I enjoyed the uniqueness of this game, loved everything about it except pushing boxes
Thanks for playing! Yea the boxes can be a little hard to work with, with more time I would have loved to sort them out. I hope they didn’t affect your experience too much.
A new gem for my collection, love it!
Oh wow! I’m glad you enjoyed it :) thanks for playing! :)
Really cool and different kind of game. Played right up to the end
Thanks for playing and for the feedback :) Glad to see you made it to the end!
This was a really good one. I loved the challenge of figuring things out for myself. Good one!
Thanks for playing and for the awesome feedback :)
Really loved the atmosphere and the art style. The music has variety and I like that. Lighting up torches was a nice touch. I wish you've used the light bulb mechanic more though. I think that the box and pressure plate was difficult to identify at first though, that they actually have unique mechanics. So, I think you can make them look more unique. Overall, well done.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback :) You're absolutely right. I wanted to use the bulbs more, but fell short of time to really put them to use. They were one of the first mechanics I built too funny enough.
This game is absolutely amazing I love everything its soo cool, the theme is incorporated amazingly and the mechanics and everything is on point. the art is really cute and fits it very well. I love the mechanics and the level design is great. However I did come across a couple bugs, for example on the level after you learn the pressure plate you infinitely die when you spawn in. one last suggestion I have is maybe having the blue ball as a toggle as I accidently clicked it and had to wait quite a while. overall a great game.
Thank you so much for playing and for giving feedback :) I'm glad you liked it!
A bug that causes you to infinitely die? Oh god.. never came across that before. I'll look into, thanks for bringing it up.
Thanks for the suggestion, I think thats a good idea :)
How could you massacre my boy D: Why would you introduce me to such a lovable silent protagonist like Skippy and then give potential for him to be massacred!
Heartless!
In all seriousness I loved this game lol.
So cute and genuinely fun! I love the idea of having to path Skippy around the levels and watch his little waddling self come out from the darkness. Such a great mechanic and so fun to play with.
No criticisms here other than that at times the lighting of the levels bugged out but that is expected in a game jam entry.
Great game and great job! :D
Haha I'm an evil man in reality. Mwhahaha ;)
Glad you liked it, thank you so much for playing.
Yea the web build has light bugs, that's why I recommended people to download and play the windows build instead. Hopefully that didn't take away from the experience (and affected your opinion). Thanks again :)
Very fun! Loved the art style and music! The puzzles were in my perfect in my opinion. Not too hard but still had to think about what you needed to do. The last level was definitely harder but didn't feel unfair. Though I also think I found an unwanted bug in the last level. Spoilers for people who haven't played it yet! When you put a box on spikes that are still up they wont go down as long as the box is on there. this will result in a death as there is no way to get the box without walking into a spike. But all in all very well done game! good job!
Omg without even testing it I know exactly why that bug is there! That's an oversight in my code. Thanks for pointing it out :)
I'm very glad you liked the game, thank you so much for taking the time to play it.
Good job there. I like the lighting an effects a lot. great entry!
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Very well done, loved the mechanics of the game the ambience and sound effects were really good
Nice job
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed my game :)
Very cool idea and I love the simplicity of it! So cute watching the little guy run around and it feels good being able to help him :D It was a really cute and fun game, you did a great job! The atmosphere, lighting, and even music and sound effects all worked really well together.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Yea he’s pretty cute. I felt bad killing him through all my testing lol
Awesome work! When I got to level 5 I actually didn't realize that you could interact with levers from far away and initially thought that should've been explained, but when I thought about it, it felt really rewarding having to figure that out for myself to beat the stage. If I had been told that initially, it would for sure not feel as special to complete it, so very good design decision there. Also, regarding the box mechanic, it has initially occurred to me that it would be more efficient to be able to grab the box to move it, but honestly, more precise movement is required to push the box to its location which adds to the challenge, and also, having the duck physically move the box feels closer to its character than grabbing it, so ya really nice design choice. Music reflected the atmosphere well too, especially toward the end levels. All the mechanics had purpose. It was also possible to right click to force the light source to stay at the clicked location, and while holding the right click down, move the mouse to the desired location on the screen without worrying about the duck following it in game, which would make it much easier for the player to get through the game since you could very safely observe the map. Not sure if this was intended but I didn't do that to complete the game. It could be very handy mechanic for levels that are extremely hard though. I believe my time was like 28 mins and had 25 deaths. And its another one of those puzzle games where you can keep building on top off it to make it even more creative, well done.
Thank you for playing and for the kind words :)
Yes, holding the light in place with the right click was intentional. I found that moving with the WASD keys forced the light to move also if you kept the mouse still, which made things harder so I added it. Although I was planning to remove it as I thought it might appear as a bug, but I forgot lol Glad you picked up on it though :)
I love that you explained your thought process in real time. Really helps me to picture what players went through as they played. Thank you for writing such a detailed review, it means a lot.
You're right, you could build on this in many ways, and I had a ton more ideas to throw into this if I had more time. (E.g. switches skippy had to press to open a door, but would close again after x amount of time / Bombs that would blow up parts of the wall / A dark version of skippy that runs away from the light that you have to kill to reveal the exit / monsters that lurk in the dark... etc).
Thanks again for playing :D
Beautiful game and perfectly executed! This lighting, the movement/controls, the music, the concept, everything is just amazing!
I got to one of the harder levels where the grinders slowly come to you and there's a box, a level, and two columns of spikes. I wasn't sure what to do there or was the level not finished yet?
Either way, the amount of levels in here considering the short time frame you had to make it is astonishing, and the difficulty in these levels were just right. Brilliant work, 5 stars for every criterion for you!
Hey :) Thanks for playing! I really appreciate the kinds word and for playing my game.
That level was the final level, so great job getting so far ;) It's a bit of a tricky puzzle, and SPOILERS, but basically you need to push the box onto one of the spikes, then pull the lever. It stops those spikes coming up so you can make it through. I was worried about that since I never did any real tutorial for it, but thought it would pose as a good final test. Perhaps not haha!
Thanks again for playing :)
That's so weird, I actually thought of doing that, but I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted it to. Maybe I was just in a hurry cause of the blades coming at me xD
Thanks for the explanation anyway!
Spoiler
In the last Level you have to run left an get under the wall. Now nothing can harm you and you can walk to the exit. I didnt know it was possible without this trick.
ah! Is that possible!?! Woops lol Well I would be disappointed if nobody cheesed my game haha good for you ;)
Nicely done! Several different elements come together unexpectedly well! The music, art, lighting, and mechanics go together well to make a chill experience also. If I'd read it on paper I don't think I would have got it but the way you have to dart back and forth to see where you're going while still taking care of Skippy is fun without being frustrating.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm so glad you and others enjoyed it! When I started putting it together I kept asking myself "this is cool, but is it fun?" so I'm glad that it ended up being so!
Very interesting game and such a fun artstyle. I love the music, game mechanics and the puzzles in the game. Each puzzle felt unique with a good difficulty balance. Love the game!
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much :)
Nice game and cool level design :D
Thanks for playing and for giving feedback :)
Very unique and enjoyable game mechanic and the levels are well executed! the boxes got a little frustrating as I couldn't reliably push them.
Awesome work overall especially with the level design!
Thanks for playing :) Yea I wanted to spend more time tweaking the boxes but time quickly crept up on me. There were a few other mechanics also not given enough time like the light bulbs, but that's a jam for ya lol
Funny game... it has some bugs with the colliders... I was able to teleport a box to the other side of the wall. Other than that, it's a funny experience... that bird is dumb! lol
Thanks :) Oh really? The box was the most unpredictable mechanic so that doesn't surprise me. Thanks for letting me know though.
Haha yea, the bird blindly follows you... literally lol
The idea is fun. You are quite good with the ladder of difficulty ! I like it. Good job !
Thank you so much for your feedback :) I tried to make each level build on previous levels, so with you saying that I'm really happy.
That was a good use of the lighting you did there! I loved it! Great job!
Thanks dude :) I appreciate the feedback!
