Well done. Starts out a little slow but ramps up fast

Rogue is OP lol

Developer

We love rogue in this house

Submitted(+1)

This rocks so hard, it feels great and you can really appreciate how much you polished it, loved the different late game classes, cant wait to see your next game!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it

Submitted(+1)

I absolutley love this, you have made a total gem, visually and mechanically!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)

I’m usually not a fan of roguelikes, but this game completely blew me away! The music was such a vibe. It looping the in background was so good and actually very simple (which means despite looping, it wasn't boring or too repetitive). It really added to the whole atmosphere without being overwhelming, which I really appreciated
The graphics were another thing that I really like, they were very clean, polished, and just super satisfying to look at lol

What really surprised me though  is how game is so well balanced and polished feel, especially considering the fact it was made in 9 days, so hats off for pulling this off.

But only problem I have with this game (which might be a me problem) is how at first I couldn't really understand how is game fitting the theme, I only realized once I read the form answer for the Jam and realized that the dice combining is what makes game fits the theme. Sure it absolutely is unique, and game absolutely is awesome but that was only a thing I didn't like.

Other than that, good job!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I hope you had a good time

At first I was going to make a little narrative about how our memories and perception change and reshape and bla bla bla, and use it to justify the theme and the dice merging mechanic... but in the end I just really wanted to make a dice game. I sprinkled bits of this narrative idea in the tutorial, and that was it. Maybe this game fits better with "Alchemy" or "Transformation" themes.

Submitted

Fair! I do agree, (skippable) into sequence with tiny bit of story that would justify the theme would be super cool!

Submitted

Jorel... I will say one thing...

I spent 5 hours playing your game.

On a more serious note, I love the mechanic of mixing and merging, it is so clever! I mean most of the stuff was said by others but, oh my, it's so very juicy and satisfying to play, sfx and vfxs perfectly melded together! I adored discovering every class and finding the most broken of builds (gambler, bard, knifer, enchantress I'm looking at you) It is quite something to witness, especially when getting a few hundred rerolls: it really felt like an enjoyable scoring heaven!

The only negative aspects for the game is QoL really: I wish there was some like Dice-o-nomicon to catalog the different die and the combinations to get to them, even on the 5th playthrough I still was mixing up how to get the pair cleric/spellblade and or the pair dancer/ranger.
Another problem I had is the sorting dice options sometimes broke some dices. It seems the sorting animation stops the rotation of the dice, and if that one dice didnt finish rolling it will be lost for the turn, unfortunate but a little issue I found out about

But that's a nitpick, this game could be released in early access and I would raise an eyebrow and say: "this is early?"

Amazing submission of course, I'm amazed you pulled this off alone in such a short timespan, please make it into a full game!

Developer(+1)

My god.... 5 hours??? I don't know if I should thank you or apologize... (but really, thank you)

I thought about adding a catalog where you could see the combinations you discovered, but that would take a lot of time. I spent two entire days just to make the dice merging screen. It was pain.

I also think I forgot to disable collisions and reset angular momentum when dice is sorted. I tested it a couple times and thought it was good to go. I'll work on some small fixes, maybe balance the encounters and some of the dice classes a little bit, but I don't plan on making a full version any soon. I have another game of mine on the burner right now.

Again, thank tou so much for playing the game. If you are craving a great dice rolling game, give Slice&Dice a try. It was my main inspirations for this one, really great game.

Submitted(+1)

Really? Is it just dice merging screen that was difficult to make or are you talking about the mechanic of merging itself? Cause that definetely sounds like pain haha...
Small fixes is what the game needs, I think the fundamentals are just so fun that even encountering one bug or two did not deter me from playing!
I'll look into Slice&Dice, thank you for the recommendation! And I wish you the best of luck and fun on the game you're working on! :)

Developer

I was having a really hard time figuring out how to design the screen itself (looks and functionality). Then I had a really really hard time making it. And then I had to make the dice merging work on top of that. But I'm happy how it worked in the end. I wanted a very tactile menu, you know?

Good luck on your dev journey too :)

Hello ! Great great game. I feel like everything have been said in the other comments ! If you add currency/loot/shop/relics with maybe a tad of procgen you get a game that you can sell on steam !! I hope you'll keep working on it after the jam ?

One minor thing I would change (just to give you constructive criticism) would be to make some labels 3D so that they would move with your cool moving panels.

Developer

Hey! Thanks for playing and for the feedback :)
I'll probably make a small update after the jam, but that might be all for now

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

fantastic game! solid game play loop and dice merging is so freaking cool i would play this for hours if ever make a full game of this lol all 5s from me

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much :)
I took a lot of inspiration from Slice&Dice. If you liked my game, you should really check it out. It's very very good

Submitted(+1)

Not much to say here...game is fantastic!  I'm a fan of Slice & Dice myself, and I like the merging mechanic twist you added to the dice!  There's a lot of *really* nice "juice" elements in this game...I really need to work more on that for my future game jam submissions.

Truly a nice job, well done!

Developer

Thanks!

I think the game charger for me was learning how to use tweeners. All the animations in this game (aside from the dice rolling, which is done with the physics engine) were done with tweeners. This tutorial about pixel perfect VFX also helped a lot. You can draw a bunch of quick HD assets and instantiate your particle effects in different subviewports.

Submitted

oooh thanks for this! I'll check it out!

Developer

I just watched your stream vod. Thanks for playing it on stream :)

This is my first 5/5 across the board (except for audio, which was really good, but I like to reserve those for the people who made it from scratch). This is a professional quality game that you should definitely think about releasing. The game crashed for me twice on web which is a bummer, but other than that this was such a great game. I combined the dice once and I was like "cool." But then when I combined the dice again to make assassin, that felt amazing. Great entry!!

(+1)

Excellent entry. This is pretty much spot on what people should aim for when they participate in a game jam.
Couple minor bugs:
The dice go in the wall while rolling. (minor)
When using the auto arrange feature dice would sometimes be stuck on edge and I couldn't use them because they never "finished rolling."

Only thing I would add is a "tech tree" that shows what combinations you have made/can make.

Developer

Hey! Thanks for playing and for the feedback. I'll hunt these bugs down, don't worry.
I skipped the tech tree because I felt it would take too much time, but it would be really cool to have one so you could see all your discovered dice

Submitted(+1)

Really well polished game! I appreciate you calling out the inspiration. I had fun guessing what combinations would do what. Would love to see a tree of unlocks after you play.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I tried to give it my own spin, making it was a lot of fun.
I was going to add an unlock tree but time ran out of time

Fantastic work! It is exceptionally well implemented, very smooth and catchy. The only issue - I've played hundreds of hours of Slice&Dice, and this game is veeery similar, almost to a clone level :) And for experienced Slice&Dicer it is a bit too easy :D

The battle itself was a bit tedious at first, before you got all 5 dice, but it was really encouraging to keep playing to see what are the other classes. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!
I really wanted to make a game with dice and I also really like Slice&Dice. I tried to give it my own spin, but I can't say the games aren't very very similar. First thing I did after submiting it was put a link to Slice&Dice on the game's page.

Submitted

Sure, no occusations! :) This is a fantastic implementation!

Also waiting for the full version of your Jenga game!

Developer(+1)

That one might take a while, unfortunately. I'm a little burned out on the project right now

Submitted

Totally understand

Submitted(+1)

Astounding. This is a game I didn't want to stop playing. I got to the Orbmancer and lost, how much further was there? I have to know.

Everything in this game is so polished and so fun. The combining of dice to form new classes is so well done and has so much depth.

There was a 10 second pause the first time each debuff was applied to me. Bleed, Poison, Fire. But that didn't hinder my experience, mostly just letting you know something there could be optimized.

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you had fun!
The Orbmancer is the last boss

Submitted(+1)

How did you end up doing the dice physics? From what I can tell it's 3D dice on a plane is that correct? When were working on our dice game we weren't familiar enough 3D to want to attempt it but it seemed like it had a lot of advantages.

Developer

I followed this tutorial for the dice and put some parts of the 3D world inside separate SubViewports. Rest of the game is all 2D, I faked 3D with this shader for the UI.

Submitted(+1)

Please make a full game

Developer(+1)

I'll probably work on some updates, but you can check out Dice&Slice if you are really craving a good dice game :)

Submitted(+1)

Please make a full game

Submitted(+3)

This seems like a professional game you could sell on steam right now.

Submitted(+1)

This is a really polished and satisfying experience, from the UI to the chill music, and the reroll is a great mechanic for just getting a few more chances at those good rolls.

Submitted(+1)

I'm a sucker for "alchemy" mechanics, well done!  I don't know how you always manage to deliver such good games, maybe your super power is scoping well?  I didn't write down all the combinations I found but I enjoyed all of them except the gambler, with either the pyromancer or vampire being my favorite.  The only "issue" is sometimes the dice would overlap nearly completely but the popup made it not an issue.  I also have to admit I was a little confused by the "cantrip" dice but it quickly made sense and I understand the wording.

Developer

Hey! Thank you for the comment, I'm glad to hear you liked my other games as well :)

I choose to remove collision between dice to avoid some weird behaviours that came up. You can toggle "sort dice after rolling" in the options menu to avoid overlapping.

Amazing! I don't remember playing a jam game that captivated me so much. Everything is very polished, the tutorial is impeccable, and the gameplay is beyond fun. I finished it in about 30 minutes, my favorite dice was the sniper. If there were more dice combinations I would keep playing until tomorrow 😄

I played in the browser, it ran smoothly, the only problem is a freeze when a particle material is instantiated for the first time. But this is an old problem with Godot, there are some workarounds, but it should be fixed in version 4.4.

I'm looking forward to playing your next games 🖐️

Edit: I wish I had participated in this jam so I could rate your game.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much, Mr. Cadori!
Glad you stopped by to leave a nice message and play my entry. I'm also looking forward for your next games :)

Submitted(+1)

love this one. great concept for a roguelike. very fun to combine the dice, and you naturally want to see all the different dice types. the UI is excellent too, and helps the feel of the game a lot (balatro player?). the hover menu into hover menu when looking at the die sides is good design. awesome job dude. grats on the submission!

Developer

Thanks! I do play a lot of Balatro, you caught me haha
