Description
This is the soundtrack of a plateformer game : the concept is, a young girl, Emma, just moved from France to Yukon. She know nothing about snow, the pine forest, the new town she's in. She try to understand all thoses change with her childish eyes, and it translate by a daydream : the journey of a small artic fox in a snowy forest, fighting dark thought and everything that has ever scared Emma.

The first track, "By The Windows", is the title screen and the beginning of the dream : she imagine the small fox running in the snowy forest.
I tried to convey the mood of the little girl, and took inspiration of the OST of the game "Child of Light".

The second track "Owl Encounter" is the first level soundtrack : it start as a scary pine forest, dark and dangerous, until she encounter a funny big owl who will become her guardian.
I tried to convey the feeling of being alone, and using leitmotiv make it suddenly funny and reassuring. I took inspiration from the many goofy characters of the Zelda licence.

The last track "Monster Machine" is the first boss theme : Emma, while exploring her new home, found a nearby quarry. She saw one of the monstruous quarry truck, and it scared her enough for it to become her nemesis in her dreams.
The bossfight oppose the small fox and the giant machine, inhabited by demonic forces that make it alive.
I tried to convey the feeling of epicness and battle, and a little bit of doubt and fear, with a really "mechanical" feeling track , and used the leitmotiv from "By the windows" to make it epic.

Thanks for your attention ! See you to the next Jam !

Message from the artist
Sorry for my poor english, I'm a dyslexic french composer, I'm having a hard time !

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
I thought a cute little game about the inner world of a child who discover a new "world" by moving to a new country would be quite fun and pleasing.
It fit the theme in two ways : first, it's a journey in the inner world of Emma, and it's also her interpretation of the World around her.
It gave me the opportunity to explore the world of childhood, feelings, and fears.

Sampling By the Window for Machine Monster was such a cool idea. This is great work :)

You have some serious composition skills, my friend. I'm so glad I listened to your tracks before reading the description because that switch up in Owl Encounter genuinely got me! You presented a lot of great ideas in just three tracks and you should be really proud of that. Great submission!

You're gonna get this a lot, but I'm hearing the love for Zelda all over this. I love your melodic ideas and the places you go with the instrumentation as the OST progresses. Great work!

The first track is a really strong standout. I'm quite a fan of it. The second track I could legitimately see appearing in a VG though, very neat piece of work.

I was getting Twilight Princess / Skyward Sword vibes from the whole thing, which are the only two Zelda games I've played so I wouldn't say I get "zelda" vibes, just really those two.

Also from one composer to another, the panning on this entire OST is the best I've heard in the Jam so far.

Developer

thanks , I'm a big Zelda fan especially Twilight Princess, so it means a lot !

Oh the first track surprised me with the orchestrations and harmony ^^Some sadness and hope in it.

2nd track was really cool, somber and melancolic. The owl must be terrific, those tremolos add tension!

The 2nd part of the track really zelda x) good job for that vibe ^^Goofy bassoon

Love the piano sampling for the last track, it did a great impact !Wtf was that synth in the middle x)the little break was great.

Overall great listening!

By The Windows.... AAAAAHHHH I LOVE FOXES! (sorry). This is about the kind of music in my head that I look out the window at night)

Owl Encounter is suspenseful and then..... cute!

Machine Monster - moderately dynamic and... PERCUSSION!!! And then the synthesizer? It's beautiful! (I'll be honest: I started waving my Chinese chopsticks to the beat. Heh).

Thank you very much for the soundtrack, though small, but very interesting)

Nice work - I really like the usage of piano in the first track to then be brought back and sampled in track 3 in a new light!

You certainly know how to compose! I liked all three of your tracks, especially the first one!!!

I love the bassoon in the "Owl Encounter", so goofy :)

I love the strong melody in By the Window. The piano start is excellent.

Owl encounter is such a fun twist. The abrupt change in mood is a joy. Effective use of panning too.

Machine Monster's got a great groove. Good percussion samples. I think it could be a tad more menacing given the description, but I like it.

Thanks for making and sharing!

nice harmonies! Really like how I can attach each instrument to an animal/situation, that's very pleastant!

Oh these are something special - great work! The change of tone and direction half-way through Owl Encounter was unexpected but a delight, and it fits in place really well! Good use of a leitmotif through the three tracks - I think my favorite of the bunch is By The Window because it just has that piano-driven, emotion soaked goodness. Supporting instrumentation throughout is good, and I think you've done a great job mixing all the different elements together. Excellent travail, soumission fantastique!

Really like the variety in different sounds and moods you went for and the way you managed to combine them all very effectively.

Very nice melodies throughout.

A lot of emotional depth in this work mixed with whimsical wonder. Great melodies and composition! Many of the submissions sound like movie scores or stand alone soundtracks but this is a true video game ost. Awesome work!

Superb work! Very immersive.

Très très sympa! I really liked most of it, almost felt what missing is better VST's for a better sounding "By The Window". Great work!

I think you have some really cool ideas, as i quite enjoyed listening to this, and i agree with Twitchy on the variation comment. It will help you develop those ideas even more, and drive the story forwards. But overall I love the vibes, and I think you told a really lovely story (especially when following along with what you wrote!)

really liked the piano sound, and the flute/guitar texture is really beautiful.  love the harmonies and birdcalls in the second track!  the boss track was my favorite - definitely felt mechanical and threatening but groovy!  great synths too.  nice work!

Really cool vibe, the composition is pretty good, some advice I think would to have more variation to parts that loop like the harp in Owl Encounter. I really like the character your submission has. The call back to the motif in Machine Monster is really cool and I love the instrumentation and groove!

Submitted(+1)

Pretty cool especially Machine Monster really original, nice contrast between the two first which are more traditional. I also like the switch in Own Encounter between the creepy vibe and funny comedic joyful nicely done. The quality of your samples can be better but the composition itself is pretty decent. Good job !
