Game Synopsis:

"CHROMATICA" is a an imaginary, anime-inspired action RPG set in a distant future where technological advances have allowed humans to preserve their consciousnesses after death in digital form. Stored in a central computer known as "MONARK", elite groups of humans known as "divers" regularly attempt infiltration of its consciousness data by uploading themselves to the network, for everything from espionage to entertainment to digital murder. Each digital brain has its own unique biome and methods of fighting back invaders, as determined by its owners personalities and interests. Yula, an artist-turned diver, is a member of the clandestine Unit 327 - but when a mission goes wrong and her unit betrays her, Yula is left to fend for herself and escape from the deepest recesses of MONARK on her own. But there's just one problem for those looking to pick on her - her mind is very, very colorful.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Track 1: CHROMA FINALIS - After Kallan's sacrifice, Yula manages to escape from the seventh sector and confront her betrayers. As they begin an assault on Yula's mind, she calls upon every brush stroke, elation, sorrow, and frenetic thought about the universe she's ever had to exact her triumphant, colorful revenge.

(I didn't have the full time for this jam so unfortunately there's only one track in this submission)

Message from the artist
Hi all! Emileiion here - though I actually go by EmilTwo on my other socials now (though I might change this name again soon hah). I'm a game dev based in NYC with a deep love for music, especially soundtrack things. In terms of my music background, I'm a violinist by trade and also play a bit of piano. Some of my favorite games/media include Nier, soulsbourne, and eva. For this jam I was pretty short on time given my other obligations (family vacation), so unfortunately I was only able to finish a single track. I'd definitely liked to have added some softer more lyrical stuff if time allowed, but in any case, I sort of just felt a wonky artcore/orchestral type mix for some reason and put that stream of consciousness to paper. Hope you all enjoy!

I used FL Studio 21 for this project - violin parts live recorded by myself, all other instruments sampled/synths.

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
For this track, the phrase "Inside my world" gave me a vision of something highly chaotic and colorful, like the inside of a very restless person's mind. I went towards making a track that had an almost frenetic/frantic energy, with many switchups, mood changes, and different instrumentations (see the description for more info/context).

Easiest 5 stars of my life too!

Wow, there's a lot of things going on here! The anime inspiration is very clear and I love how those parts of the story are all interconnected and represented in the track. the strings, the piano, glitches.. The track is amazing, violin parts are breathtaking!

Thank you!

Everything I could have hoped for. Jaw drop and slow clap.

This was so good. Such a great take on the theme with the synopsis, and it's reflected in the track as well. The strings were awesome, and when the strings took a break, the piano and electronic instruments took over beautifully. I truly have nothing to say here, I loved it.

Very good artcore arrangement!!!! Really big fan of the short release piano runs, and especially a big fan of how you proccessed the strings!  Definitely gave off NiER vibes in terms of arrangement and melody construction.  Mix was very clean, very spacious, and allowed inst. sections to have their turn.  Awesome work!

Developer

It's kinda interesting you felt like it gave of nier vibes. Nier is definitely one of my favorite games/OSTs, though I wasn't thinking about it at all while making this. Guess it has a way of slipping in haha

Chroma Finalis - Already off the bat the intro gives me Fire Emblem vibes into that electronic phase which gives me more PS2 JRPG vibes as well as something you would here in Beatmania IIDX/DJ Max RESPECT. someone better make a beatmap for this! Love the transition back to the string section everything fits so well together.

Very amazing work!

My head was bopping the entire time! I was impressed by your composition, arrangement, and mixing. The highlights for me were the piano and that emotional string section! This was an inspiring submission, thanks for sharing this!

This was fantastic all the way through, my jaw was on the floor! Your piano lines and how it goes back and forth between all these super fast melody lines and providing some excellent support for everything else! Everything carries over so well from different part, and when it all culminates in that gorgeous violin playing you had me sold on this whole project. I don't know much about mixing, but i did just want to comment on how excellent it did still sound in this aspect, everything felt really well incorporated to me and it made for a super enjoyable listening experience, good job!

Thank you! I appreciate how specific you are with the things you liked.

holy SHIT this is so good!!! great job!!!!!

This tracks an absolute banger. I want to know how you write these fast riffs everywhere. Do you happen to have videos or anything of you writing? I think it’d be so cool to watch the process. Great track!

Developer

Thank you! As for the fast riffs, there isn't anything super particular I do. Usually it's just fiddling around on the piano for a vague idea, then trying to develop a concrete vision for that in my head, and then experimenting with plugging in random midi arpeggios/scales and whatever else comes to mind

Oh my god, everything about this is exceptional. I'm not usually a fan of electronic music, but you've completely changed my perspective. I'm amazed and pleasantly surprised. This is now my personal favorite.

good lord this is insane, i wasn't expecting to hear artcore in this jam, but you've done it exceedingly well.  more please

True masterpiece. I think it's best (or, at least one of the best) works in this jam. Sounds a bit like touhou music (in a good way).

Love the vibe! The mix of orchestral and electronic is so good! Great job!

The fact it's just one track makes literally no difference - this is such a huge amount of work! Having the violin played for real makes such a big difference too. Will definitely be listening to this a bunch!

Okay... so I just left completely to another world, and it is indeed Chromatic as hell. Your entry blew my mind. Also just learned artcore was a thing so thanks! Still learning and your submission is a big target for me next time i get something done. I was literally shaking my head the whole time gosh this was insanely good! Definitely in the top picks I have! Liked, Followed, would order pizza to your house if I could xD
PS: I think you're my first total 5 stars, just insanely good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! you're very kind haha. I really enjoyed listening to yours as well

This is pretty good, love the chord hits & violin, and the fact that all we get to hear is the final song makes for an interesting process imagining the visuals and game. Speaking of the visuals, the cover art is also great!
