Use of the limitation
Narratively; the players only real enemy is his own anxiety, causing him to wreck his house with potions. Mechanically; your potions do more damage to you than the enemies do, and make the level harder to traverse.

Hello. potion seller. I'm going into battle and I need your strongest potions. Very fun concept for a game I also liked the tutorial at the beginning. The controls were a bit confusing at first, but I got the hang of it very quickly. What was a bit annoying though is that the character would sometimes get stuck on the wall, instead of just sliding alongside it. Made the chases seem clunky at times. But other than that, a very good project
Really interesting concept... It was kind of fun to play, but it felt too random for me.
Specially when I had to drop several potions just to find one that could be useful while running from several enemies... Or when I had 0 potions and there wasn't any boxes on the ground... And when the first boxe appeared, it was inside 5 pools making it very hard to reach it.
The colors remaining on the floor and dealing damage later (especially with different elements) helps set this apart from other games this jam that just have same-color-damage mechanics. Art was lovely as well. Overall had a great time playing and definitely didn't die of a <3 attack due to my own trigger-happiness!
I really enjoyed the game! I thought the concept was super unique and I loved the ending scene. Enemies do have some problems such as spawning outside the map or simply not moving after a while (I think they get stuck on each other)
I really enjoyed how ambitious you were with implementing the different ground statuses. It gave me a lot to learn within a small game, and I overall enjoyed the experience. I also liked the cartoon presentation, it was very juicy!
My notes: I believe I had a bug where the potions would leave my hand but quickly disappear without hitting ground. I was also a bit confused on what the right click function did.
Very good game! Looks great!
Well made levels and great concept.
Really good game!
What a fun game! Loved the funky music, sound effects, and the fast-paced nature of the game, my favorite part was the <3 Attack when it's game over.
Hello! I guess my mighty knowledge as a wizard couldn't protect me from a blue rat.
The game is fun but I have a suggestion. Don't explain the game with an explanation screen with a lot of text and stuff.
Try to make your game intuitive and the player will feel like he is learning.
Anyway, great job and good luck for your next productions.
Omg I loved this game! The concept and gameplay are super good and the art is cute, well done!
I just kept running out of potions tho :( I wished there was a way to replenish them
This is my favorite game of the jam that I've played so far, it's well polished, looks good, has nice sound design and mechanics. You were able to implement the theme and the limitation perfectly. Great job!
Fun little game. Just as I thought it was a little too easy the intensity increased.
There didn't seem to be anything preventing you from stacking different puddles on top of each other? If they replaced each other or even mixed to become a different color it would prevent you from camping in the same location.
I went ahead and made two changes per your your notes. I've added ammo pickups to motivate player movement. I've also added "hard mode" (on by default) which creates the effect that overlapping potions of different colors are immediately neutralized and will not hurt enemies.
I think you're right that this gets the player moving and makes for a more exciting game. You have great design instincts!
If these notes affected your rating of the game, re-evaluation is greatly appreciated :)
I also went to the corner and threw potions, art is pretty good, crazy how you even added achievements. I didnt use the save potion ability just spammed the potions and stayed in one spot seemed to work.
Hey Digitaldude!
Thanks so much for your notes, sounds like you found the dominant strategy! To address players who are too clever, like yourself, I added potion "ammo" and "hard mode" (neutralizes potion puddles when they mix colors).
Hopefully this will make the game more challenging and keep you moving.
If this affected your ranking of the game, re-evaluation is greatly appreciated :)
Cute game! Having to quickly assess the enemies while also looking at what potion you have / are going to get, while also navigating the room proved to be a good challenge. Having the Right-click to save is also a good touch, since it has its trade offs of choosing to hold something like water for a long time incase you need it, or save different colors more often to make sure you always have options.
Although, I did find out that you can pretty easily go into a corner and just constantly throw potions onto the ground, making a super puddle of every color and not have to worry about the enemies.
Maybe having some sort of reason to move around the map would help this, like maybe needing to go to different parts of the map to refill certain colors, or get more water.
It would also be cool if there were some potions to help you (while it goes against the theme of the jam), it would be fun to be running from a enemy you don't have the color for, so you throw down a potion that makes you move faster or makes them move slower. Just random ideas.
Art is cute :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to get these notes down, and for being our first player :D
I've done a couple things that address your feedback:
You're notes were seriously invaluable, I think they've helped us bring this game to a much more completed form, so seriously thank you, you have a great eye for game design and I loved trip+trap a lot.
If these modifications would've affected your rating, we'd be super grateful for re-evaluation :)
