If this doesn't win the jam then I don't know what will. This was the best entry I've played by a wide margin! Everything came together really well - the music was great, the controls were great, the shaders really added another layer of shine to this game! My only complaint is that it's a bit too hard - I think my high score is only about 40%, though I am notoriously bad at bullet hell type games.

Developer

It didn't haha! Thanks anyway for the review!

Really good. Very polished and absolutely nice

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot!

Submitted(+1)

fun to see and play.

nothing really wrong with it. i liked it.

Developer

Glad you liked it, thank you!

How do you create such good visuals and gameplay in such a short amount of time? Truly top of the pack material here. It's hard to find some criticism because of how overall polished it is. My only gripe I guess would be wanting more impact when I take damage so I know when I've taken some damage. Amazing entry! Congrats on your great work.

Developer

This whole health thing was added at the end because the game was (a bit) hard with only one hitpoint haha! Gotta admit it's not the most polished part of the game ^^' It also lacks invicibility frames, I'd say. We're taking this into account for our next jams =)
Thanks for the nice comment!

Damn, so much work is put into this! One of my favorite games to play in this jam so far! The gameplay is very smooth and you totally nailed the rhythm aspect for this jam! Love it, the visuals are amazing for a week long jam too!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! We chose to keep a small scope (only 4 enemies, one track) to be able to polish the game as much as we could!

Submitted(+1)

Yea, keeping it minimalistic is often the way to go!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for your nice comment. In fact we didn’t work that much on it, we weren’t available on the week-end and kept working during daytime on the week. But we are used to gameJams, and my ultimate secret is that I keep saying no to any new feature. About the visuals, I worked a lot on the shaders and, at the end the codebase is about 55% on shaders and 45% on other logical stuff.

Submitted(+1)

The shaders? oh u mean the beams? Damn but all the more amazing, this is an amazing creation that you guys put up XD

Developer(+1)

In fact, I meant the beams, the stars in the background, the transition using fractals, the crt display effect, the chromatic aberration effect and everything about pulses and deformation (black-hole) :P

Submitted

oh right, yea damn, those were amazing definitely, crazy visuals haha great job w those!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Great job with those shaders, I love the transition effect from the title screen to the game. Is that a Julia fractal?

Developer(+2)

Yes, it’s a Julia set. At first, we tried to use rhythm and beats to modulate the fractal and made a level inside it (based on sdf function). But it was unpredictable and surely not fun

pretty polished game with fun environmental rhythm mechanics.

Developer(+1)

Glad you had fun, thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Was a lot of fun to play. Bullet hell and rhythm go well together. The environment felt really responsive to the music. The presentation was striking and fitting to the music. Assigning different patterns to enemies with unique attacks makes a lot of sense and works super well. The patterns are introduced well and the entire game just feels great. Good work.

Developer

Thanks for your comment! All the credits for the variety of patterns and all the sync stuff go to @Ysendrin.

Submitted(+1)

This was so much fun to play???? Also the aesthetics were super sweet and consistent. I feel like this is the kind of game you could play for ages.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback, we really gave everything on the graphic part :P

Jam HostSubmitted(+1)

Really lovely audio-visual experience. Felt really polished too, maybe the only thing I could say in terms of feedback is that some patterns are very unexpected. Amazing entry! :)

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback, I’m glad you pointed out these patterns. The fact that some patterns are almost impossible to predict was intended. The goal was to give a real feeling of difficulty, to give the impression that the game is really violent, even cruel. But in the end, for a “bullet hell” the life system is quite gentle, the player can easily take 4-5 hits before dying and get all his life points back within a few second. The general impression of difficulty adds tension, but above all allows to really play with the player’s sensations: a break that feels really good, and most of all the satisfaction of beating the game.

I really liked the retro aesthetics of this game, It was overall very captivating and fun, though it took me a little while to grasp the health bar. I especially loved the music and how the packground pulsed in beat with it. Overall a very enjoyable game, with really cool graphics, except it was bit hard (I died a loot) and haven't gotten that far YET but I will try. Also I appreciated the easy controls as well :D

Developer

Thanks for your comments, glad you find it fun!

Submitted(+1)

cool game

but i didnt really understand how did it was rhythm

but overal the game was really fun and not too hard

good job

Developer(+1)

Well, the blue enemies shoot on the offbeat; the pink guys shoot laser on the snare; the blackholy-thing moves with the synth. It's about "environment rhythm". You don't have to be locked in with the beat, but understanding the music should help you with the patterns.

Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Tight controls, fun audio-synced patterns, and excellent presentation.

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+2)

I really really like this! Love the style, gives me Polybius vibes for some reason. The gameplay makes me feel the same way I do when Im playing an Undertale boss fight. You also got the Rhythm elements on point imo. Great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! The laser guys are indeed greatly inspired from the Sans battle from Undertale ^^

Submitted(+1)

really nice this one!!!!!!!!! :D
love the ambiance!
best visuals and music for me till now! ;)

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you so much!

Oh my goodness, somebody actually did a rhythm bullet hell! Yes! Great job on the animations, transitions and that... synthwave'ish aesthetic. It's the most fun game I've seen on this jam so far. In ways of criticism, it was hard at first to understand that the healthbar worked in a way that the fuller it is, the lower the health, and then as it empties, I would regenerate health. Rather confusing on my first run, but I got the hang of it on the 2nd run. I really felt like a dash would be a good addition, as for example the big wide ray enemies were really tough to avoid when I couldn't dash across the ray. Another small thing is a lack of checkpoints. I got to the second stage/part and died, and had to start over from the very beginning (which hurt). I'm seeing a bunch of parallels with JSaB (love that game) and you absolutely nailed the minimalistic aesthetic (though you know, with colours and not just raw shapes). A ton of fun to play :D

Developer

We added the health system at the very end because it was pretty hard to go through the whole thing haha! I'm not fond of checkpoints because it's a rather short game (4 minutes), and I think that going through it every time only helps you to understand and memorise the patterns (especially the lasers). But I understand that it can be frustrating ^^' As for the dash, we were afraid that it would make the game to forgiving and easy. JSaB and Undertale's boss fights are our main inspirations, indeed ^^
Thanks a lot for this comment!

This is super fun! I couldn't get past 46% (yet). I love how everything is in sync with the music. Very polished, nice job!

Thanks for providing a Linux binary, worked fine here. :)

Edit: most fun game I've played in this jam so far. Got to 78%, the laser walls in the second section are tough.

Developer

I'm sure you can do this haha! Indeed those blue things were kinda lame at first, but in the last version they're a bit hard to get through ^^'
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I love it! The music is awesome, and the visuals are nice too. It reminds me a lot of Just Shapes and Beats. Overall very polished and clean!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback, it’s true that it was one of our inspirations.
