Very special game! I like story telling games and this is a really unique game.

I actually love the drawing parts LOL. The spinning brush fits the story that the character didnt paint for a long time and feels hard to control his hands and tools. Its satisfying for me to draw without goals or purpose, just swing the brush and draw.

Since the story mentioned the character quitted "pills", so its kind of reasonable that the world gets more and more wired for him. And this design is amazing!

Love this game and the experience it brings to me!

Developer (1 edit)

Hey! Thank you very much for the review! Glad you liked the mechanics, it generally seems hit and miss. I wanted to make the brush rotate around a different pivot on different days, but I was out of time. I also wanted to implement shaking hands when creepy stuff is happening, but did not have enough time for that either.

Super happy you liked the game, the experience and found the painting satisfying regardless. I wanted to extend the story a little by explaining which pills or what happens, but I figured out that it would be actually bad for the story and letting players fill the holes in the story themselves is actually a better option. Thank you again for the very well written review!

I wanted to rate your game back, but it seems that it’s Windows only. I am unfortunately stuck on Mac for few weeks, so I cannot rate it back. Too bad, your game looks amazing from the screenshots! Super sorry about that. :(

Ohhhh!! Your original ideas sounds sooo amazing! It would be super interesting if the time permits XD. Still its very very nice game now! Really enjoy it!

Thanks a lot for liking my game!! This is the first jam for me and my teammates, so glad you like it! It means a lot for us :D
And dont worried about the rating things lol. My teammates and I are working on a post-jam version now, we will try to build it runnable for Mac system as well!

Developer

Glad you like the ideas! Hit me up when you have Mac or HTML5 version, I would love to check it. :)

Interesting way to have in this storytelling, creative use to make the player feel creepy while using bright tone asset.

I find the "Juicy" part of the story started late which make the game feel draggy. So either has more variety in gameplay to entertain the player till that part or have the "Juicy" part trigger often. Rotating make it hard to draw too.

overall, a fun way to tell a story by painting. I didn't expect GameMaker can be coded to be like MS paint.

Developer

Thank you for your review! I didn’t expect Game Maker to be this versatile either, but in the end, it was actually not that hard to implement at all! Just a surface and the correct sprite placement. You are definitely correct with the juicy parts starting too late. I wanted it to take a little while to freak the player out, but I would do a better job if I let them appear much sooner. It is my curse to make games that are too long for the jams. Glad you liked the game!

I wanted to rate your game back, but it seems that it’s Windows only. I am unfortunately stuck on Mac for the next two weeks, so I unfortunately cannot rate it back. Super sorry about that. :(

It's definitely a game that gives you a unique experience. I never thought a game like this would come out. Admire how assets are used.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! Glad you enjoyed the game and liked how the assets were used. And it was even funny as well - brushes are actually foliage assets and the handle is a disproportionally rendered gunshot from certain top-down tower defense asset pack. Kenney will tear me apart if he sees this. :)

And I see that I already rated your game!

Wow, that was a very unique experience! The sound effects freaked me out, especially the one near the end, it gave me goosebumps 😨. Really enjoyed playing a game so different from the rest, great job! ❤️

Developer

Hey! Thank you for your feedback. Glad the game worked well to freak you out and you enjoyed it (I think). That brings me the most joy! :) And I appreciate you playing it all the way!

I see I rated your game already, it is still my favorite one. :) Cheers!

Very weird but very cool experience :)

I did a real piece of abstract art on the last day ^^

Great work  !

Developer

Hey! Thank you for comment! Glad you liked the experience. And Friday is indeed great for abstract art. :)

And I see I rated your game already. :)

Game was a bit too long for my taste but i enjoyed playing as schizo Bob Ross, wish there were more denpa/schizo parts to it like friday and that it started getting weirder faster but that's just me liking that kinda stuff. It's a shame you can't see your paintings after finishing it tho.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your feedback! Glad you liked the schizo parts. But you are definitely correct - the game is too long. I was making it much shorter few hours before the Jam end, but I could have made it even shorter. Seeing painting in the end souds like a great idea! I am thinking about finishing this game post-jam, so if I do, I will definitely implement that!

And I see I rated your game already. :)

Interesting take on the theme! I enjoyed the story parts, but the actual painting part kind of dragged on, I wish the timers were shorter, or there was some kind of submit button to get to the next part

Developer

Hey! Thank you for the feedback. Glad you liked the story parts! I was shortening all events heavily few hours before the jam end, but you’re definitely correct that they could still be shorter.

I wanted to rate your game back, but it seems that there is no Mac build. I am unfortunately stuck on Mac for the next two weeks, so I unfortunately cannot rate your game back. I am very sorry about that. :(

Friday was.. intense. I'm left a bit unsettled and that's probably the game hitting the mark. Great interpetation of the theme by the way!

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thank you for your comment! In that case, the game hit the mark exactly as I wanted it to do! I appreciate the fact that you played the whole game (it’s very amusing to me that I can tell how long people actually played it from the replies) and found out that it’s not really just about painting, but there is something much more darker in it. :)

And I see I rated your game already!

This is both relaxing (surprisingly) but also silly. I thought the rotating brush would be annoying to control but it merely added interesting shapes to my design which is not a bad thing. :D

Developer

Thank you for your comment! Glad you found the game relaxing and rotating brush not so annoying — I actually wanted to make brush rotate at the beginning of the handle for one or two days, but I was out of time. However, if you want some interesting looking shapes, I recommend playing until Friday, shapes get really interesting on that particular day. :)

Submitted(+1)

Very interesting game, I loved the concept and the take on the theme. The rotating brush led to some very interesting looking trees. Great job on the game!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for your comment! Glad you liked the game and the concept. If you want some interesting looking trees, I recommend playing until Friday, trees get really interesting on that day. :)

Intresting concept for rotation. In a good way.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! I am glad to hear that you liked the concept. :)

I wanted to rate your game back, but I am stuck on Mac for the next two weeks and it seems that your game is Windows only, so it seems that I can’t rate it back. I am super sorry about that. :(

The narrative was a surprise for a game jam game, but in a good way. Kind of feel that I painted better with the spinning brush than I ever could normally. Great job. definitely an interesting way to interpret the theme

Developer

Hey! Thank you for your feedback! Interesting to hear that you painted better with the spinning brush. Maybe it should become a standard way of painting! Just kidding. I was actually planning to have one or two days when the brush would spin around the beginning of its handle, which would make it significantly harder to draw, but unfortunately, I was out of time. Maybe next time!

Already rated your awesome entry. :)

What a lovely experience. Absolutely loved the naration. The fact that the brush spun faster as the character was panicking, the changes in the objectives, such good storytelling through gameplay. Made me feel a lot of stuff in such a short time. Amazing work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your comment! I can’t describe how happy I am to read that you noticed these small details. I made a system when it was relatively easy to change them as the game went, but it was a lot of busywork. I am equally happy to see that you went all the way through the game!

I rated your game (where aliens have much cuter role) as well. :)

Submitted(+1)

Mario Paint has nothing on this B)

Jokes aside, really cool concept & game! The narration is also great, I have a soft spot for games that mix cutesy with borderline creepy :') Great job!

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thank you for your kind words! I am super glad to hear that you liked the narration and the game’s creepiness as it progressed further. It was supposed to be therapeutic and relaxing game at first, but I couldn’t help myself!

I also rated your game back as well. :)

Relaxing game! Rotated brush makes strokes look artistic.

Developer

Hey! Thank you for your rating and feedback. I rated your game as well. :)

Original theme use, very intresting. The paintings on screenshots looks the way better than mine :D

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Glad you liked the theme. My friends painted quite a few extraordinary things that I, unfortunately, cannot share due to their explicity. Sky is the limit, really. :)

Submitted(+1)

The game is fun and even though you have a certain time to paint i felt it was relaxing while i was painting. I liked the starting dialog, but i didn't went further than that because it seemed it could become some dark depressing stuff and i don't do well with this kind of stuff.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! In that case, you made a right decision - it gets darker and darker the longer you paint. Maybe I could create a free painting mode after the jam with nothing happening for true relaxing experience. :)

Rated your game back as well!

I like how there is a whole story here, especially considering how little time we had to come up with something. Good job with the way you used the assets and theme! It's even a little spooky, I enjoyed it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your feedback! I am super glad that you liked the story. I started and I couldn’t stop. :) I wanted to rate your game back, but unfortunately, I am stuck on Mac only for the next two weeks and it seems that your game is Windows only, so I can’t rate it back. Super sorry about that. :(

Don't worry about it! Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to make the game available on mac, but it's something we'll definitely remember to do in the future.

Submitted(+1)

At times I even felt a little spooked. I definitely did not expect that!

Developer

Thank you for your review! Mission accomplished then. Can’t have a peaceful painting with me, haha! Rated your game back as well. :)

I loved to be depressed Bob Ross for a moment. Its a cool concept, and the visuals are well put together. Would like it to be a little more interactive.

Developer

Thank you for the review! I wonder if Bob would approve of this game. Probably not, ha! You raise a good point. I wanted it to have more interactive with more objects on the screen, but the timer was unforgiving.

I rated your game back as well!
