and the dice unfolding animation sometimes plays while it clips into the map, though.

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive amount to get done in the time limit! The art and this concept of slowly building out the landmass of your kingdom with magical random dice rolls is great!

A "fast forward through enemy turns" button would be handy (although hey, there's always things in a jam there's not time for)

Nice one!

Developer

Like you said ! There always things you cannot do in  a Jam...

We didn't have time for the music either.
We also wanted to give the 4-5-6 batiments an ability but couldn't.

Thanks for playing !

I am surprised about the 2 bugs you mentionned.  We had not noticed them at any point while testing.
The second might be fixable but the first I would need more details...

Despite the randmoness, this game has a strategic depth in the core loop. The animations were a bit too slow for me, I would appreciate a skip button. Still, it's very impressive that you made this game in such a short amount of time. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words !

Yeah ! The game pace is quite slow and we couldn't add a skip button. We didn't even have time for music or any UI.

My favorite part is the creativity and strategy of placing ground. It's conceptually very intriguing. Very cool project! I did get a memory overload for some reason, maybe it's something on my end but it was sad to lose my progress :/
Thumbs up from me otherwise!

Developer

Thanks a bunch for playing !
Sad to hear you lost your progress though.

Cool graphics and sounds! There's something missing on the gameplay (either add more types of allies/enemies or missing some kind of music). Either way, it has the primary bases of a great game!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the comment and compliment !

You put your finger on 2 of the 3 things we didn't have time to add :
1) Music
2) Effects from the batiments or more units
3) UI

Interesting game concept but after a few round my cursor wasn't matching up with the times and I could not select anything/end my turn. For what I did play I can say it was very nice.

Developer

Thanks for playing !

Apparently a few people also had this issue. We never ran into it while testing. Unfortunate !

Really liked the concept and the art is great, the placement and spawning is cool and I wish there were more units to play around with. I also made it though to the end and was disappointed that there was no way to win from what I could tell.

Although the animations are great, they take way too long and especially  when there's 20+ units taking turns it adds up.  I also would suggest maybe obscuring some of the map or making it smaller early on so the player isn't overwhelmed.

I suggest showing the controls in-game in the corner for handiness, as well as highlighting units which can move. I also had an unfortunate bug where the selector was offset by half a tile and I could select but not move units.

Overall, love the concept and probably the game I have spent the most playing so far.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the in-depth analysis !
You absolutely spot on on our shortcomings.

You put your finger on some of the things we would have implemented with 2-3 more hours.
The controls in the corner were considered. We also had a end screen planned (I designed it) but sadly it wasn't put in.

I'm glad to hear that, even though you had a bug, you went to the end of the game.

I love this game so much! It's kinda hard to figure out. It took me a while do figure out what everything does and how everything works. A tutorial would've been nice. But trust me, It's worth the learning curve. Maybe it's just because I'm a sucker for tactical RPG's, but I love how this mixes the normal formula with a bit of uncertainty in your dice rolls. I love how You can place land to control where not only you can go, but where your opponents can't. And I love how when rolling to see what type of land you place down, you can slightly time it. I've not been able to get what I want consistently,  but I think I figured out the pattern to time it. I love how it adds a small element of control without letting you explicitly choose. I love how to compensate for the small values covering less land, they summon troops instead, possibly making the small numbers more valuable. And while it was a little slow paced, I like how it added to the sense of a grand adventure your going on. One thing that was really disappointing for me is that once I defeated the final boss and went to capture is camp, It didn't work. 5 turns passed by and I still didn't capture it. I don't know if I glitched it out or if the developer just didn't add an ending, but either way it was really anti climactic after the big long journey and the buildup of seeing the final boss at the top of the board the entire time just for it to end in nothing. But I still had a great time. A perfect blend of strategy and luck.

Also forgot to mention that the art is gorgeous. I love how everything is based off of a dice block. And the animation is great.

Developer

Thank you for playing !

Indeed the idea was to use luck by rolling the dice, but then give enough control to the player that there is no such thing as good/bad luck.
Building the map to open a path for allies or close a path for ennemy is what is it all about.

We wouldn't have had time to do a full tutorial... But we did try to add some UI with info on "controls" and "units".
Same thing for the end screen. I designed it (wasn't anything fancy) but it couldn't be integrated.
It was very last minute.

The game is beautiful and the idea is very intesresting, however is kinda of slow and its hard to know what to do

Developer

Thanks for playing ! Hope you enjoyed it ;)

Yup, we didn't have time to do a tutorial/guide.

Good concept, maybe a lack of feedbacks
