Game's Take on the Theme
The player and the bosses are all spinners. Without spoiling anything, some of the bosses have attacks that incorporating spinning in some way as well

Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
Sound and music are from Pixabay. I made everything else

A really interesting and well-made game!

I really liked the idea of having to make contact with your opponent in order to regain your life, but I'd have liked to see this exploited a little more. It's especially with the first boss that we experience this mechanic, and even then it's very difficult to make contact as we're overwhelmed by attacks that invite us to use our dash away from the boss ^^'.

All the same, I had a lot of fun playing the game, and apart from this little feedback, the bosses are very well designed and a lot of fun to face.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I tended to want to press the “J” key when I was already pressing the “K” key. I think it's great that you can't do both at the same time, but perhaps it lacks a beep to let you know that you can't do both at the same time.

Anyway, congratulations on a great game :D

I kinda ran into the problem of the bosses feeling a little too similar if you could mostly just melee them, so I felt the best way to vary things would be to have the player need to melee other things ( the sawblades, green bars etc. )

Though yeah, I guess I could've done more lol

I thought for a while if a player should be able to cancel shooting by trying to melee and vice versa, but I felt like that may end up being too exploitable so to speak lol.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback :)

If you plan to continue development of the game, it might be good to include the environment into the fight a bit more rather than relying completely on the bosses own abilities. The gameplay is fantastic as it is, though!

every about this game was just so nice, the controls were very smooth, effects were cool, I loved its fast paced gameplay and the bosses varied a lot which I enjoy much. great game.

Incredible amazing art style and effects, Although the Ui is kind of frustrating to me at first.  Until I figure out what these bars mean. Amazing game in general.

Love the fast-paced gameplay and tight controls to match. The bosses are well-designed and fair, and there's a good variety between the three, although I would have loved to see more chances for melee attacks rather than ranged since it fits the idea more (Balancing around melee-only would probably take a lot of work. Maybe weakening them in the early phases with ranged, then going in for the kill with melee?) But regardless, one of the most fun games of the jam and executed very well.

Simple but very fun and balanced mechanics and bosses. Every boss was unique and definitely very spin-y. Enjoyed playing this one!

Honestly intrigued by the amount of people doing beyblades that shoot bullets as opposed to Extreme Dashes, but this game was pretty awesome. A bit sad how probably 70% of the phases are about shooting and not getting up in there letting it rip sparks fly and showing what has never been seen before

Developer (1 edit)

The problem I faced with that was that every boss would end up being way too similar if you can melee all of them freely

I wouldn't be able to have the second boss as an example ( without changing it quite a lot anyway ) or have some parts of the 3rd boss without it turning into a slog without ranged attacks

Not saying it wouldn't be possible to have atleast a little variety ( someone better than me could probably do it by mixing up the level design ig lol ), but I thought it'd be more interesting to have an interplay between melee and ranged attacks in some capacity

Anyway, thanks for playing :)

a game that has a simple idea but very well implemented, congratulations!

Really nice game! I love the beyblade spinners. Its always a great uses of theme.

  • For me the issues its the controls. First of all, why there is no gamepad support? It should be great to play this on gamepad. Second, I feel pain in my fingers. J and K its not a great choice imo. Why there is no mouse controls? LMB/RMB + spacebar and wsad should feel better.
  • Boss fights are a bit too long. I got bored in the middle of fight. Maybe adding a way for a critical damage, such as weakspots, or something extra, will make this better.
  • My fantasy about the beyblade spinners its the most about the melee attacks, supported by abilities. Meanwhile in this game, the main way to deal the damage, and so much times the only way its a ranged attacks. So its not in line with my fantasy about these spinners.

And thats it, the rest is really great and I love it.

GJ!

I don't own a controller, so can't add support for it. Maybe I should've added mouse controls though

Were you using the dash to move around ? That makes quick work of a boss and allows you to get lots of melee damage in

Anyway, thanks for playing :)

Oh too bad that you dont have controller. Im sure your game on controller will be much more enjoyable.

About the melee, I was trying to force myself to use melee, through the dash etc but simple the ranged attacks and focus on dodging is much easier. Maybe there is no enough reward for melee attack? something like big first damage when melee hits with a lot of velocity.  Or simply, nothing force me to use melee on a bosses.

Developer

hmm.... were you parrying the green sawblades ?

Submitted

Yes, but you knows, it's still not what I meant. It's not clash. It's more like a way to collect heal than hit with force in our opponent body.

I really enjoyed the second boss in particular as the skill reward of if you can parry you won't die, but it gets increasingly harder was perfect design. My biggest issue was the very first boss, until the phase with the green tops, I didn't feel like I ever had enough time to regain the health. Maybe I was missing something, but it took 3/4 tries before I could even get into the later phases and even then only had a little health. After I made it through that, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Were you using the dash while fighting the first boss ? Your dash helps in moving more quicker in general. It's not just to dodge

Anyway, thanks for playing :)

Very good control feelings. The bosses' patterns are easy to understand and incrementally challenging. Good job !

Banger game! The mechanics were really well implemented, the difficulty was perfect, the music was amazing. It felt so good when i finally beat the 3rd boss. Well done, i had a lot of fun playing this!
