Great idea for the theme with some nice visuals! Rolling the dice is a bit slow and doesn't involve much skill you just wait until you get a good roll. Maybe you could give the character a more dynamic and complex move set then the player can roll a complex course and try to get through (which can be rewarded) or roll an easier one. Just one way to handle it but I guess you already have many others. Anyways a good job for the jam!
Thanks for coming to my stream! Here's a recording in case you'd like to refer to it
Cool little game! Congrats on finishing the jam!
I love the art style you have here. It's a little cartoony and has a lot of character. The core premise of randomly generating terrain and the weirdness of a huge hand and dice being summoned in a dungeon is great.
While the randomness of the platforms can be a little frustrating, you give players a way to reroll for better options. Unfortunately, the whole process of rolling is incredibly slow. If a player isn't actively doing something in your game, you want them to either be thinking about how to solve your game's challenge or.... or you're an idle game. Your game would feel a lot better if the whole dice rolling process took less than 10% of the time it does now. Just a quick swing by the bell and new platforms appear.
The dice roll filling in the random shape in a dungeon is a cool idea. I'd love to see it explored more. It makes me want to think up other ways to use it, too. That's the sign of a good idea.
Well done. Keep making games!
Thank you so much for the detailed review. Yes i love the core idea as well and i really wont to improve and expand on it and fix the randomness. I am planning to improve and expand the game based on all the feedback i have received. Thank you so much for specifics because that really allows me to adjust. I have tons of other ideas on how to expand it and i cant wait to share them with everyone.
Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I thought the art was really charming, and the tutorialization well-executed!
Neat little idea for combining dice with crumbling platforms. I would have liked to see it being used in more interesting ways, but this is still certainly impressive for a 48-hour jam.
I liked the main character and the sounds, the movement was also good for a platform game. The dice rolling mechanic was a bit too frustrating because many times I had to roll again in order to get a chance to go through. Jumping on them triggered some sort of slippery movement, not sure if it's the collisions that made it, but the character seemed to randomly move in one of the directions and most often it'd fall.
Thank you very much for your review, yes i definitely need to work on the movement for jumping on the platforms while they were moving. It was really more of an accident that the player was allowed to do it, and given the time constraint of the jam i decided not to fix it because during playtesting a few people liked it way better than waiting for the platforms. Unfortunately, it was never fully tested so there are some odd problems, but I intend to fix them in the expanded version.
Great artwork and presentation. The UI was very clear on what was bad and the size of the dice area. I spent a lot of time finishing all of the levels, partly because the height of the jump could use some boosting, but also because I was impatient and loved trying to jump on the dice as they were moving. Good stuff!
I really love the concept, but i feel like it relies too much on RNG. I found myself rolling over and over again. But other than that, the sprites and levels are really good. Good job :)
thank you for your review. Yeah i think the rng stuff needs to be better controlled, especially for those who choose not to jump on the platforms while they are moving, its been brought up before and im leaning towards having preset patterns for the dice to land in.
This was a really cool platformer entry! I really enjoyed it and wish there more levels! Played at https://twitch.tv/hedgein <3
Neat game -- I think you did a good job with the physics. I enjoyed jumping around and the randomly placed dice
Thank you very much.
Pretty nice concept for a game! The dice randomly choosing platforms can make for some nice interactions. The audio mixing could be a bit better as the track seemed a bit louder in game + sfx was even louder than that. The jumping was probably a bit too low as it was impossible to jump to higher dices and progress onwards most of the time. I was stuck on the same level for awhile waiting for the hand to keep rerolling which didn't really feel the greatest. If you continue on with the concept some things to look into would be coyote time and jump buffering as they really help improve the platformer experience.
edit: forgot to mention. the concept of the hand is great
Thank you for the feedback. I will look into both those things, i have never made a platformer before, so it is really helpful for me that you specified what i should look at.
no problem! Some other topics that could be helpful are variable jump height + more gravity when falling such as what is explained is this video.
thank you very much!
The concept is pretty unique! I liked how the dice were used to create steps to collect the keys and to pass on to doors! The mechanics are also really well developed, and I look forward to another version of this game!
BEST OF LUCK:)
The concept is really great! The presentation and music are good as well and the game is fun to play... Excellent work!
The idea is great, the art is nice, the music is definitely a highlight (although it only plays in one ear for me) although the game can be frustrating since the dice don't lineup in a way that you can actually beat the level which normally requires a lot of rerolls, I think if you added a way for the player to stop the dice which would open the gate for more puzzles and timing. Other then that, great job!
thank you, that is actually a really great idea.
I love the concept for this game! However, most of my time is spent waiting for the dice to settle, and if my dice are in a bad position I have to do that animation all over again which gets annoying after a while. If you improve that, this would be a super great game. The player controller could also use a little more work because it feels hard to control sometimes. The character designs and art look great though and I really think with a little more polish this could be a very good game. Great job!
thank you very much. I fully intend to fix the dice situation and release an expanded version.
Loved the character designs and art for this. I think it would benefit from speeding up the dice rolling section as I mostly found myself just waiting for the dice to settle. Great idea though, I'd love to see where it could go.
Thank you so much! I am happy to hear you love the character designs. I am planning to expand the game next week and improve the whole dice throwing mechanic to be faster and more reliable.
Wow the character design it top notch! Loved the little knight
aw thank you. Character design is my favorite part.
I liked the concept, and the massive hand drawn hand was really funny! Unfortunately I got stuck at one of the later levels because a die hit me on the head and pushed me into the wall. Other than that, very polished and fun game, good work.
Thank you for playing, you are the second person to mention this bug, believe it or not no one thought to go under the dice while they were moving. I really loved your game btw.
Thanks so much! For the jam, don't stress out too much about the bug, I still found that I was able to get a good feel for your game.
This was a pretty unique concept! I had a bunch of fun playing and I like what you were going for. The movement was decent, however personally I didn't really like how heavy and lumbering the character felt to move, that might just be me being picky. The dice platforming was a very interesting mechanic, however it created a bit of a strange difficulty curve where your success in a level is almost 100% down to whether you rolled lucky on your first goes or not, it would've been nice if there was at least 1 way to beat every combination (Although I understand that's difficult to do with RNG). Overall not bad! I'd love to see an expansion of this.
THank you so much for playing. In the expanded version i intend to do dice presets that can be rolled to ensure that the player always has an option, with extra rewards for taking a harder dice roll.
While I do like the concept, I don't like it's execution. You basically just keep waiting until the dices get in the correct position, there's no skill or fun in that. With that being said, the graphics are really nice and the song choice is really good, the platforming is also pretty well made.
thank you for your honest take, I agree and its the first thing im fixing for the extended version. I am glad you liked the graphics.
This game looks really cool and was very fun! I must say I got a lot of enjoyment out of clearing the levels but the difficulty curve was kinda hard and the hand took a while to shake so making that faster could've made the game more fun, additionally the music restarting every level inst ideal but man the music sounds awesome when you let it play! the art also looks super cool and overall the game was really fun!
