I really liked this game. The graphics are quite good, there are parts where you get a scare, the darkness and having to complete tasks under pressure. Very good design choices to create a horror game, great work!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it
Holy crap… I was STRESSED. When the woman started following I got really spooked. Well placed jump scares and fairly easy to navigate the backrooms to find what you’re supposed to do next. It really helped having landmarks to help know where you are. Very well done!
this is realy good! I love the Aesthetics and the sound. it makes it very creepy. and the jump scares was great too! good job!
I tried to create an atmosphere that, at the same time, is not claustrophobic due to the large space to move around, is at least intimate, the details of the house, refer to something simpler "despite the bathroom being a bit disturbing" I'm still going to do it some adjustments to the sound too so that you can better adjust the ambient sound and sound effects. Thank you very much for playing!!!
Great jam game! I liked a number of little details about the game; The inclusion of Beksiński paintings, which is very fitting for a horror environment. The ghost slowly follows you around, which was one of my favourite parts of the game, it did get a little stale after struggling to find the last trash bag but it added a lot to the experience.
I did find myself repeatedly having to turn down the volume as some things were especially loud, like the phone ringing. I’m also much more a bigger fan of suspenseful horror, I was glad the jump-scares stopped happening so frequently, at the beginning I thought it was a bit much, but I did also find some of them pretty funny.
I also think it would have been nice to add a content warning, just in case some people may have sensitivities to certain imagery, it’s not entirely necessary giving the nature of the jam environment and the genre of the game, but it can go a long way for people’s experiences.
Overall I think it’s a great game, and I had great time playing it ^.^
The idea is that the ghost would get faster as you progressed, but as I didn't have much time to implement some things, like the stamina bar, I thought it could end up being very difficult in the end... some of the scares were supposed to be more relaxed anyway. , like the duck and hand in the trash, I would have liked to have put a note on it saying tidy up your room lol and the idea was that the beginning was more tense in terms of scares and from the middle onwards the tension would be on account of the pursuer, who once slower than you, you could move so far away from him that you would be caught by surprise at times. I will add volume controllers and the sensitive content warning note. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!!!
Great project. It's nice to be completed for a jam actually, I didnt expect that. When the ghost started hunting me I just hoped that the duck will eat it or the clown will stab it with his knife 😅 They are both scary too, but the fact they dont chase you is enough to consider them as friends
I didn't have time to bring some monologues that I wanted to put in, all the objects in the scene are part of the boy's memories, like horror films and small bath objects... Thank you very much for playing and I'm glad you liked it!
real nice! loved the overall graphics and animations
I'm glad you liked it, despite it being a jumble of things mirrored in the scene, I tried to be as cohesive as possible :D
Very good game and it's well polished. I liked the trash mission, it took me a while to find all three trash bags! Good work!
The issue of polishing is always complicated, I was usually only able to test my game on one more PC besides mine, but since both are pretty bad, I believe that if it runs here it will run on any other one lol
Thanks for playing!
Interesting little backrooms game. I'm not a fan of backroom-style games, but this is well-put together. Very simple, very straightforward. I think a fair warning to give is regarding the volume, but with a little polish, this game will be a good one. Also, good ending!
Keep up the good work. Thank you for submitting this to the Scream Secrets Jam 2024.
This is my second game and my first time in a jam, it was hard to do on time and the choice of a backroom was just convenience. I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the volume tip, I'll adjust that!
This is great! I got scared a LOT when I played this haha! I enjoyed this overall and felt very frantic getting all the chores done. It was an extremely solid horror experience! One quality of life thing I think would be nice to have if you update this would be volume sliders, like separate for effects vs. ambience. It didn't take away from the experience really, I just found I had to lower my overall volume a lot for the effects, so I lost out on some of the ambience.
Awesome job on this!
Wow, thanks a lot for the feedback, I really tried to make something scary for this Jam, maybe I overdid it with the noise lol.. I'll get the volume control as soon as the Jam is over, thanks a lot for the advice and thanks for playing!!!
Congrats on your submission! Very creepy. I couldn't get the last trash or the toothbrush. I kept running away from the creepy lady and got caught like 3 times before giving up. A few of the corners/corridors were too dark so I couldn't tell it was a dead end. Twice I got caught trying to see the things in the bathroom because there was only one way out.
It is possible to avoid it in the bathroom by luring it into one corner and dodging it through the other, but yes, it is a bit difficult. As for dark corners, perhaps the flashlight is not enough, as there are really dark areas and the light does not reach the end until you are already there. Thank you very much for your feedback, I will take your difficulties into consideration for a future update.
Can't say I would have a good opinion on the game, mostly cause I have a Meh opinion when it comes to the Backrooms themselves and dozens of games that been made on the setting.
But did you play it? I would like to have some feedback about the game itself, even so, thanks for leaving your opinion.
Oh yes I did play, even saw the model of Terrifier not sure why he is in the game. For what it is I think its okay, but again I'm not a fan of the Backrooms and this style of gameplay so really take my opinion with a massive grain of salt.
Good game, loved the setting!
I'm happy, despite being simple, we tried to work well on the look.
Good work! I didn't catch any screamer, but the game kept the whole passage in suspense
The ghost is purposely slow, he is not there to catch you, but to increase the tension, of course, there are those who end up coming across him in some corner by surprise and end up being caught. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback.
Great work! You made wonderful use of assets, and many effective spooks and scares. I think it really has the most scares-per-minute of anything I've played so far. And "find things while evading a creature" is one of my favorite tropes ;)
I know that too many scares can take away from the immersion and end up being predictable, that's why I put the ghost, because when you finally understand the pattern of the scares, a demon appears and chases you the whole time, making the following scares even more tense than the first ones. I'm glad you liked how things worked. Thanks for playing!
I could tell you pulled all the stops to scare the player. That duck felt like my safe space after a while lol. The completion of bedtime rituals is a really creative twist to a nightmare and it did a good job keeping me engaged the whole time.
The duck is comforting lol the bed thing was to try to be faithful to the theme of "it was there all the time" kind of a pun. Thanks for playing :D
I love how this game uses every jump scare trick in the book: in addition to the stock-standard flashes, every corner feels like it has some trick or another to upset the player. We got things peeking out of corners, false alarms with objects falling down, noises from afar, elements appearing or disappearing suddenly, bizarre, grotesque or gory imagery, the list goes on! I think the imagery is a bit all over the place in terms of transposing itself to the Backrooms mythos, but you have a great literacy with horror mechanics and how to make the picees work. The story about a child escaping his nightmare - or appearing to, at least - by completing a series of bedtime rituals is a nice way to tie the tasks together. Definitely a fun game to explore!
I confess that I know very little about backrooms, the choice was for pure convenience "empty place" it made it easier when creating the game since I didn't have to work or worry too much about the level design... but yes, one thing I studied a lot to create this project was the horror part, timing, etc. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it!!!
Oh man that was intense for me! I am really sensitive to jump scares so it was hard to play through but what you’ve made is really impressive.
From the zoom-in and out effect at the start of the game to the environment and the simple but effective interactions, it was really good. It’s also a very nice attention for your players to add checkpoints.
I think you are quite close from something that you could release outside of a jam. I would maybe improve some of the lighting, monster and environment but it’s already looking good!
Congrats!
We'll be working on improvements and more levels once the Jam is over.
Thank you so much for your feedback, it really helped!
When I saw “select language: Portuguese/English” I immediately went “aqui é Brasil, caraio”! Really well made game, the jumpscares were spot on, and the monsters appearing only after you complete a certain number of objectives was a good decision too. It just took me longer than I’d like to admit to find the last trash bag haha.
Are you a br bro? Talk to us kkkk
I think everyone slips on the trash, even because they are the only ones with more than one to collect.
I'm glad you liked it and I'm glad we got the horror vibe right. Thanks a lot for commenting
Sure! My discord (and social media in general) is RussoDaFederal
Damn that got my pulse high! I'm gonna be honest and say that I've been tired of backrooms themed stuff for a while now but this was actually a good time! The level was a good size so I never felt(too) lost and the objectives were straight forward. Ghost mommy is scarrryyyyy!
I really enjoyed it, good job! :)
I just wanted to take advantage of the backroom structure, because I wouldn't have much time to create a detailed map. I would say that backroom is just in the name lol
Yes, the ghost mom is creepy, even I'm scared of her, even though she's slow, just knowing that she's on the map gives me goosebumps.
Thanks for commenting, that means a lot!
Phew! That gave me genuine chills! I have low tenacity when it comes to playing horror games, so when I lost I wasn't up for playing it again, but yeah you definitely got that horror element down! The game probably just needs a little refinement. Keep up the great work!
It's not a difficult game, but I believe for some the experience may be a little unpleasant in terms of tension... but I'm very happy that you liked it, thanks for commenting.
Yeah, that's what I meant, I was too much of a scaredy cat. lo
