Post jam WIP stuff.
I'm going to buy napkins...
I love the looks, the mechanic, the music!
What I struggled to understand is how to clear waves, do you just have to ram your ship into the last rock and hope you don't die? Well I died :( checkpoints would have been nice, here I gave up at the end of wave 3.
Good job on making such a neat game that quick!
That's what I found myself doing when there was just one target left and I didn't have anything to sling it into. I suppose the trick is to make sure to destroy the last ships together so there isn't a "spare" one you have to ram.
"This looks sick as fuck!" - me before playing this.
"This IS sick as fuck!" - me, as I am playing this.
I love the look of the game and the tether mechanic was generally satisfying. I did feel like when you grappled two objects together that they should slowly accelerate more as they get closer since it felt like I would be waiting a bit for the collision to happen. I also thought it was a bit unclear whether I was going to take damage slamming into something or not since it can be hard to judge what speed you need to be at some real damage.
Holy heck this is so sick. Awesome audio, killer visuals, and bangin' game design. A total homerun on this one, good work!
Love the look of this, will give it a try!
Nice take on the theme, but even better executed! Its one of those games that is hard to learn and hard to master. But its fun, i love the pulling to charge on to the asteroids/enemies.
I love me some grapling hook so this was fun! I was pretty bad at it though but that did not stop me!
Unique graphics as well, great work!
One of my favorites from what i have played! I got super engaged trying to get better at the game and played 3 or 4 runs. Everything feels amazing for a 48h jam, great idea / art / feedback / mechanics, congrats. I really wish there was a linux build and a fullscreen button / F11 binding so i could enjoy it in full glory ^^
Thx, glad you got something out of it! Redux version is in the works, it will feature all that you asked for and more. Will take a week or two though.
Wonderful presentation (sounds, music and visuals!) and also quite fun game mechanics. I was expecting the the tethering two objects together to be the main mechanic I used to defeat enemies and it technically was. But the tether boosting mechanic is so fun to try to get better at. My go to was tether any enemy ships to an object and then just spearing them as fast as possible with the tether boost. I would either quickly get rid of them or accidently fall into an object and lose all my hp (usually my own fault at not being good at the mechanic)
Very fun and pleasant experience overall. :>
Super satisfying feedback in the form of sound-effects, screenshake, visual effects and all that. the animation for the shooting tether looks so good and I love the lighting on the sprites! It's really fun to swing around stuff!
Pretty fun. This is quite a clever use of the game theme, and crashing ships into each other is very satisfying. If I had a complaint, it would be about the unintuitive controls, but the core mechanic itself is great. Good job!
Really good game, and it has a lot of potencial tinkering around with the mechanics and it fits the theme perfectly.
Fits the theme perfectly, it took a little bit to get used to the controls, after that it
was so much fun to swing around and into the enemy ships and asteroids. Also the visuals are just amazing!
Great visuals and music. The theme is well approach. :)
wow man I love it. I wish the movement speed was x2 and that objects tethered together moved faster, but I think this has some real potential. I need to know how you created that background too, it's gorgeous
Edit: I think for some reason the game was going at 0.5x speed the first time I played it due to a glitch, but coming back to it it's a lot more fun! The backgrounds are still 11/10
Thanks, so little time for actually play testing, seems like I some minor adjustments would have gone a long way.
For that background style you need to get yourself a dust brush set/space nebula brush set/space cloud brush set from somewhere like deviant art (check that the pack is really free to use). Oil spill brushes are also great but I didn't use those here. Now you just paint these brushes down in Photoshop/Gimp and you should get some nice, premade, fairly transparent dust/nebula/oil clouds with a plausible texture/composition and since these are brush sets you'll get at least 20 of them. Thats good, you need those for variance.
Something like this:
I usually make them all white so I can easily recolor them in-engine. Which basically means I assign them colors from the palette I'm using. Then you plop them down in semi regular/semi random intervals in the background, randomizing their x,y scale, angle, sprite mirroring etc. If you are worried that you are using too many objects just use fewer, bigger ones. In RT I reposition them if the player moves to far away so they basically continue forever (I also randomize them, so if you where to return to a far off point it would likely have changed, major continuity error, don't tell anyone.) But you can do much more with them. Like changing the background and their color on the fly, or have them move and parallax if you got a system for that. For an example with slightly more elaborate usage you can check out my last jam game: https://sleeper-games.itch.io/swirl-watch Peace.
Incredibly juicy and aesthetically pleasing well done!
Quite fun! I love the aesthetic and the game mechanic is pretty interesting too. Games that do swinging well are always fun. Only minor issue is it would be nice to have a full screen mode or a way to maximise the window since I kept clicking outside of it by accident. Other than that, I liked it.
The art style is really nice! The controlles took a bit getting used to, because it fells pretty slow with the turning of the ship, even tho it isnt.
Overall a really nice submission!
