Game's Take on the Theme
The theme this year was "Spin" So we decided to make our game and bosses construction-themed with the tools being bosses that would spin on a construction site.

Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
Yes

I saw the game's picture and I knew I had to try this hahaha, a really quirky game, In the good sense! It was pretty hard at the beginning and I frustrated a bit with the first boss, but it was a good experience overall, great job! :D

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! I wanted the thumbnail to be extremely wacky looking so people would be enticed to play!

Submitted(+2)

Aside from the very hard first boss (as many other comments have suggested), I think this is a pretty neat game.!

The only other thing I would add is that with only 4hp, I'd want to see some impact to know I'm being hit (sound effect, screen shake, frame freeze, vfx, etc)

Developer(+1)

Well, there is a player ouch sound effect, but I am still new to sound effects so I probably didn't make it loud enough. The other ideas are great too! Thank you for playing our game!

Solid submission! Mechanics are simple and compliment the boss fights pretty well. Got kinda thrown off having to use J and L to shoot, but i eventually got the hand of it. However, I found the first boss to be very tough. It's hard to keep track of the amount of objects flying around the stage at fast speeds, plus during his second attack you physically cannot jump over him when he's touching the floor. But I still got some fun out of this while playing. Good job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing our game! And yes the first boss was definitely too luck based. We will have better playtesting next Game Jam :D

Submitted(+2)

Excellent work! Love the unique way the player moves in comparison to most platformers, I was thrown off at first but found it very complementary to the boss design. Really enjoyed the quirky music that goes along with the overall feeling of the game. Cool to have boss designs that integrate the theme.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun making the music :D

Submitted(+2)

The first boss is objectively too hard. Four wheels moving completely independently and also constantly is way too many variables to keep track of.

Developer(+1)

We didn't have much time to test for difficulty at the end, but thank you for your feedback!

Developer(+1)

That is understandable... but thank you for playing our game!

Submitted(+2)

Simple and fun! I really enjoyed the game. Adding a simple mechanic to better control jump height could be great. And for me, the controls felt pretty neat.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+2)

Nice game i liked the art style

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!

Submitted(+2)

pretty fun game, the visual are nice other than the lack of skybox and the music’s also really nice. other than that the only real issue was the aiming system, but i’ve seen a few other entries have the same way of aiming so i guess it’s just my own preference (or a skill issue)

Developer(+2)

I get it, this is common criticism we have heard about our game and we are going to do better next time we make something of this genre. Thank you so much for playing our game :D

Submitted(+2)

Nice charming game. Would prefer if you could attack using mouse. Still pretty cool.

Developer(+3)

Oh! Like you throw where you aim? That is a good idea if thats what you mean and I could tell the lead developer about that! Thank you for playing our game :D

Graphics were nice, could've added animations. Ripjaw just suddenly plunged and I got really surprised as healing after beating a boss wasn't added. Honestly a fun enough game. What lib did you use? sdl, ray? My windows resolution also got lowered, should probably work on that

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing our game! I am just the music and SFX guy so I don't know anything about Pygame, but I told the lead dev that you left this comment and hopefully he will be able to respond to your questions!

Hello. Assistant Developer here to comment on library usage.

Revolvum was made using Pygame-ce, which is a fork of Pygame (a Python library used for the development of multimedia applications such as video games).

From my understanding, Pygame indirectly utilizes SDL in the sense that it is essentially a Python wrapper of SDL. However, Ray was not used. As far as I know, Ray is more commonly used for parallel computing or Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning applications as opposed to a standard game loop as in the case of Revolvum.

Thank you for your comment, I hope this clears some things up.

P.S.: The resolution issue you mentioned will be investigated and addressed in future Ghastly Games releases.

I like the audience to clap and cheer me after i manage to get the hammer. :-) Good job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I thought it would be silly so I made a little sound effect for the target hit with a funny sample that the 2017 internet would love lol.

Submitted(+2)

I like the bosses design and attacks. Personally, I would prefer if you can control the height of your jump (long hold to jump higher). Over all, I had fun.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game! Yea, thats understandable and would be good for the screw boss fight so I will let the lead developer know!

Submitted(+2)

The movement feels great, it was a lot of fun :)

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing!

Haha, this game has such a goofy charm! (^_^) I had an absolute blast playing it, though I almost smashed my PC twice during the final boss (゚Д゚)!The way you’ve used the theme is super unique and way better than what I came up with. Honestly, fantastic job! 👏🎮 It’s clear you put a lot of effort into it, and it really shows. Great game, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next! :D

Feel free to check out mine as well! I’d love to hear your thoughts and get some feedback. (。•̀ᴗ•́。)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I almost broke my keyboard over the first boss personally because of my pitiful skill issue lol. I'll be sure to check out your game too! :D

I just had to play the game with that cover art.

And it was actually pretty fun. The controls feel really good, especially the jump. Dodging is fun.

As MaoriG already mentioned the throwing system could have been executed a bit better. But overall pretty nice.

Only thing I am not a fan of besides that is upscaling the pixelart.

Good job :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I also agree about the game's resolution and the pixels not being where they need to be. I will talk to the developer about this for future projects!

Submitted(+2)

It's a really fun game. A lot better than some that have received a lot of atention. I woul'd have made the throwing system diferent, but it's really cool.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I will let the lead dev know your thoughts!

A straightforward boss rush game! For me, I felt like the washer boss was by far the hardest one. I could never dodge any of the smaller washers that bounced around, and it took me around 12 tries to beat it. The ripjaw boss was in the middle, and it required me to die several times to understand its attack pattern. The screw boss was the easiest one in my opinion. Other players who play the game might just quit after a few tries fighting the washer boss because they cannot dodge the smaller washers, and many players may not even play the game in the first place because you have to download an exe file. If you manage to get past the washer boss though, it's quite a nice game. My favorite music track is probably the screw boss' one.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! The washer balance change was made nearing the end of development and we didn't have enough playtesting for balancing... This will be fixed in our future releases though! If you want to hear any of the music in full quality, check out the soundcloud! It is on the game's page or you can use this link!

Quite the interesting take on the bosses! The art is simple but has a charm!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing!

Only windows? Would've loved a web build of the game.

Developer(+2)

Yeah... I don't know much about the development since I make the music, but I will talk to the lead developer and see what he thinks about web builds!

Submitted(+2)

A cleanly executed little game!  Controls are generally responsive, although it took a little to get used to the force of the dash.  The bosses' attacks tend to have a range of actual risk to them, but this also gives you some more chances to hit the boss if you can read the attack well enough.  And you're a blue collar worker, like Mario,

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing our game! I will let the rest of the Ghastly Games' dev team know you left a comment :D
