Really cool world and atmosphere, I want to make a game like this sometime. I got the second ending where I just died to the monster. I would have played a second round if I could have skipped the intro. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I think the consensus is that the dialogue has to be skippable haha. I'll definitely remember that in the future for better accessibility.

Thanks again :)

Loved the desert atmosphere set well right away with the immersive well done visuals and audio.
I really liked the details like where if you entered somewhere and there was some dialogue, and then you tried to do it again. I liked that the game didn't repeat the same dialogue again the second time, but said something else brief instead. I really liked that.

Really nice job on this game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed :)

This was really good! I love how intense you were able to capture the atmosphere with the particles and the howling of the sandstorm and fit it in with the other characters and interactions.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed :)

This was great!! The color palette, the fog, the black sun... fantastic atmosphere. You really nailed the low poly horror feel. Solid sound design. Loved the story and dialogue. I got 2/3 endings so far, definitely gonna have to come back later and try and get the first one.

Some small suggestions: I would add in an option to skip the cutscene at the start for people trying to play again. Also, I was able to just walk around in the desert past where all the cacti were, which I'm not sure was intentional. Maybe there could be an ending for "you got lost walking around in the desert"? Unless of course there is one and I just didn't find it, haha.

Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. And yes haha I think you found the last "ending" 😄 might have to walk quite a while though!

Wow, very ominous and spooky vibe. Just the fog and sound design alone do so much! I really like the whole look of everything. I would definitely suggest some more variety in the terrain/cactus, or even fewer cactus, since having so many of them takes away from the desolate feeling. Other than that though you nailed the vibe perfectly. Love the opening monologue and the characters as well. Very interesting entry, thanks!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Initially with the cactus I had tried to do a randomly generated set of plants/things around, but then ended up spending way too long on a system that prevented them spawning on roads and in important parts. I almost got there but was taking too much time so the cacti are 1,000 manually placed nodes 😅

Thanks again for playing!

You should check out the ProtonScatter add on, that's what I used to place trees in our game. Granted I was pretty lazy with it so the results aren't super great. But you can place boxes where your scatter items will spawn, and boxes where they aren't allowed to spawn, so you could easily block them from spawning in the road. And you can set it up so that they are randomly placed, with random orientation, and even random scale within a range so they are all slightly different heights. Super helpful for placing scatter, I would have gone crazy if we had to hand place everything lol

Oh this is awesome, thank you! Definitely a tool to use in the future for sure.

I went as far as getting endings 2 and 3, and honestly can't sit through the intro text/walk to find another.  I love the atmosphere of the game, but I feel a little variation in elevation (some slopes) and vegitation (one more type of desert plant, just to break it up?) would have drawn me in much more.  A great effort for a game jam game, thanks for giving us a game to play!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the feedback! Yeah I think the consensus is that the walking/dialogue is a bit tedious. In the future I'd like to expand it with a checkpoint in the town and an insta-skip option for the dialogue.

Thanks for playing!

While I was on my second run, I thought "Why am I not just starting at the sign?"  With some thought I get that the idea is to build vibe and give a little more playtime, but I think the walk could have been left out altogether.  Move the sign closer to the town, and spawn the player within visual range of the sign.  That way there's no "what should I be doing?" for a new player, but immediate direction: "oh, a sign...where does that point me?  Oh, a town ahead, ok." and off they go.

Developer

Yeah I appreciate the feedback on this one for sure. On initial playthrough, the goal was definitely to build atmosphere with the lengthy walk - I think it turned out slightly too long for my and most people's taste. On performing any ending it should have definitely spawned at a checkpoint of some sort!

The atmosphere is on point, and I loved searching for different endings, though as others have mentioned, the distances between places make restarting from the baginnning a tad punishing. Still a lot of fun, and I love the story elements / lore you put into your world!

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback and kind words :) Glad you found the different endings! Yeah I think the walking/dialogue could definitely have some QoL features to make them less punishing - it was certainly punishing play-testing it multiple times haha.

Thanks again :)

Wow, this is great! A little too much walking, but I like the detail of the sign hinting that your getting close.  Love the atmosphere and sound design. The sliding stone noise the monster made sent chills down my spine lol.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! I'm really happy the sliding stone detail didn't go unnoticed. It was partly inspired by "The Oldest View" by Kane Pixels on youtube (the "giant" that doesn't walk but rolls around). That mechanic is also an excuse for me not to animate/create actual walking haha.

I loved your game ! The visuals are totally what I like and the sounds are super great. I got the secret ending the first time but wanted to know more I started again and died, then the third time I got the (I think) final ending 3/3. That was a great experience with a cool story and a cool folklore origin (I read a little about Mogollon monster). The only complain I may have would be, as others have already pointed, the lack of fast read the dialogues past the first time and the size of the map that makes it tedious to restart to find a new ending. But it was an amazing experience, good job !

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! I've had a few people say they found the secret ending first - it's a shame there was a bug that meant the label didn't appear (It was supposed to say "Lost in the desert" as it fades out). Definitely agree that the dialogue/walking needs some QoL like insta-skip and checkpoints.

Thanks again!

Really nice job. A little too much walking, but good game

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the start was a bit of an artificial lengthener for the game - the character could've been brought closer initially. Hopefully you found the town and one of the endings though!

Submitted

The atmosphere is well achieved, but I think the world is very big, I think I was walking for too long on a route that was not the correct one haha.

but overall good job! :D

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Haha yeah the canvas I started with was enormous and ended up with just one central town. Hopefully you found the town and at least one of the endings though!

Interesting atmosphere for the game! I was a bit impatient and was hoping for a way to quick reveal the text. I immediately wandered off into the cactus land and got lost in the fog lmao. I like the little camera shake when walking. I like that the character sprite is a bit animated while talking. I like how big the world feels from the fog, and the aesthetic of the environment objects and buildings. I wonder what the big spooky black spot in the sky is about. At the end I kinda wandered into the world border fog and the game ended? Overall a unique experience, well done!

Developer(+1)

Hi there! Thanks so much for the feedback!

I think you found ending number 3! There's a bug at the moment where it fades out and returns you to menu screen when you find the ending - but it should say the title of the ending with ending "3 of 3" (I won't say too much so people can still find it on their own).

Thanks again :)

Love the vibes! I wandered in the desert, missed the town and went straight to the secret ending the first time ahah. I've got a more standrt ending. Will try to go further tomorow.

The atmosphere is great, i love the static pictures for the interiors. I can't really explain why, but the "fake" atmosphere make it even scarier when things go down. The sounds effects work really well too.

I'm really impressed, especially solo! Great job :)

Cool story, sells the vibe for sure, I got killed twice, rip,. I liked the PSX graphics look, and the audio is really well done, the noise of the storm, the talking, also I'll admit I was spooked by that  unnerving noise I heard before dying.

* also screen where you show the jam theme and wild cards is nice, I'll probably start doing that for future jams!

Developer

Hey thanks for the feedback!! I'm just checking out yours now :)
