I don't even know where to begin with this one.

I'm amazed by both the size and quality of that game. As i write this, i still wasn't able to fully finish it, and now i find out there is actually a bunch of different endings. The writing and the story are really good, the puzzles are engaging and i love how they all seem to have multiple solutions.  The character designs are interesting, and while the style might not be my cup of tea, i can tell they got a ton of love put into them.

There are still some minor bugs that i encountered, mostly related to hitboxes being where they shouldn't be, or the opposite. I can tell a lot of that has been polished in the smaller updates, cause when i first played it on day 1 there was a lot more minor problems. I'm glad to see that you're doing your best to polish it all up, it really improved. There is also that visual glitch with the leftmost statue in the first puzzle bathroom (At least i think it's a bathroom, that would explain the slippery floor). When pushed it would randomly phase out of existence and the reappear when pushed again.

Other than that, it's a really well made game and i'll definitely give it a try again. (Still haven't figured out the Rat and the infinite corridor)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Really nice to hear you liked the game.

I've been doing my best to fix bugs as people ran into them up to the close of the  polish  period. (I thin I fixed the statue glitch a few  minutes after reading it here...direction fix was supposed to be on and it was not, whoops!)

The game probably has more moving parts, so to speak,  than anything I've worked on before, and having it done in a week meant testing wasn't comprehensive,  so  I was pretty sure there'd be a few noticeable bugs.   Nice to know my efforts to fix them up are appreciated though! I've hopefully gotten rid of anything that majorly impacts gameplay.

As far as the rat puzzle....
..maybe you just need to find something the rat likes?   :)

Thank you!
We had a chat  just after theme reveal and tried to think  of novel ways to handle the theme,  so tried to... basically implement it in multiple ways.
That it all the characters and the setting are in some way left behin d by society.   And we had fun coming up with different ways  to embody that. Poverty, obsolescence,  the loss of fame,  etc.    Always love how jams restrict you enough to boost creativity.

This game was pretty good. I didn't complete it in my initial session of playing (trying to find the last item). The character art was pretty nice and the environment fits nicely. Loved the music, was humming to it as I played. Although not much was achieved in much of technical gameplay,  as a visual novel, story driven puzzle game, it works quite nicely. Good job.

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for the kind words on the music ❤

Had a great time playing this, and got really engrossed - I didn't quite finish it as others have said but will most likely return to it at a later point to finish it! Loved the variety of music for each character and the mood was beautifully crafted through thoughtful characters and a really spooky environment. You've inspired me to try more visual novels aha ;)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!
It's always really  nice to hear people got invested in playing the game. It's definitely what we were going for!

This game is awesome! If you haven't played it you owe it to yourself to give it a go. The writing is top notch and all the artwork is custom made!!! The creators are cool af too so get in there! I loved all the back stories and the level of detail given to each character. Nora had particularly detailed dialogue and knew everything about clocks. Loved how warm and relatable each character was and the deep of the puzzles in the gameplay and the way they tied into the story too. Excellent work folks. Top marks!

Developer(+1)

So pleased you enjoyed it and it was amazing to watch it  being played on  stream.  Those of  us from the team present were really stoked,  and  the member who watched it  afterwards were really excited too!

The characters were something we really focused on,  in art, writing and  music,  so it's very gratifying to know that came through.
(And I'm pleased my reading a clock repair practice manual at 5am paid off.)

Also very pleased to hear that we are cool.  B)

Really awesome game! I'm incredibly impressed with how much of a narrative and how many levels and puzzles you were able to make in just a week! So much content and overall well written. I really do like the story and the narrative about being isolated and forgotten, definitely fits the theme. You guys somehow didn't even let any typos slip into the dialogue even though we only had a weeks time to do all of this!I'm also impressed by the unique character development. The clock obsessed Nora, the goofy bastard Luca, and the cold thug Griffon. The music was also very good, definitely has a classic SNES game feel even though it sounds modern. The artwork is amazing too, I generally think anime characters all kind of look the same but these characters are very unique with their own distinct styles. The character sprites are spot-on representations of their portraits too (or maybe its the other way around?). The moving statues were creepy and reminded me of the ones from Dr Who which I'm a big fan of. The puzzles were all well done except I had a hard time figuring out how to solve the puzzles in the moving statues area. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get the last party member to jump into the portal with me though. I'm not sure if that's the reason why this happened but my game would crash at the screenshot shown here. :(

Literally spent the last hour playing through the game and I wish I got to see the ending! In fact, I've never played a game jam that lasted more than like 10 minutes. Great work! Visual novels and narrative-based games haven't really become mainstream but you guys have made it very engaging and gotten me interested in them.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for your kind words! Everyone on the team put in a lot of effort into the game, and I think the end product came out all the better for it. I'm also really glad to hear that you enjoyed the characters, since they play such a big part of the story. It's a shame you weren't able to get through to the ending for some reason, because our artist made lovely artwork for all three endings of the game.

What follows after this is spoilers, so if you'd rather avoid those, stop reading now!

You get the last party member by pushing the statue into the shadows behind the wall and "out of the light", rather than into the pit to break it. The statue will then give you the guitar pick, and that's it. There are three endings in the game: the bad ending, the neutral ending where you only save a few party members, and then the golden ending.

Thank you so much again, and I'm glad that you enjoyed our game!

Developer

Sorry you found a bug!
Going to look into that one before the polish period is up.
The game has uh...rather a lot of moving parts  so I'm trying to fix any busted switches as I find them.

Really  nice to hear that you did have fun with the game and  felt engaged with it,  even if you hit an error.

Developer (2 edits)

UPDATE: Caught the bug!

It's supposed to play certain tracks based on who you save,  and one of the events driving the Nora-and-Griff track was set to autorun rather than parallel    so it locked you in place.
Will upload the fixed version later today. :)

This was a really cool experience, I am actually not good with horror and I don't know if you know what weeping angels are but they scare the hell out of me and seeing the statues and seeing them move just made me want to nope right out of the game. But I did my best to push through that fear. I love the music and sounds too. I think the music is something I could listen to on a loop it was really pretty. Your art style was also very nice, thank you for such a great game :)

Developer

It's great to hear such kind words about the music ❤ Thank you for playing

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed the art, interface, level design and music, it all fits together very well with the mood of the game. However, the overall sound direction could use a bit more love; ambiances very quiet, actions very loud, too snappy and very repetitive overall. These things are important to drag players into the experience you are creating. Sound is 50% of that experience!

Wonderful piece for a jam, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Hopefully tackled some of the audio  balance issues in my latest polish update.  It was just me from the team working in the engine  , and I would   freely admit to audio not being my forte,  so I'm sure it's not   ever going to blow anyone's minds, haha.
Glad you had a generally positive experience though!

Cool atmosphere, I'm a big fan of rpg horror made with rpg maker, it really made me nostalgic !

Developer

Glad to hear that you enjoyed! Before the game jam started, I'd actually gone back to watch RPG Maker Horror playthroughs to get in the mood for the game, haha.

Developer

A lot of our inspiration came from hours of fun drawn  from the old RPG Maker horrors.
They are an experience all to themselves  and we wanted to try and hit that feel. And  quite a few people seem to have caught that, so I think we were in someway successful.
Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

really nice game, I liked the art style and atmosphere, felt really eerie at times. good job!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! Our artist and composer had put a lot of time and effort into the environment of everything.

Submitted(+2)

Nice game! Really liked the art style! Reminds me of corpse party

Developer

Thank you!

You're not  wrong in seeing the inspiration.

Quite a few of us on the team are fans of some of the old-school RPG-maker horror/mystery games  like Corpse Party, Yume Nikki and The Witch's House,  so it was a tribute to them in many ways.

Not gonna knock in random doors - proceed to enter creepy grave-looking place.

Very atmospheric and eerie entry. Im not a huge fan of quests but I... like it

Developer

Well  to be fair,  Luca did not ever get murdered.

Glad you liked it  and that we managed  to convey a bit of an atmosphere!

(+2)

Excellent mix between music and environment, I felt welcomed by the house. Story and puzzle are simple but suitable for a jam of this kind, I'm sure this team will be able to delight us with some other gems in the future, keep up the good work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you!

We were obviously having to work within our deadline,  so had to try and keep things (relatively)  simple .  Our artist and composer worked really hard creating an environmental tileset and  creating  music tracks     for each of the  characters respectively,  and I'm glad it shows.

Hope we can keep making things people enjoy playing! :)

Submitted(+3)

It's amazing how you created this much gameplay in a very short amount of time! Good job, I enjoyed playing it.

Developer

Thank you!

We all put a ton of work into it over the week so I'm glad it shows.

Nice game! I loved the graphics. Sometimes I was lost in the puzzles but it was funny to resolve them

Developer

Glad you had fun!

If it makes you feel any better,  I got lost in the clock maze in testing.... and I was the one who designed the clock maze.

Great shift put in getting this done in a week. I enjoyed the ary style and the writting. I find it a bit challenging to leave this half way through, but I only have so much time to play and rate each entry. I think it is perhaps too long for a Jam and it feels a shame to not have seen everything that you have done here. I think less is more with this genre and jams too be honest. I occationally felt like my character could walk where it was not intended but it was nothing major. Generally I am impressed.

Developer

It's a hefty game   I'll admit, haha.  Even a full playthrough won't actually cover all of the content.
I think we kind of set out wanting to create a 'full package'  so to speak,  so  we did make something long by jam standards,  and had scope for replay too.

It  might be rather too chunky if you're short on time,  which is a fair critique for the jam environment,  and even before you said so I was pretty sure there were probably still some buggy areas on the maps,  ( going to try an d root out what I can in the polish period, ) but I'm glad you had an overall positive experience with it ! :)

Submitted(+2)

Visually stunning! Unfortunately, I am not a narrative fan, but the story seemed well written and I pretty much enjoyed it. Personally, the puzzles are not that interesting, but overall they fit fine in the game. Overall a really nice work :)

Developer

That's fair if it's not necessarily your cup of tea. We very much set out to create a certain sort of gam e  that was highly story -driven,  which can be a bit of a marmite thing, especially in short jams. I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless!

Ideally I would have liked to have worked on the  puzzles up a bit more,  but given how long it took me to debug the ones I did implement it's probably fortunate that I didn't, haha.  It's always a  tough balancing act between making them inscrutable or making just a lot of busy-work. It'd be fun to come back to them in the future.

Thanks for  commenting!

Whoa. This reminds me of the old school RPG games I played before. The story telling is insanse and well precised. (Huge + for the mouse selection and interaction -- good for busy people hahaha).  I usually skip the conversation on these games but the story for this one is so exciting and the music matches the mood of the story or the room prompting me to read everything. The puzzles are also good but got me confused somehow but managed to solve it in few tries hahaha. The 2D art is so awesome and the mood that the colors gave me contributes on what should I feel in the story. There are some portions of the world where if I click an area, it will not move in it/blocked by invisible wall and have to find another way to go around it. But overall, holy cow. Great game and awesome job for a game jam! :D

Developer(+1)

Old school RPG Horror games used to be my bread and butter when I was younger, largely because of the stories they told, so it's a high compliment to our game that you compared it to them! I was concerned people would just rather click through all the conversation and dialogue, so I'm glad you found it compelling enough to read through.

Submitted

Ohhh no wonder why. Awesome job guys! The (SPOILERS for other) monster summoned made me terrified and tried to click as fast as I can everywhere hahahahahahahaha
