very fun little platforming game! you did a rly good job making all the abilities work with each other, whilst still keeping the difficulty pretty high. great job!

Yooooo this is so cool! This whole thing seems very well thought out! I like how you made all 4 styles work and have the player understand its uses and identify situations of when each form is needed, thats some incredible game design! some sections that could've lead to deaths/screw-ups were acknowledged and were given either a forgivable respawn point or a chance of recovery by setting an extra set of platforms to give the player a chance to recover. I can tell that there was a lot of thought and experimenting put into these levels and it definitely paid off! The only style I think did feel a bit odd playing was the spider with its aiming for the websling mechanic. I also think that maybe there should have been an extra key to progress in NPC dialogue but those are just some small issues i had throughout the game. I also like the detail where the page of this game displays what could've been pulled off in that one section where you had to switch from a pumpkin to a ghost quickly, I actually took note of that when i got to that part... and was so close to getting through it!

To the whole team that contributed to this entry, you guys did a stupendous job in working together and making a well made/ well thought-out game!

Very good platformer! The changing costume mechanic is very clever!

One of the best, most polished one I've played in this jam :)

Submitted(+3)

Loved how there were different costumes that gave you access to new spaces/abilities. Very cute and fun platformer!

I like the multiform abilities. In particular, I liked using the pumpkin to roll down hills and pick up speed. It was great that the forms you acquire early on are still relevant in later levels. Switching forms felt a little clunky on mouse and keyboard, as I could only use 1234 above WASD and not the keys on the numpad. Thankfully, there weren't many sections where quick switching was required. A possible improvement may be to have the transform keys on HJKL for the right hand.

The music and spritework is excellent. It is a nice detail that the forms are found in areas that they relate to. The inclusion of the other gnomes and their comments throughout the levels adds more life to the game. I like the inclusion of the detective story element, and its resolution. Putting aside my opinion about the form switching shortcuts with mouse and keyboard, the controls felt pleasant to use and the characters felt very fast yet controllable.

A short and sweet platformer with a small side of mystery.

Thanks for playing, and I appreciate your insightful feedback. Considering there is no mouse input, I see your point about using the numpad or HJKL. That's a great idea and I wouldn't have thought of it.

Wow this was really good! The movement was really satisfying and an interesting way of making a platformer unique. The spider controls were a bit tricky on keyboard and mouse and the ghost not keeping momentum was a bit jarring but the aesthetic, gameplay was all superb!

I love this. The form swaping was suprising and very cool! Lovely cutscene and story but the end of the forest level was hard as hell. Don't know if the air control are intentionaly tricky but man - good thing you got the checkpoints! :D And thank god I keep trying because when I turned into a spider and learned I can shoot webs - my jaw dropped. And the arachnophobia mode... So funny. Definitelly my favourite of this jam! How did you make the music?

PS: Don't know how the king got there at the end so quickly. Maybe that's why he's the king.

Developer(+1)

Hello! The music was made in Reaper using YMCK's Magical 8 Bit plugin for the instruments, with self-imposed limitations to try to keep it faithful to retro 8 bit consoles.

Very cool mechanics!!! Switching to the metroid pumpkin was a nice touch! The animation on the king on the intro though, LOL had me chuckling. Solid entry! I found the wall jump a little difficult to do, like I should be able to tap tap tap tap and bounce between the walls without having to push the direction against the other wall, but that was the only thing that I felt was off, everything else was great!

Thank your for your kind words about our submission. We worked hard, but had a lot of fun building it.
The narrative behind your game blew me away. Thank you for making it.

Really satisfying movement! I especially enjoy the pumpkin rolling! Great art and level design and the music was charming as well. Great work!

I love all the character transformations, they fit perfectly with well-designed levels! The story is simple yet charming, it was fun running around the locations and finally catching the thieves! Good job, keep it up!

This game is excellent! I love the level design and the swapping mechanic. Everything is so well polished and very fun to play! Well done :D

Incredible game front to back. I love the subtle little animations and things. The design of switching costumes for different abilities was great and reminds me of costume quest which I loved. I thought the levels were interesting and honestly you have a very tight character controller, I only had issues in a few places but it gave a lot of leeway and was very fun. I also thought the arachnophobia mode was worse on than off lol. All in all excellent work here. The stuff about the character controller I thought could be improved was accidentally wall jumping off a wall I was standing next to on the ground level. I think that's my only major gripe with it, overall incredibly solid work. Good job.

Fantastic game!  Let me say first that the music is so, so good.  I actually sat and listened to the main theme through twice before I hit start on this game and I'm not sorry.  The music in the remainder didn't disappoint.  (Could I ask which music program was used to create it?).  The gameplay was also excellent -- I played to the finish and had fun with your costume-swapping mechanism and puzzles, which worked smoothly for me.  The dialogue was also great -- the "what can't they do?" one made me laugh, and I enjoyed the mushroom dad jokes.  Just an all-around fun game, nice work!

Developer(+4)

I appreciate the compliment, thank you! I wrote the music in Reaper using YMCK's Magical 8 Bit for all the instruments. I kept it as faithful to 8 bit console music as I could, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+3)

Thank you -- ahh, I'm familiar with the YMCK plugin and have tried on several occasions to get it to work on my Mac in GarageBand and it never fully functioned.  Perhaps I'll look into Reaper.  Thanks again, great work!

This game is a lot of fun! The costumes mechanic is really clever.

A nice idea and animation. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the pit right in the beginning. The gnome doesn’t cling to the wall after the double jump. Only once, I made it all the way up but then slid down when I couldn’t cling while sliding. :( PS: I was using a controller.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. If you want you could try keyboard and see if that is better. Bummer this doesn’t work for you for some reason, so sorry!!

Developer

I have not been able to replicate exactly this behavior myself, but keep in mind you do have to press the movement analog stick in the direction of the wall that you want to cling to. If you happen to try the game again, and I hope you do, we would appreciate a video of the behavior.

Thank you so much for playing, and I am sorry you got stuck.

amazing game, art and music was on point. I unconsciously keep bobbing my head to the music.

rolling as a pumpkin was so satisfying, the cling/jump needs a bit more polish though since it felt way too tight and unforgiving, some of my inputs don't register sometimes and I just fall... some input buffers should be a quick and simple fix.

Excellent game play. Love the ability swapping mechanic and the great movement puzzles. Very well done!!

Probably my favorite game in the jam so far. This was awesome to play, finished it and was glad I did.

no wayyyyyyy thank you so much

I liked that I could switch between characters and have different, complementary powers that helped me move through the level. I had some trouble with walls.

Some npcs were in the way since I had to jump near them and constantly triggered their dialogue. Maybe using another action/key (e.g. E instead of the space bar) to trigger their dialogue could've solved the problem.

Nice art!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment! That is great feedback about the NPCs dialogue, we definitely had trouble with Input in Godot so I think we wrestled with getting the dang things working for a bit at first haha.
