This is really cool and was quite fun to explore but the enemies having no art let down the rest of the great visuals

How does your game fit the theme?
There is a calm phase, and a storm phase, where enemies appear and things get hectic. Also, a storm has a heart!
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, except for a few sound files (attributed) and the font (no attribution necessary)

Nice entry! As other have mentioned, this ran extremely slow on my machine every time the rain particles came on screen. It made attempting to aim the "home" projectile very difficult. I also had a bit of a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to do - it took me a couple playthroughs before I realized you can upgrade towers and also re-aim them by pressing A/D. I would recommend at least adding a "pause" screen that tells the players all of these things while they're in-game.
The theme was a bit understated as well - the "calm" period was fairly standard tower defense gameplay. It would be nice to incorporate a bit more emphasis on the "calm before the storm" for the purpose of the game jam (but of course after the jam is over, it's completely unnecessary)
I think some minimal improvements would make this game really great though!
- Fix the framerate issues
- Add a small tutorial (text dump is honestly fine, but a quick "show and tell" of each tower would be even better)
- Give the player a chance to position their weapons before starting a round
- Bowling alley OP! I beat it with 100% bowling alleys XD
It's the genre I wanted. It's really nice to grow the city and build an urban fortress. The background and art are really cool. I don't know why, but some of the homes didn't fight when I installed Home... Anyway, it is fun. Do you have any plans to publish to Steam later?
My GPU is popping off for some reason playing this game. Maybe it's the rain particles
Wish there was sound. The buildings are pretty imaginative so well done with those ideas!
Nice submission
Very solid entry! Great art design, animations, vfx and overall visual appeal. Gameplay wise it was fun to play, new buildings helps to feel the game anew and enemies were interesting to handle!
Some feedback:
- As with many games during the jam (including mine) there was not enough info to plan ahead. You don't know how buildings work before placing them. Don't understand how hard they hit and range of them. Also, you don't know whom you'll meet as enemies.
- At first there was interesting tutorial-like "select home building" introduction and I thought it will consist of several steps which will let me to know how to play. But second step never came. I quickly understand what you need to place building somewhere but wasn't sure how and what'll happen.
- Also, it feels like there some misalignment for shooter element of the game. When I hover over enemies it seems I found myself trying to guess how I need to place a cursor to hit enemies.
- When I build a second home it did nothing. I didn't understand what it is and how it supposed to work and why it doesn't shoot as first one.
- I wish there were more sounds in the game.
I enjoyed the game pretty much! Looks very nice and fun was delivered! Thank you!
You hit the nail on the head with all of your feedback! We've very slowly been developing the game further for a small improved release after the jam. All the things you've listed have either been addressed already or are on our to do list!
In the new development build (not published) we have fixed your targeting issues, and improved the tutorial messages, improved the controls in general, improved performance, and made the whole user experience a little clearer. Other things that are coming is enemy artwork (with animations), more UI improvements, better balance and wave design, an endless mode, and many more sounds and music
Thank you for taking the time for such a detailed write up! And thank you for enjoying the game!!
Really fun, loved the different buildings, upgrades and the different things they did. The bowling ball firing trajectory was awesome and the water effect was really smooth. I liked how taking control of the bowling alley allowed you to aim that big bowling ball. Nice work on the game!
Quite simple but really fun, also the graphics looks great ! Well done !
Cool game! It was fun trying to figure out the best building to pick and where to place them for the best defence. The graphics are great. Great job! :D
I really like the animation and art for this game, very enjoyable playing experience
I really like the concept ! The art is very cool, I really like the buildings animation
The game is cool and fun
The art is incredible! Personally, what I loved most about your game is the UI and the animations for it. I think the audio is the weakest point, but I understand you focused on visuals and gameplay. I also liked the originality of combining a city builder with tower defense, it’s a really nice concept!
"I live above a bowling alley and below another bowling alley"
1. Awesome animations on all the buildings, giant bowling balls, cannons, the hotel stomper is great
2. Presentation is amazing, but I found it difficult, no matter what defense i had little squares could make it to my heart anyway
3. double layer building was cool, would love to see how high it could get, I dont know if it can go above that, my game experience a huge amount of slowdown with the rain fall and crashed/i lost after 5-7 levels
love the idea and intention of this one, keep jaming!
the art is amazing and i loved the concept
i just think that the enemies were to fast, and the aim kinda hard to control -i was just shotting down while they attacked me and hoping for the bes
overall a very cool concept that could be explored a lot given time
as a lover of tower defenses, this was certainly not an exception!! i love the assets/pixel art to bits, it looks awesome and suits the game so well. you guys nailed the theme and the gameplay is very well done! i think it couldve worked a bit better with some added sounds, though otherwise this is a great game! really well done!
The art in this game is gorgeous, I would have loved to have seen what you would have done with the enemies given time. Also kudos for the animations on the buildings, really fluid and polished. Great work!
Thanks for the comment! It was actually our artist's (Silthas) first time doing pixel-art (he downloaded aseprite 2 days before the jam, he is a UX/UI designer in real life which is funny because one thing where we are lacking a bit is on the UX/UI design) and we are super proud of the end results. It looks so good :)
