It's almost the witching hour. Soon the land will become enveloped in shadow and be dangerous to traverse. All witches have ascended into the sky with their brooms. All witches except you, who still hasn't been able to fly. The other witches decided to aid you, by dropping wood for your cauldron from the sky. All that's left for you is use what ingredients you come by and try to survive the Witching Hour.
Can you find all ~25 potions?

What a fun game! Very cool concept!
Thank you!
Fun little game with a nice gameplay loop, I enjoyed it :> Although after minute 3 its almost only fending off enemies and not searching for new ingredients. I was going to say that the throw just doesn't work sometimes but halfway through my last attempt I realized that it always aims in the direction of the cursor lmao. The attack however felt slightly off for me for 2 reasons.
Firstly because there is no diagonal attack even though you can move in 2 directions at once which meant that i often approached an enemy from a diagonal then missed because the character only hits in front of them. Secondly, sometimes, especially when attacking in quick succession, the character doesn't turn around if you change directions. For example if i attack down then try quickly attacking up the character does move upwards but they still attack in the same direction as before.
Other than that a short description of what the poition you just got does would be cool imo. Anyways cool game!
Thank you sm for the feedback!
Cute artstyle! Simple, yet very addictive gameplay loop once you get the potion combos rolling. Lovely game!
Thank you!
Had 2 runs.
1st (12 minutes) - No idea that I was aiming with the mouse, so I had to come to the cauldron from the left side (always), got few early potions like the cat (1st one)
Game felt fine
2nd (6 minutes) - Just placed the mouse on the cauldron (so I always threw towards it), but this time getting upgrades was so hard, it was not dropping at all, only timber and timber - that run was short
Few issues I had:
- Randomness - it just killed my 2nd run, could not get any ingredients, if you could add some kind of treshold for killed enemies that will 100% drop an ingredient after killing 10 enemies for example, or a special enemy that spawns every 15 seconds and always drops ingredient (there are few ways to balance it and I am sure you can figure it out)
- Mouse - Had to read the comment to learn that you aim with it and also if you aim your throw with it why not the attack?
- Attack - 8 directional attack is a must (at least that is what I feel like) if enemies can move diagonaly why can't I attack diagonaly?
- Upgrade description - If I see the potion I run to it and insta grab it, no time to read before (missed it most of the time). So maybe instead of adding description on collision you could add a description floating above the cauldron after picking the potion up?
Overall very easy to understand gameloop, but also fun in its simplicity.
Solid game that fits the theme perfectly!
Thank you for the feedback, i've been working on fixing a lot of these issues in my post jam update, thank you sm for playing the game!
I loved your game Gr0n! I also ran into the thing where i didn't know that objects were thrown with mouse aiming, so i was under the complete delusion that ingredients had to be thrown from the right side and wood had to be thrown from the left side (and even thought to myself 'hey, that's kind of cool').
Your game is pretty, sounds satisfying, and i loved how the darkness mechanic works and feels - It truly made me a little claustrophobic as more enemies started surrounding me and i couldn't even see how many i was facing until i suffered a slow death. Before that happened, though, i loved the fact that i got better at killing multiple enemies at once with my amazing broom AOE. Congratulations!
the pixel art is nice, and I enjoyed the audio design. there was a surprising amount potions + points for including cats. I felt like the monsters were a bit easy to kill and would require you to basically be overrun to lose however the variation between the monsters provided some diversity which was good. good job!
Thank you for playing!
This is a cute survival game! The pixelart is nice, the music is good (sound effects a bit too loud and harsh). The enemies should be way faster tho, because it felt so nice moving around (like the perfect speed), but the enemies were too slow 'witch' made it too easy!
Nice style and excecution
I had quite a lot of fun playing this one! I was surprised by the amount of potions and combinations that you can make. The gimmick of the ingredients only showing up in the dark made it very interesting, since I had to think of strategies that could help me into keeping the light alive whilst also letting there be enough darkness at times to get more stuff for potions.
The artstyle is simple but effective and the music choice was fitting! I really enjoyed the sound effects and thought they added a lot to the game!
One of the only things that somewhat bothered me is that certain potions didn't seem worth getting twice, like the Sweeping Broom one, since it seems to only work once and then doesn't seem to have any noticeable effects, though I'd assume time constraints probably factored in this. Other than that, trying to find ways to survive for longer periods of time gave me great enjoyment.
I do also believe that, by the introduction of the 3rd enemy, there's a certain difficulty spike, since a lot of them start showing up at once. But it is still doable, of course.
T wast very much excit'ment playing this game and I quite did enjoy mine own timeth with! Really fun game!
Nice survival game, really wish the attack was either a little bigger or easier to control but overall a great game
Nice little endless survival game, and a bullet hell game in disguise! The visuals are nice, controls are responsive, the game is surprisingly fun and addictive too!
My only bit of issues is that I never knew exactly what potion does what, and what ingredient results in what potion, leading me to throwing what was available at that time, and hope the potion is good. But to be fair, when the game progresses you don't really get time to think that much amongst the bullet hell chaos, so I guess that's a non-issue after all.
Also, maybe adding arrow keys for movement as well? Given that all controls are on the left hand side, my hand are getting a bit tired after each play though.
Anyway, this is an extremely enjoyable game! Well done!
Thank you for the feedback! Controls can be rebinded in the options.
Nice game, I stood up for 8:44 before getting eaten alive by the shadows. The cat helper is nice, the menu music is also good, and I like that you have to craft potion and not only defend the pot!
I would like a little longer range in attack as when you try to hit the shadows fast, I always get hit first, and if you are not close enough you miss.
Anyways GG!
I quite like the visuals and audio, and the gameplay loop feels fun too.
It’s not really obvious at the beginning that you can throw items instead of bringing them to the cauldron. Some sort of an indicator on character, like an arrow pointing towards mouse, could help with that.
I’ll also add a bit on controls comments. A good idea is to make a sort of spatial separation for controls. For example, you use mouse to aim where you throw items, so it’s a good idea to also use mouse for controls. That will also make it near impossible to mix up throw and attack inputs because they use different hands.
I noticed that you have HP only on the very end on my first run. I kinda think it’s not needed because cauldron timer already serves that function. So any “damage” can be dealt to that timer.
Overall, it’s a fun little game.
thank you for the feedback!
A really nice and simple game.
The controls are probably the biggest issue to be honest. I wish the character attacked in the same direction as I was aiming. It feels counter-intuitive to have me aim to throw stuff but not aim with the mouse to attack. So having to line myself up with the keyboard to attack while aiming to throw stuff with the mouse was kinda a pain in the ***.
Other than that I had a great time playing the game. The premise was cool running around throwing ingredients back to the pot felt awesome and I loved the constant struggle of keeping the flame lit while fending off the little "Thing" hands that would dim the flame.
The art and audio were good too and other than the previously mentioned issue the controls were fine and I had no bugs/issues to speak of :)
Good game I like it especially how well it ran in the browser. The downfall was your sound as its a bit crackling and distorted sounding. If you fix that I am sure the game will be even better and I am happy to see the game was not forcing the player into a Fullscreen view unlike most Webgl games on here.
this game is super fun. Many games of this style are overly easy or overly hard, but you managed to strike a good balance. I made it to about 6:15. Once the stronger enemies started showing up it was over for me.
I felt like I did not know what the potions were doing, or how exactly to make them other than just throwing lots of ingredients into the pot. But I assume they were good and I liked making them :D
Thank you sm for the review. I am planning to make a post jam update, so if you like you can check it out once its in its polished state :D
This is really addicting and fun, the movement is mercifully fast and fluid. I had a little trouble sweeping the enemies, but that's my own fault. It was very satisfying to play, thanks for sharing it with me!
A fun little game with great art and music. I did enjoy the game but after 2 minutes I got bored 😅 Can't say its a bad or boring game but probably not for my taste. I don't have any criticism because the game is really well executed.
A cool mix between a survivor-like and a base defender. The combo works surprisingly well, giving you a purpose along with the addictive nature of survivor-likes. You are definitely onto something. I made it up to 12 minutes, but then a speed potion ended up being my doom, as I couldn't get through the mob horde without colliding with them anymore, haha. I would have liked to use a different key than "E" for attacks. You don't really need to use the mouse, as you just throw everything towards the pot anyway, so your second hand can be put to better use coordinating the attacks. Cheers!
Thanks for the review, as for the key, the options have key mappings that allow you to change your control.
Good to know! I completely missed that. It didn't even cross my mind that there might be key bindings in a game jam entry.
yeah this game is good
i'd say it's a yeah/10
I had fun, but I wish I could tell which ingredients I had put in the pot so I don't make the same potion twice. Overall, I couldn't find enough timber or ingredients to keep making potions. I got to almost 4 minutes and at about 3 minutes, the timber was dropping too slowly to even keep the fire alive without any shadow hands touching it. Seems like some of these potions do really cool things, I wish I could have made more of them.
