Didn't expect the possibility of walking into the wall to get out of a hole haha. I think I glitched at the end?? I didn't know if I was supposed to try and change the slime's scale (it didn't, it just popped out of existance at one point after spamming my potions to no result) and when trying to jump over to the I think final box I fell on the spikes, but got the text of having gotten the book of knowledge as if I had won.
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes there was a glitch at the end, the book and the spikes script got mixed up and they both leaded to the end of the game haha I am sorry for that, and for the slime u just needed to scale up and crash it as mentionned there i think, nothing more. Thank you for your comment again appreciate it :)
Congrats on your first game!
Some specific things about the controls (as others have already generally mentioned), you want to aim for them to feel intentional and snappy. Getting good platformer controls can take a lot of tweaking or prior knowledge. There feels like a slight lag from when the player presses the jump button to when they actually jump, and the momentum of the forward motion is continuing during this time, which would lead to me falling off the edge without ever jumping. This disconnect feels frustrating and like it's not my fault, but the game's fault (a game can be difficult/frustrating and still feel fair). You could consider giving a few frames of wiggle room after the player has left the platform to still register the jump. You can look into GMTK's own video on Celeste to get some other ideas.
Also I think it's quite common for space to be the jump button. You could have both w/z and the space button be jump and leave it up to the preference of the player.
It's also worth considering the intention of the level design. The first level is fairly simple in design, but not simple to play though. The jumps between the platforms are difficult because of the low ceiling and the fast forward movement of the character, mixed with the low friction with the ground. If the intention is to teach the player about shrinking to get through the smaller corridor, then just do that, and just once.
Good game ideas though, which fit the theme nicely. I also liked the art and that you added a bit of story.
Thank you for your feedback ! It is really great that you took some time to write all of this ! Yes i know the controls aren't the best, as i forgot to adapt them to qwerty users. For the first level it was intended to be simple just to adapt the player to the small version, but it intended to be harder, and the tiles i used as platforms actually have holes in them that player can enter in even if i placed the collision shape all over them, which kinda felt weird for me but at that point i didn't really have time to change that. I will try to review all the bugs and difficulties people faced in the game and repair them, that's what a jam is made for, to learn hehe. Again thank you for that long detailed review, I really appreciate it :)
I had similar issue as others with controls and collisions, but I appreciate you took that into account and just allowed out of bounds movement. I think as a proof of concept its impressive, and with some polish could be really fun!
But as far game jams go, you did good and should be proud of what you made!
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes i tried to cover a bit for all the bugs i couldn't fix in time, hopefully i can make it better next time. I appreciate your kind words and encouragements :)
Very nice game jam submission! I like visuals and mages design. Godot typically has issues with colliders and I fell once out of bounds. For some reason, button for resuming didn't work and the other time i couldn't skip story to the game. Also for some reason in tutorial it said that controls are Q, D, Z instead of A, D, W. I liked the game though. Good work!
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes i had some issues with few bugs that i couldn't repair on time, i'm sorry if that made the experience a bit unpleasant. And for the movements i am a azerty keyboard user, i should have considered the qwerty users as well. I will be more prudent next time, and again thaank you for your comment :)
Don't worry, no ones game is perfect, especially since this was only 4 day game jam. Mine was not perfect as well. It's all about experience you get and learn from!
You are absolutely right ! Hope you learnt from your game and hope to see you in futur jams :)
Nice little game! Controls could be better but besides that good job!
Thank you for your feedback ! I will try to work on that in the future :)
Good game. The player control is a bit weird. It would be great if there was a coyote time feature available for the jump mechanics.
Thank you for your feedback ! I will keep that in mind :)
The game looks nice, the art style and music are very coherent and fit well. It can be a bit janky, like when I died after getting past a big spike but got the end screen instead of being able to restart the level. Pushing the box was also a bit buggy. But beyond that, it's quite enjoyable. I like that there is some story to it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your feedback ! There are few bugs i forgot to fix, like the spike one you mentionned. I will try to make sure it doesn't happen again next time . Thank you for your comment :)
Overall not bad, but that big spike has a square collider instead of a triangular one, which is a little annoying.
Thank you for your feedback ! yes i totally forgot to change the collision shape to triangle on that spike lol, but ig u should be fine if you hit it from far with the spell, and scale down. However i appreciate your comment :)
It is a good progress for game development. However, if evaluated as a game, it wouldn't be fun for normal players. To solve this, you would need more experience making games; it is normal when it's one of your first projects. And I recommend imagining the whole game from start to finish and determine every detail that produces that result. This way you can God willing make sure that reality matches your vision.
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes i still don't have experience making games, if you can develop on what u didn't like especially that would be of a huge help, and thank you again for your comment :)
Well, it's kind of hard to explain. I didn't think that deeply, it was a review based on gameplay experience. Thanks for taking it not in a bad way, because I didn't sugar coated it. You just need better artistic eye and better knowledge on game feel. Game feel is basically breaking down why something is awesome, generally it's perceived as animation, sound effects and vfx on the mechanics. DM me on discord, we can talk further if you want, there is great resources on internet. A game jam success is not that big of a deal in the long run, but if you can turn this to a chance to leverage your skills; that would be a win.
I would appreciate that, give me your discord username so i can dm you :)

Really fun little game, super solid first game project! The controls were a little unorthodox, kinda all over the keyboard, but overall, nice job!
Thank you for your feedback ! I will try to make controls easier next time :)
Very decent!
Thank you for your feedback !
A bit short sadly but it's nice for a first ever game!
Thank you for your feedback ! I will see if i can make more levels after the jam is finished :)
Nice idea, controls were decent, but being a first game I'd say it's pretty good! (my first game def can't compare)
Thank you for your feedback ! It really makes my day having such positive comments :)
Nice concept and the main character is lovely! Ok the controls need to be ironed out, and level design could go further but hey, this was nice, congrats on your first game ! :)
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes it definitely needs some improvements, will try to work on those after the jam. I appreciate your comment :)
Is the web version broken? It's stuck on the initial wall of text?
hey, no works fine for me but sometimes if u press enter too much it might bug, just try to reload the page and it should work fine :)
Lil' game for lil' wizards (or big wizards, if you press up enough times). It's got some nice atmosphere.
The moment where the big flying spike rapidly approaches you reminds me of those banzai bills from super mario world kaizo romhacks, cool to see.
I experienced some issues with collisions when scaling. That sort of thing is tricky, I'm sure with more time to develop the idea you could get it to be more consistent, keep at it!
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes maybe i will try to work on it once the jam is finished, i appreciate your comment :)
The flying spike moment is truly inspired. Controls could use a little refinement, and I'm confused about why the abilities have a limited use for a puzzle game, but I really think I could play this all day. It was fun to just mess around with the mechanics. Great job!
Thank you for your feedback ! Yes i ran out of time so i couldn't make use for everything i implemented, like the up_scale spell which was never needed in the game, and for the commands i will try to improve this next time ! i appreciate your comment :)
Enjoyed it a lot! Especially the lil panic-filled rush in the flying spikes part! Adding a small timer-based danger in a otherwise calm game is really smart! The art of Scaldris is also really cute! Nice done! :D
Thank you for your feedback ! I'm really glad you enjoyed it ! I intended the final level to be even more difficult but ran out of time and couldn't implement everything i had in mind, i will try to organise my time better for the next time :)
Hahah yeah that's classic problems! Have done a lot of jams and scope and prioritization are always a struggle :,)
Nice little platformer! A few bugs to fix, but I still had a good time playing the game! The art is nice as well! Good job
Thank you for your feedback !
Fun idea! Would have loved to see more levels and puzzles, really thought you could do a lot with these mechanics. Other than the controls feeling a little cumbersome and a few scaling bugs, thought you did great :)
Thank you for your feedback ! I will try to work on fixing bugs next time :)
