A cozy game with strategy elements and I liked it! In my first run, it was confusing to understand what to do, but in my second run, I completed the game!

It would be nice if farm zones (named hills I guess) gave food to monsters since I thought it was the main food resource for monsters.

Overall, well done!

"This game is so addictive."

I have to admit I completely didn't understand what I was supposed to do at first, but once I got it I played all the way through and enjoyed it. Maybe it was just the upgrades I happened to get but I definitely never felt low on coins and was able to pretty rapidly go through my deck and play everything repeatedly.

Having to keep an eye on the monsters and keep them alive kept things interesting. Sadly a long legged red dude tragically passed away right as I fed him a burger. If only I had been faster. Good night, sweet prince :'(

Very clever game! The monsters walking around a loop reminds me a lot of Loop Hero, but now you’re taking care of monsters instead of being a band of heroes defeating them. I love the art style as well

wow! incredible game! i really liked how it was structured around making paths for the monsters to collect items from! i think i played this a bit too much than i'd like to admit, haha. it's a bit hard to keep all of your monsters fed, especially ones that aren't walking. but i'd love to see this into a fully fleshed out game someday, if you all are intending to. all in all, an amazing game.

Pretty neat concept. I little confusing to understand whats going on at first. I think if you were to build this out you might want to start the player off with only a few resources at a time. It felt a little overwhelming and with such steep prices it was easy to get stuck.

Developer

Yeah, the game lacks progression, it took us too much time to find a satisfying game loop and we just weren't able to do a progressive game with the time left, a lesson learned for future game jams!
Thank your for playing our game and for your advice!

Monster Mash!

1. incredible innovative game

2. I was a little confused at first and thought it was bugging out, I couldn't place my second building, and when you try to press on the cards in hand with your held building it places buildings there haha. Soon i realized you place the buildings onto existing paths

3. the path system works seemlessly its very innovative and very fun to keep building and expanding

4. keeping monsters healthy is tough, you really need a lot of coins for reshuffles and i find buying anything with coins early on is really detrimental. Maybe its because I started with 3 monsters on a path in a game, which is too hard to maintain, instead of two

5. The idea of color draining out of monsters to lose health is a very clever idea

6. theres a lot of replayability here, do any of the mosnters do anything differently at all?

7. I really wanted to play this in full screen but a lot of the game gets cut off when I do, is this an issue on your end as well

8. also wish there was some visual feed back when you do a reshuffle, or a shuffling noise

9. I forgot to mention the art, the 'drawn' style is amazing

I gave this game high marks, very great, keep jamming!

Developer

Hi, thank you for your comments!
1: Thanks :D
2: Yeah, we weren't able to do a good "tutorial" or natural progression of mechanics.
3: Thank you for noticing! It was a lot of work and I am very happy with the result.
4: Yeah, we didn't have the time to balance the game, there are not enough ways of producing coins, chainsaw is the current meta.
5: Thanks, I implemented that :D
6: They have different stats, Red monsters are weaker and faster, Thumb monsters have more health, but are slower, Rock Llamas have a shield, so they don't lose too much health and can survive with little food. And the Serpent Thingies are all rounders. If we ever continue developing this game I would give the monsters passive abilities, some triggered abilities in certain biomes and do some monsters that walk the other way.
7:  We didn't have problems with full screen, if you could send a screenshot that would be awesome.
8: Yeah, would love that, I had the sound effect in the game, but didn't trigger it :(
9: Thank you!!

very good game, kept me going to the end for a couple of times! the "mission" screen was kinda difficult to understand at first, so i had to open/close it 3-4 times until i figured it out. i would suggest something like moving it to the side or making it a bit transparent so that the player can see the ui at the same time.

all in all great job though, i had a lot of fun and found it very charming!

edit: ah, also i had a lighthouse spirte sticking around even after i used the sea card, i read in another post something similar about a burger. well it happens to lighthouses too :P

This was a really fun game!  I love the gameplay, the art, and the polish up.  Great Job!

I did find a bug, where if you click on a hamburger card while there's a hamburger on your cursor, it leaves a hamburger picture there!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for playing our game! I thought I had patched that bug! thanks for reporting it!

That was really cool! Unique game, with unique game design, great video and audio presentation!
I wish game allows more "progressive" gameplay where it would be easier and forgivable at the start and harder at the end. It would allow to experiment more with cards and allow player to get used to them.

This was really, really fun!
Hope you'll get some fun with Stormflow as well, if you'll have some time!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for your comments, I tried your game, very interesting! In terms of the progression, yes we would have loved to add that, we just run out of time!

Submitted

Very understandable :)

This was a really good submission, the game was very unique and I don't think I've played a game like it before. Once I got the ropes and understood exactly what I was doing, I had to go for another round. Thank you for reaching out in the thread! Had a great time!

Submitted(+1)

Really nice idea and music. I liked it a lot. My only suggestions is that sometimes monsters where on top each other and i couldn't feed the one i wanted, and maybe reduce the tutorial text to only the not intuative things or add images.

GJ!

Developer(+1)

The monsters overlapping I think that needs a better selection system, where if two monsters are within the click, the game pauses and shows the monsters side by side or something like that. In regards of the tutorial, yeah, we need to improve it a lot, I always run out of time in Jams and can't make a decent tutorial :(, this is something I need to work on in the future.

Thank you for your comments!

This game was pretty fun and very chill. Really liked the Loop Hero-esque gameplay loop, and had a great time. My only feedback and suggestions, is that I ran into a bug where one of my monsters was super tiny, and it was really hard to tell when they were running out of food. I would also say that I didn't really get the storm aspect of the game, but overall had a great time and is one of the better jam games I've played.

Developer(+1)

The tiny part is a bug when they are dying, you just didn't let it die and you had a small zombie on your hands. About the storm, the game takes place before the storm, we had a storm in the works that was a heavier state of the board, but just run out of time and left it as the story. The game is about collecting monsters to save them from the storm, that is our original vision.

Thank you for playing the game and your comments!

Submitted(+1)

Your game is so relaxing and satisfying! I wanted to fill up the whole map with tiles but the monsters kept dying because I didn't have the right resources to buy them food. maybe unnecessarily hard but I liked the core mechanics.

Developer

I also think that it is unnecessary hard, a game jam game, you know, didn't balance it.  I wanted to do levels that got progressively larger maps and have the player go learning slowly before the big map. Thank you for your comment! As a winning strategy, get the chainsaw as soon as possible.

Submitted(+2)

The art is great, really nice animations. I felt like I could barely afford any food for the monsters so they just died out and it was hard to get more monsters to work. Gameplay was still pretty fun tho, good work.

Developer

Thanks, yeah, the game is very challenging unless you abuse the chainsaws (and even then it is not easy), I want to improve it after the Jam :).

Submitted(+2)

Wow, amazing game! The art is cool, and the music really captivated me. The gameplay feels really satisfying, and I had a great time playing it. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for your comment!! Really happy you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

Amazing art and music!
I had a ton of fun playing, for a bit of criticism, I felt the shuffle mechanic a bit confusing and the win or loose a little bit too dependant on the random placement of monsters. I had one round where all of them were grouped on the left side

Submitted(+1)

it was a great game and made me keep playing!

the only problems i had were that sometimes monsters could overlap on top of each other which made it a bit hard to feed them, and when a monster dies and in the moment of dying you give it a food, it will walk in the state of dying its funny XD
but on the other hand everything else was perfect, i loved the art style, loved the game design and music and had so much fun with it! i didnt run into any storms though...
also i would really appreciate your guys' thoughts on my game if you try and rate it please!

Developer(+1)

Once I get back home I am getting to play your game, thanks for the comments! Yeah the storm is more of an impending doom, but if we come back to the game we would like to add a storm event that makes more damage to monsters.

Submitted

hey man...did something happen?
sorry if my game didnt appeal too much or something like that if thats the case...

Developer(+1)

Sorry, I was caught in some work, have rated it now!

Submitted(+2)

Very unique type of gameplay. Took me a while to figure everything out but I saved all of the monsters on my second try. Very good stuff!

Submitted(+1)

Bookmarked it and will for sure play this again later. Really enjoyable, the mechanics are solid and it's not like a lot of things I've played before. Kudos!

Feedback:
- Honestly not much to say but if I had to give something its the tutorial. It took a bit to understand what's happening
- Also, the scaling sometimes feels slightly off. I'm not sure if the high cost for reshuffling is good, I would have made that low or even free upon all cards all depleted and just up the costs of drawing / other cards or give the cards a bit less value.

Developer

Thanks for your comment!

Yeah I am thinking on making the reshuffle cheaper as your deck gets depleted, once your deck has no cards, reshuffling could cost 1 coin or even be free. I worried that people would reshuffle too much, but you are right.
