Description
(u can skip reading this big thing of mediocre writing if u want)

**************************************
You wake up in a vibrant and colorful world. Pastel flowers in shades of magenta and violet and lime green grass surround you. This pristine and soft flower bed supports you gently as you stare up at a shimmering, cloudless sky. Bubbles float leisurely upwards, shimmering a light blue color, each a uniquely identifiable shape somehow. Friendly fish shaped creatures glide along slightly above the flowers at a relaxed pace, occasionally speeding up to inspect an intriguing bubble. The fish are round and cartoony, with friendly smiles and the texture of crayons. They're like the doodles of an innocent child come to life. A little girl, maybe 10 years old, sits under a tree some distance away. She has a somewhat fancy pink dress with flowers in her black hair. It reminds you of some kind of clothing you might see at some cultural festivity. Noticing you, she jumps up in excitement and waves. She greets you in a language you don't know yet completely understand. She makes her way towards you, never losing her excitement. Her smile is sunshine and rainbows but also the light drizzle that rejuvenates the earth. It glows like a lantern fly on a special night. But somehow, you know this isn't how it is. Maybe it's how it was. Maybe it's how it should be. And you know the girl. You know you're important to her.
You can't remember.
She grabs your hand and leads you toward the tree enthusiastically, going on about some mundane thing that happened back at wherever she came from. You don't know what she's saying yet you feel her joy. You reach the tree. It has leaves of a deep green and bark of a rich brown. It looks old and mature, yet brimming with life and potential. The girl turns around, as if suddenly remembering something. She smiles fondly once again and formally gives you a warm greeting. You remember she's dead. Maybe none of this is real, but she's so sweet you want to smile with her anyways.

"welcome home!"

hello! thanks for reading that whole thing if u did lol. if u didn't, that's understandable so here's the tl;dr: you, the player, wake up in a dreamy, unfamiliar place and sees a little girl (the one in the art) that looks familiar but you forgot somehow. The game is spent exploring this strange world with cartoon fish and floating bubbles and trying to remember why you're here, who you are, and who the girl is. At the end of the game, you float away into the sky (like the bubbles) to return to your real world. The game would be some kind of 3D semi-open world type thing with cutscenes to progress the story.

track 1 - watching bubbles float towards the shimmering blue sky:
this would be the general exploration music for the game. I imagine the bubbles in the picture theme to vary in abundance in different regions of the game world, with some places having beautiful scenes of them slowly gliding upwards in large open areas. This track specifically is inspired by the song Wind Tempos (and the album it's from) by Porter Robinson

track 2 - the friendly fish factory:
i guess this is the silly song from the sound track lol. I really like the funny yellow fish drawings from the picture theme, so i was thinking there would a somewhat hidden area that has a cartoony "factory" where all the fish come from. Maybe you'd have to find it as part of a side quest or if you decide to follow the pathing of some specific fish lol

track 3 - alone with the breeze, wildflowers for company:
back to somewhat melancholic music. This is definitely the track that's the most fleshed out and I'm the most happy with. I was honestly considering just submitting this track by itself originally, but i feel like the other tracks help give context for the idea i had in mind despite being "unfinished" in some sense. Anyways, for this one i imagine your on a hill that overlooks the grassy, flat starting area with the big tree described in the big thing of writing at the top of the page. Perhaps you find a big clue on this hill that leads to an important realization about the player character and girl's identities along with why this world was created and why you're here. I imagine the grass below and around you waving and rippling from a breeze as you look out at the view with wildflowers surrounding you, allowing you to reflect on the game so far. This would be past the half way point of the main plot probably. also if it's not obvious from listening, this one's inspired by the Minecraft OST by C418

track 4 - come visit again sometime:
short and sweet ending theme. i gave it those weird digital artefacts cus it reminds me of low quality mp3 files of songs on my computer. they're poor imitations of what the actual audio should be but the digital artefacts adds a sense of familiarity and charm to them somehow. And that's what i imagine this game world and the girl to be for the player character by the end. The girl is a simulated version of an actual person they knew, and this whole world is a strange imitation of the real world, tying into the "inside my world" theme

i made the whole thing in fl studio 21, with melodic instruments from Spitfire Labs, Pianobook, and the SGM soundfont. drums r from various sample packs ive collected over the years. looking back, i definitely couldve done more if i organized my time better, but i'm pretty happy with what i did make, even if i only consider track 3 to be in a "finished" state. also i tried using a leitmotif that shows up in tracks 2-4, i'm not sure if it's noticeable enough or if it even should be noticeable cus in previous ost jams i never did that lol

anyways, if u read this far and listened to the whole thing, thank you and i hope u enjoyed it

Message from the artist
thank you for listening and good job to everyone who submitted!

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
i imagined elements of the game and storyline based on the picture theme and used that as a starting point for the music. In the game, the player character is in a dreamy and unfamiliar world which they know is somehow not real, fitting the "Inside my world" theme. I tried to make some of the music very atmospheric and dreamy to reflect this lost, otherworldly feeling

This was a great listen. I especially liked track 3, the melancholic vibe hit me pretty good. Totally can hear the C418 inspiration too! Great stuff!!

also, your sense in titles and art perfectly match the music. I love it.

Developer

ty, i thought hard about the titles lol

Really good first track with those patterns repeating and the harmonies shifting around it! Loved the peaceful and admirative mood!

"Alone with the breeze" really captured the mood of being alone and that melancholic feel is greatly brought!

Overall, great harmonic and melodic ideas with a rich rhythmic dimension!

My favorite one was come visit again sometime! It was very sweet sounding. I think it also had some clipping issues but that didn't stop it from sounding great!

Loved the covert art, LOVED you soundtrack.

Is the repeating pattern a PIANO in watching bubbles float towards the shimmering blue sky?

Beautiful work!!

Developer(+1)

That use of the distorted keys is so evocative and I love it. Your story really resonates with me and I can tell we are kindred spirits w/regards to what this jam's theme evokes.

Also the title is brilliant.

How i can be nostalgic for a series of songs i just heard is entirely beyond me, the atmosphere you created in such a short time was really something special. Excellent use of more minimalistic technics that really let your musical ideas shine through!

Developer(+1)

I absolutely LOVE this vibe. The world you built is cool too... The percussion in the friendly fish factory is so good, and I love the progression of alone with the breeze, flowers for company. This is a very strong submission, you should be very proud of this! Great work!

'The friendly fish factory' is such a fun track! :) I also had this dilemma wether to submit the tracks in an order that tells the story and evolves with time or submit the tracks I like most first and leave others behind.. I chose the second version, and honestly next time I'll do the opposite, as I like the way your story evolves with each track!

Developer

the dilemma is real lol, im glad u enjoyed how i ordered the tracks

thanks for listening

The story reminds me a lot of liminal spaces. The atmosphere really fits that, and C418 is a great choice of inspiration :3 I'm a big fan of the synth for the 'Watching Bubbles Float', I think you do a great job with picking sounds. And I wouldn't have noticed the motif as a leitmotif if you hadn't pointed it out, but actually I found it a cool effect to look for it and have it be slowed down compared to 'friendly fish factory' track (which I adore)

Developer(+1)

ty! the choppy repeating part of watching bubbles float is actually not a synth but instead a chopped up piano bit lol

glad the motif wasn't too hidden, thanks for listening :)
