Game's Take on the Theme
The player has mastery of a technique known as the forbidden spin, which they can use by pressing the Z button. It is an essential mechanic to complete the game.
Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
I made all of the character art, however most of the UI were free assets, I did not create music or sounds.
If not, please link to any asset packs or resources used here.

Loan sharks being actual sharks will never not be funny to me.
This game has a nice retro essence. It feels like we're starting a game on our GameBoy rather than a submission for a JAM. The aesthetic is really well mastered, I think your goal was to create a game that resembles the old ones we used to play in our youth?
Regarding the mechanics, I liked it. I just wish that when you pass over an enemy while turning, there was more feedback. Also, the controls are a bit slow, and several times the attack or movement didn’t respond. However, this doesn’t make the game unplayable.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with it, and also, is it just me, or when I hit an enemy, does it make some sort of "SIUUUU" like CR7??? xD
Interesting game! The dialogues are well implemented and the story is funny. The art is great and the music is a bop! :)
I also have some criticism, that I hope will be useful:
The controls were a bit strange, for example, when pressing two directions at the same time, instead of going diagonal or just changing direction, the character would stop, and this can result frustrating during a bossfight where you have to move to dodge attacks. Also I found the stopping delay of the melee and spin attacks a bit too long. This could make the game pretty strategic on where to position yourself to find the best spot to attack and run away, tho I don't know if it was intended. Also, going over the scroll and clicking on it to begin felt a bit counter intuitive, I think making a "interact" prompt or picking it up automatically would be better.
The bosses, I feel they are pretty random, for example the attacks aren't well telegraphed, I often got hit multiple times by hits that I couldn't dodge or didn't know that were coming, which felt unfair.
The moveset of the character is varied, but I would've appreciated if the spin would've been elaborated more, for now I feel it's just an attack like any other, but also pretty risky sometimes, as a projectile could spawn on you as the spin is ending.
I sometimes was also unable to use all the extra mechanics, I guess it's linked to the bar in the bottom left, and if it is I feel like this makes the extra moves even more risky, and that mechanic wasn't really explained.
Thank you for this detailed review! I will definitely use this to improve the game.
Color palette is good!! Thanks for doing this
Fun game! Creative and funny dialogue and story, I like it
Pretty fun. I kinda wish it was more centered around the "forbidden spin" attack, the basic melee one is a bit boring.
Neat game with a retro aesthetic. Art, music, SFX all complemented each other nicely.
The progression system is really cool too. I liked how you worked each new ability/powerup to the fight you had just completed. Bosses all felt unique and had some character to them.
For improvements, controls are a bit weird. Something like WASD to move, left click attack, right click spin, space jump attack, Shift or F for teleport attack would make more sense imo.
Well done for submitting in the timeframe!
Thanks for these control suggestions! I've tried these and they feel so much smoother!
Nice little game! The visual style is very pleasant, and the music is beautiful. The theme is implemented in a fun way. The bosses are cool, but the final one absolutely wrecked me! Great job!
great implementation, nice work!
I had the same problem with the scroll hahaha! It was fun, I had trouble against the final boss because those shurikens stunlocked me to death a lot, then in an attempt I got lucky and defeated him. Nice job!
fun game with cool and simplistic art style. could see this being expanded upon further to be even greater! i did have some issues on the movement for controls when hitting multiple directions on the arrow keys the player just stops altogether but otherwise gameplay felt fun and challenging!
Same with the scroll here :) music is great! and sfx are quite nice (battle noises), darn monk was too strong at first. WIsh I had more HP. Oh, and some more controls, so I could move Left and Down at the same time or more smoothly
I also checked your previous games here. Great designs!
couldnt continue the game until I read it in the comments that I had to click on the scroll, I would love for this game to have a diagonal movement. loved the music and the concept of the game as the assassins are hunting you down.
Same problem with the scroll as people here! haha
And this may be my thing, but I'll love moving diagonally. Many times I pressed two directions to try a diagonal and just stopped the movement completely.
Other than than, nice job! it was fun!
Cool concept, the controls need some tweaking, and at the start didn't realize I had to click the scroll, but yeah some good ideas like the setting :)
I like the mid eastern/ persian music. Also love the assassins as boss as a concept. I think the controls are taking a bit of time to register. But still fun tho.
Fun game! I think the control need some work tho. For example, your character should be able to move diagonally if you hold 2 arrow key like up left, up right, etc.
They need a star system for writing and narrative because I feel like this game has a lot of personality! I have a weird feeling about the combat. It feels stiff and some stuff definitely needs some polish but it feels very open ended and chaotic, I had alot of fun playing it.
The best part has to be the boss intro and how each upgrade has a narrative connection instead of a just +1 Damage. Overall its a fun experience!
Lots of contents and the boss design is pretty cool. I like the slimes especially. The dialogue is fun too.
There could be some polish up on the animations. But overall this is quite a enjoyable game and the spin attack also fits the theme. Great job!
The art is really nice, as is the dialog! The controls seem very unresponsive for an action game, I would make the wind-up a lot shorter and the hitbox bigger for the attack. Also I think I found a bug, where if you stand at the location where the boss comes on screen, you immediately get damaged when the dialog finishes.
Anyways, nice job and I look forward to seeing what you do in the future :)
