  • I like very much what you are doing with some of the sounds-- the lead on "Floating in the In Between" has a wonderfully soothing quality and an interesting envelope that I found quite interesting. Great work on keeping the piano accompaniment dynamic and evolving, which held my interest throughout. I did feel like the lead here was competing a bit with the accompaniment from a volume perspective, but not by a lot, probably mostly due to the fact that it has such a quick die-off. I liked the dialogue between the piano and the lead quite a bit. I think there might be some opportunities to add more rubato sections to the music and let the tempo be a bit more flexible. You've written really nice, smooth lines that I think would be greatly elevated by a bit more expression-- that ever elusive quality of "breathing" that can be difficult to find, but very much worth it win the end. Overall I think the biggest thing here is that I'd like to hear more! What you've written sounds great, but I think it feels like it is cut short too soon, and I'd like to hear your stretch your musical talents a bit more. This is a fantastic start, however, and what is here strikes me as wonderfully composed and produced, begging for more!

How does it fit the theme?
Aquavescence: Worlds Apart Together

GENRE: Top Down Adventure/Puzzle Game (similar to Oneshot)

For as long as she can remember, Aya has day-dreamed herself in a world of water and wonder. Now, she has woken up in this realm of imagination, with no recollection of how she got there. Control Aya as she traverses Aquavescence to find a way back home.

Aquavescence would be similar to Oneshot, a top down adventure and puzzle game.

The game revolves around traversing a dream world of water to find your way home. The soundtrack focuses on setting a feeling of both wonder and an underlying dread of not finding your way back.

Floating in the In Between would be an overworld theme for a more mysterious area in the world. I focused on using instruments to invoke wonder and water, with lots of reverb to create a dreamy vibe.

Respite would be the theme for a save/rest area. A simple track that also utilizes sounds that capture a water feel. The slight offset of the piano melody makes the song feel more childlike.

So relaxing omg, couldnt help but just sit back in my chair and before i knew it it was done! I really like how you utilized space, specifically taking time pulling away the strings, helping the moments when they come in be even more effective. You instrumentation was really fun, and i really just wish you had more lol, but alas we can only do so much in 9 days. Excited to see what else you make in the future!

Appreciate the comment! I've been very unlucky with the timing of these jams, hopefully the next one I have more free time lol

I don't have too much to say, I just really really love dreamy songs like the ones you made, nice job :)

"Floating in The in Between" has a really nice jazzy feel to it. The use of odd time signatures is great and really gives the feeling that the track is floating. "Respite" is also really well done. Its simple, but that works in its favour and gives it a very calming feeling which is perfect for its purpose. The piano melody offset is such a subtle detail, but works wonders for the overall feel of the track. Great job!

Very pretty pair of tracks.

Definitely fits the theme very well.

Great instrumentation, melody & harmony, especially on Floating In The In Between, love the little synth that plays in the transition between sections too as well as the contrast between them. Really strong bassline too.

Thank you for listening!

Very fitting instrument choices aswell as melody and harmony. Only thing I'd recommend is experimenting a bit more with the dynamics. Keep up the good work! :)

Developer

Noted on the dynamics, appreciate the comment!

Im in love with the piano on Floating in the In Between. Really fits the theme well - great job!

Developer

Thanks a bunch!

Really nice harmony I enjoyed that! Perhaps a bit more work on dynamics so it's not all notes at the same volume could be a nice experiment to humanize the whole track a bit more and also almost give a Wave sense to the whole bass line, like doing really every bar at the start and end lower than the middle, but it's really a minor nitpick/idea. Good job!

Developer(+1)

I'll make sure to focus on more dynamic, well, dynamics next time. Thanks for the listen!

Nice taste!

Beautiful color palette that you achieved with harmony in combination with the instrumentation. So on point. Especially in Floating in the In Between.

Well done!

Really nice work! As a bass player i really enjoyed the bass line you wrote in floating  in the between simple but super effective. i would have liked to see some small bass fills throughout the song to make the bass line a little less repetitive. But overall I really enjoyed this submission! Really nice work!

Developer

Yeah, I definitely see room for a more interesting bass part. Thanks for the feedback!

Beautiful tracks. As soon as that descending bell came in on Floating In The In Between, I got instant Pokemon Black and White vibes. Good work!

It reminds me delightfully of Aivi & Surasshu’s work in Steven Universe, only jazzier in some points. Great vibes!

Developer

Thanks!

Very dreamy with some thic sunglases on (for the coolness factor). I feel like that could be a jam the Zora from Majora's Mask would have played. I really like your choice of instruments and Synths (expacialy the DX7). Also having a 7/4 meter seems somewhat rare. So cudose for the good work.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words. Sunglasses and odd time signatures make everything better.

Chill and ambient tracks working fine!

Floating in the between got some really cute and dreamy vibe.

Beautiful harmony progression ;)

Something about underwater and bass lines just go well together, and you totally nailed it in Floating in the In Between. That track feels very dreamy and underwater. Respite also does it well. Nice work!

Developer

I wholly agree with the water power of bass lines, I knew I had to whip out the Ample Bass J for this one. Thanks!

Pleasant-listening! Floating in the In Between has a lot of interesting things going on; from the departure of standard time signatures and the choice of instrumentation. Low-key reminds me of something that you'd hear on a 16-bit console in the best way possible. Immersive and evolving.

Respite gives me retro RPG vibes. It has a kind of stillness to it; a quiet passage of time in a comfortable space.

These are both really solid. Good work!

Developer

Thank you!
