Very cool game. How has litteraly no one made this idea before? Plus can you review my game and leave a comment? I'm only 13 and still learning game development, so i would really appreciate a comment.
Thanks for playing, we're glad you liked it!
I'll definitely take a look as soon as I can for you, congratulations on completing your project and participating in the jam!
It's great to see a game realized around a similar concept! Being able to change the horizontal and vertical stretch independently leads to a different set of challenges compared to our game. However, I think the game could've used more polish.
Thanks for playing 😊
What a work of art - thank you for sharing 😂 We have already discussed ways that a proper multi-level version could work
We're glad you enjoyed playing!
This is a super cool game! You got your unique idea executed really well and with funky art the level designs are great! I don't really know why after level 2 two more levels appeared in two seperate windows but maybe that's how you wanted it to be, the more levels the more windows.
The multi level thing is actually a minor bug, but it has definitely given us some good ideas for the future 👀
Thanks for playing, we're glad you liked it!
A very interesting idea. I enjoyed playing it.
Thanks for your work
Thank you for playing!
Really fun game! In the future, if you decide to polish this game, I think the resizing hitboxes could use a little work, as the actual window to resize stuff is pretty small. The character also sometimes gets stuck when it looks like it shouldn't, so I think the collisions could also use a little work! Other than that I think the game is pretty much perfect! Really fun, and I am looking forwards to seeing your work again in the future!
Thanks so much for the great feedback!
We're really glad you liked it - hopefully we can keep that going in the future!
Super cool! really like when you have to move or jump and change the window size at the same time. Did get stuck because i dragged the screen too low and couldn't get it back because the window was at the top haha.
Thanks for playing, we're glad you liked it!
We'll definitely look into that issue, thank you for sharing!
Make more puzzles and the handles easier to grab and you have an interesting game ! Congats!
Thank you very much for playing and for all of the feedback while on stream!
This is absolutely the most creative idea of the theme I've seen so far! Nice job!
Super kind of you, thank you!
Cool idea! Really nice application of the jam theme. I did get stuck against walls and ledges a fair bit though, and it was a bit hard to see whenever I needed to shrink the window down to a really small size. But a super neat premise regardless!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! The super small windows are definitely a design problem we need to look at!
Perhaps you could try an inverse approach - rather than scale the window size, you could scale the camera zoom, and scale the player inversely to the camera zoom. That way, the window doesn’t shrink down small, but instead the world within the viewport gets squashed (while the player stays the same size on the screen).
That is actually what's happening behind the scenes to make things easier when putting it together! The player scale and camera zoom are just synced so that it looks like the world is what's scaling instead.
We could definitely do with a "recentre" button or something though so you can keep scaling if the window gets too big or too small.
great game! and the mechanic of scaling the world with the game window is very fun
Thanks, we're glad you enjoyed playing!
The idea is brilliant and very interesting, and the universe and movements are really cool. However, I find that reducing or enlarging the page breaks the rhythm of the game. It took me a long time to complete each level haha Well done!
Thank you so much for playing! We will definitely be looking at improving how interacting with the scaling works (and what it's used for!)
Great mechanic! Already fun, but maybe a bit steep progression?
Thanks for playing! That's a good point for sure, we could definitely do with making the progression a bit more smooth.
This game has serious potential, so far one of the best I've played this jam. You've accomplished a lot for the jam but I think what's important is you have the bones here now for a really fun game when more fleshed out. Just some ideas off the top of my head from similar games, it would be interesting if there's some type of elements that resize differently compared to other ones, highlighted with a unique color or texture. The player's all cozy playing the game and then ooooh shiiii this block doesn't change the same way! An exciting new challenge. Also it would be funny if you resize in a way that squishes the guy, he gets squished and you gotta restart, so you have to be a bit more careful.
I think the most important thing is to find a way to make the window resize mechanic fully keyboard / controller compatible, so not just resizing by mouse. Maybe you can find some inspiration from window managers like i3wm or popOS shell? Resizing windows is a very solved problem in linux desktop environments / window managers and so you could find some interesting resize mechanics there.
I'm not sure if it was a bug but I had multiple windows open for multiple levels at once which I really enjoyed, there's some seriously sick complexity you could integrate there. Imagine if there was also a mechanic to move windows around and jump between them!
Amazing, thank you for the thorough feedback and the great ideas! In particular I think referring to other window managers (especially tiling ones!) for inspiration seems like a pretty obvious good idea in hindsight!
But yes unfortunately the multiple levels issue seems to be a bug! It happens if you touch the end flag more than once (but only on the web export for some reason) - the workaround would be to close the windows and use the level select to continue where you left off.
Nah I don't think it should be a bug then! It's a whole new form of complexity right there! If one of the core mechanics is already window management, then having multiple windows open is a key awesome part of that mechanic! Maybe even controlling multiple guys at once, maybe not, but when it happened I was like oh HELL yeah!
That's great to know, thank you! Multiple widows could be a great way to put a twist on things for sure!
Really liked the window scaling mechanic, I know that must have been a ton of work to get functional. I think I would have preferred a bigger focus on the puzzle of the mechanic, got a little tiring having to constantly size and resize the window just to platform up. Overall a really creative entry, nice job!
Great feedback, thank you for playing!
Totally agree with you that we could do more with it! Some secondary mechanics that respond to the scaling would be fun to add too and hopefully mix things up a little.
Such a good idea! I agree with the critisism of the people who commented before me but I still REALLY enjoyed it.
Thank you for playing!
I really liked the idea and I think the design of the stage is good for the idea, only the window size change was a bit annoying, but overall I enjoyed the game a lot. The card was great
Thank you for the feedback! We definitely agree, hopefully we can make the windows a little less fiddly soon 🙂
I really love these kinds of games, where you use the UI to interact with the world, and this was a really smart way to do it, and a great way to incorporate the theme. I will say that it felt a little unfinished, but I want to see this developed further, and would definitely pay for a more polished release with more levels!
That's very high praise, thank you for playing!
It would definitely be great to polish it up a little!
really great game, wish it was easier to scale the window though
Thanks a lot! Funnily enough I noticed the same thing myself when trying to play with a track pad 😅
Thanks for the feedback!
