Description
Didn't know I was given another chance to be in the competition, even if it is a late submission by the rules at least I can be a part of it one way to another, Thanks Lone Rabbit.

Though I had to edit the cover page again so sorry about the weird sword graphic, it didn't fit the aesthetic I hoped for. I used Canva to make this art cover

I made the entire soundtrack in LMMS as my DAW mainly using the soundfont VST.

Context of the imaginary game:
My imaginary game involves a retro 8 bit Legend of Zelda game where a knight in shining armor saves a princess in the evil castle but then everything is transported to the real world, not just the princess and the knight but all the monsters in that castle. It turns out that was a video game and the knight was just the main character in it. Now the knight has to find the princess again but in a entirely different setting and style since he will start navigating through a world where there are no monsters known.

The track is technically unfinished but how it works that its mostly a chiptune track but changes to a more classical and electronic track as the main character goes to the real world

Message from the artist
First JAM I've ever had, I'm pretty much inexperienced in using DAWs especially when it comes to mixing and using actual instruments. Forgive me if it's too loud or soft in some tracks

Theres also story content and my thoughts on the music in my project page, please take a look into it whenever you listen to my songs

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
My interpretation for the theme "Inside my World" is simply a reverse Isekai situation, a subversion of one of the most popular anime genres. its where fantasy characters come into the real world. like a wizard suddenly appearing in the busy city or a dragon coming out from a highway tunnel. Examples of the reverse Isekai would be like Devil is a Part timer and Re:Creators.

In this context, what if an old game gets transported to the real world? people suddenly seeing a new color after seeing only limited colors from their game consoles, monsters looking at the towering buildings of a busy city, a hero in a world where people are in a more peaceful and prosperous state.

for a spoiler alert in the game, when the hero finds the princess again in the real world, she refuses to come back since she can see all the wonderful sights of the real world aside from the 8-bit graphics. It creates a unique conflict as the world has to adapt to this new kind of change.

It's good that you have used a leitmotiff in your work!

Castle is my favorite one! And I love the creative decisions you've made in Transitions.

Works like yours make me want to listen to more chiptune music. Thank you!

Submitted

You absolutely killed this, experience or not. Really well done!

Submitted

It is plain that you mastered chiptune music! Really liked your submission, lot of good rhythmic ideas, Great job!

Submitted

Even insofar as some of the tracks are basic, they are very cohesive and adhere vividly to the theme which is something you honestly did better than me and a lot of the experienced jammers.

Battle, in particular, was really delightful.  Like one of my favorite tracks of the jam.  It pulled off that absurd motif and had really a catchy melody and bassline and the layering was restrained but kept it interesting. And the effects in Transition were satisfying.  And the waltzy call-and-response in A New Light felt nice and warm

I said it before and I'll keep saying it until someone made me shut up : chiptune is a really hard kind of music to make. And yet, you did it very well ! You said you are pretty new to using daw, yet you already have a characteristic way of composing, a personnal way of doing chiptune, that's impressive as fock !

I like the high attacks/slower fade-ins/lower velocity (whichever it may be) on some of the instruments that really give some dynamics to some of the instruments. My favorite track is a sign, I am kind of addicted to that one low note that repeats. This theme is pretty cool, and I think the tracks are pretty cohesive and I am able to recognize the leitmotifs on a first listen (I am not good at that) so I would say that is a sign of good clarity and composition. Overall, this was a nice listen, Great work!

This is soooo good! The ideas here are awesome! I really believe every track here at least has the potential to be great, if it's not already.

It's easy to hear you have a solid grasp on composition and music theory. I love your use of time signatures (I'm a sucker for 5/4) and interesting harmony.

Also, a special shoutout to the battle theme for being so groovy it hurts!

I'm really glad you were able to be submit this ost, and I reaaally hope you decide to finish and polish it, 'cause it's genuinely fantastic!

Should have WAY more ratings. I followed you on Soundcloud and expecting to hear more from you!!

Always great to see a fellow chiptune entry! It's nice to see how creative others can be in this genre and it definitely inspires me to try new things with my music as well. I'm glad you got to submit cuz this is a really nice soundtrack where all the tracks feel connected to one another. Also that battle theme goes hard. Good stuff!

Submitted

really loved the different iterations as it goes from chiptune to real, thats such a cool idea

yo! i’m a sucker for chiptune, so i enjoyed this ost! the chiptune is very game boy-esque, and then there’s some introduction of more real sounding, acoustic instruments. i read you project description after listening and saw that that was intentional! super cool! honestly pretty impressive for someone still getting familiar with daws. my favorite tracks were the princess and a new light

I am not a particular fan of chiptune but it always amazes me how much someone is able to make with these limited sounds! Good work! Love that bass in Battle track, good punch!

Submitted

I know you were rushed but i think you still delivered something very cohesive which is something to be proud of! I like the story twist yo added with the princess, and think overall you caught the essence of those SNES era rpgs super well. Really hope we get to hear more of your submissions in future jams, hope to see ya around!

thanks for the support, I hope I will improve my craft to make even better music.

I want to know how you do this chiptune song. What vst do you use and how do you organise your session ?
Nice job dude

Developer (1 edit)

soundfont vst with a 8 bit soundfont i found on the internet, sometimes I also use a wavetable vst if I want it to be more specific with some sounds particularly the castle theme

Submitted

Nice work ! I quite liked the Battle track and I also found the stylistic evolution interesting in the last few tracks, it brought some nice variety (maybe you were inspired by Evoland for this evolutive part in the stylization ?).
Anyway good job for your soundtrack !

Developer(+1)

Never heard of Evoland but I would like to check that out thanks to you!

Oh, my favorite genre is chiptune)

Feels like a great atmosphere of old games (Thanks style!). I'd love to play a game with this kind of music....

Thanks a lot for the stylish soundtrack!

P.S. the bass in Battle is simple and beautiful, heh)

Developer

As one may say "Simplicity is best", though I did add something that gives an identity of sorts

Submitted

Right! You definitely have some personality in your soundtrack!

Submitted

i liked the story you wrote for this, and the musical shift between them has fun! great job, and im glad you got to submit!

Submitted

I like the main menu theme best!  And I'm glad to see someone else using an 8Bit style!

Submitted

I'm happy for you this got accepted! It's a nice entry for sure!

The transition in the song Transition is really interesting. I love the sudden change in instrumentation and rising tempo. The reuse of "The Princess" theme in "A New Light" is also nice, it ties these songs together, giving the soundtrack a better identity.

Sonically, I find some of the synths too harsh at some points (like beginning of Transition). But some other parts are really nice - I like the first song, "Main Menu" the most.

Developer

I actually planned to make more songs being remixes of the chiptune version but didnt have enough time to do so, but I'm glad you liked that part of the soundtrack.

Submitted

It's criminal how little attention this has gotten! The chiptune takes me back to the NES days and I can see myself doing some dungeon crawling to many of these tracks. Nice of use of odd meter and making the most out of some challenging sounds to navigate.

Developer

Thanks a lot! I was already tripping when I realized I could make a song at 5/8 meter as the castle theme, though most of the songs were still at 4/4 except for the princess and the new color being at 3/4.
