I think its cool how well this soundtrack matched the vibes of the games you were inspired by! This is gonna sound shady but i swear it isn't, you did something that I have not heard a lot of entries do where you wrote music that felt very complimentary to a game, where I can imagine it being gently played in the background of a dialogue scene and not overpowering it, which I think is a really good skill to have especially when you contrast it for the more intense musically demanding sequences like a battle. Very strong execution, you clearly have a good understanding of how to approach this genre!

Thank you! This means a lot.

Oh my god this is so freaking beautiful! This is straight up my alley. Even just a couple tracks in, I could tell this is going to be one of my favorites from the contest. I'm obsessed with JRPG OSTs and yours hits all the right places. I can feel the FF inspirations (I get some FF13 vibes from it, which is my favorite ost!), and some of the more delicate tracks reminded me of Octopath Traveller as well.  You made wonderful orchestration choices and the textures you used were simply gorgeous. The good production was like the cherry on top of some already beautiful compositions. I can't believe you made all this in 4 days! Super fantastic work, and thank you for the pleasure of listening!

Developer

I appreciate this so much! I'm glad my music reached the right audience and was able to move you to feel this strongly about it. That's all I can ever hope for when I compose a piece.

Amazing work! I can't believe you made this in four days!!  (@^0^)

Developer

Appreciate it!

I haven't given out many 5-star ratings lately because I believe that 5-star submissions need to be almost perfect. If I give 5 stars, it's because I think that OST has the potential to be among the top 20, and I believe yours has that potential. It's an OST that I liked from the very first notes, and I can clearly see the inspiration from Zelda.

It sounds good, it’s well-written. It’s clear that you know how to write for an orchestra, you know how to orchestrate, and you have a solid musical foundation but also, and most importantly, good taste. The timbral choices are spot on, and the use of spatial effects (reverb and delay) is very beautiful, creating a perfect mix between orchestral and ambient. Even the underlying textures enrich everything and make a difference! Well done, chapeau.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the kind words. It means a lot to read this.

Welp, I found another for my top 10! This whole thing is gorgeous in sound and orchestration, and your battle theme is the kind of quality and feel I strive for in my own music, but I always end up going in a different direction and missing the mark completely lol.

You, however, absolutely nailed it. Definitely gives me old school RPG, Square Enix vibes.

Extremely well done my friend!

Thank you!

Nice job! I love the old school JRPG sound of the tracks, but with your own twist. My favorite is Faith, it is a perfect track for an exploration theme, it gave me some Nier Automata vibes, very good job!

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the kind words. You are spot on with the inspiration I had for Faith. I took inspiration from the field theme in Nier Automata.

Stunning soundtrack. I can see where your inspiration came from. Nice job!

Developer

I appreciate it!

Really nice, nothing to say for the composition, fantastic work, its sounds great too, only thing I could say is the snare in Prove Yourself is too bright imo, thats it. Great work !

Developer

I appreciate it. A couple of folks have had a similar opinion about the snare so I'm looking into better snares I can use for the battle theme and will definitely change that during the remixing process before I release the OST on streaming platforms.

Some very pretty and beautifully composed music!

I love the area of JRPG soundtracks you've been inspired by and you've really grabbed the essence of it whilst making it your own.

Especially impressive for 4 days, would have assumed you had the entire time period to work on this.

Developer

I appreciate it. Yeah, I would've took time off if I remembered to in order to flesh out the soundtrack more but that's just how it is sometimes.

This sound track is beyond awesome! Great orchestrion here. Love the flute and all the different instruments you used. You were able to blend them so well. Great work. Not only that, all of the songs fit nicely together and have a great cohesiveness about them. I liked that first song and Ren's theme best. Those flute parts were something special though! Good work, amazing really.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the kind words! Ren is the one I had the most fun making, especially the part where it plays the notes ascending before reaching the end of the track.

Submitted(+1)

"Ren" is my favourite track but all the submission has a great energy and the ambiences are varied and interesting! Maybe some instrument would have needed a little more reverb to be less "dry".

Developer(+1)

Appreciate the kind words and feedback man!

Great entry! Such a peaceful good orchestral arrangement, love it! Need litle bit of volume fixes, but overall sounds very good =)

Developer(+1)

I appreciate it man. if you don't mind taking the time, can you let me know which pieces need volume fixes? It would really help when I start remixing these pieces to get ready to release on streaming platforms. I really want to make these songs as perfect as I can get them to be!

001 - maybe bit to much high frequencies in violins
002 - triangle may be little bit quieter
004 - adding a little automatisation for string section, especially in first half of the track will add more life to them
005 - piano bit too loud all time
006 - shaker in fast parts almost exactly in your face, maybe place it more further. Snare bit too sharp and loud to. Some equalization will help or layering with other more full sounding snare
007 - lead violin instrument that starts at 0:34 too agressive, lacking proper note start and end, like in your other violin in these track
These are main distracting moments, that ear picks up

Developer(+1)

I appreciate this so much man!

Lovely music, well composed. The production value here is incredible! One can easily say you really care about details!

Really high quality soundtrack. Very ambient, but still interesting enough to actively listen too. Everything sounds balanced and consistent, and it is all paced well. I ended up giving the entire thing a second listen while I did some work because it sounded so peaceful.

Developer(+1)

Ambient is what I was going for so I'm glad that got across musically. Thanks for the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

Highly evocative soundtrack! Beautiful sonority and truly consistent along the tracks. Every aspect of the composition is in the right place.

Amazing work rikuwru!

Developer

Thanks!

Very high quality sounds/instruments and I really enjoy your style! I like the emotional compositions, their dynamics and the instrument choice for every part, but the more dramatic tracks are great aswell! I could see this soundtrack being in an official game for sure! :)

Developer

I appreciate the kind words!

High quality work, definitely. You definitely got the JRPG feeling right. The whole OST is very peaceful; my favorite track was Suijin, you can just sit back and relax. Nice work!

Developer

Thanks!

Funny, the list of titles you listed as being similar could easily use several of these tracks of yours and I wouldn't notice the difference. Major kudos for being to really lock into the arrangements of those games and create your own unique ones. Orchestration throughout is gorgeous and arranged so well. I really like how you've handled leading tones and instruments - when they're present, they're breathing in the mix and thriving, but when driving without a definitive lead, the supporting accompaniment really rises to the occasion.

My favorites, which were hard to pick, are Suijin and Tragedy's Edge. As a whole though this album is fantastic and is tightly representative of a JPRG soundtrack. I wish you the best, I could see this vying for the top spot. Phenomenal work.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! Those game franchises have been the core for the musical ear and style I have so saying that you can hear them in those games without batting an eye is so flattering. Tragedy's Edge is my favorite as well alongside Fatal Beauty.

Submitted(+1)

Just a lovely soundtrack! It really reminds me of the area of Zora’s domain from the Zelda games, which I guess is pretty fitting since the game is called tides of fate! I love myself a good JRPG, too, so that made this soundtrack an extra-special treat to my ears, as chocolate cake is to my mouth :) Amazing composition, tone, and story, and an all in all amazing OST!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I love me some chocolate cake too lol.
